She's lying. Whatever lies in her past, it is clearly atypical for the average student, and atypical most often translates into intriguing. Why does she want to hide it from me still? Divided along bloodlines? Is she half-blooded then? Likely, but she has to mean more than that.
His eyebrow arched at her final words. Now she really had him interested. Clearly however she was sincere in her desire to not elaborate at this time. Zee let it go at that, contenting himself with her unspoken but clearly implied promise that she would tell him eventually, just not under such public conditions. He found he was already eagerly anticipating their next dark meeting atop the Astronomy tower.
Zee's eyes welcomed Wysteria's as he let a few seconds of silence slip by. It seemed she was through with the topic of their families and he himself was more than ready to move on. When she had expressed her sympathy and given her advice concerning his own family, he had merely nodded, a small appreciative smile on his face.
"Wysteria, I want to know you, but not through any form of force. Please don't ever feel obligated to tell me anything."
Yes indeed, it was time to put all these unpleasant thoughts out of his mind. Enough with D'rorah and her injured lover. Enough with his parents and the unthinkably bad condition of his relationship with them. This was a night to be enjoyed. A night he had promised Wysteria she would not soon forget. He meant to deliver.
Taking a step back away from her and facing her fully, Zee dropped into an impeccable formal bow. Rising and again gazing directly into her eyes, he allowed a slight trace of shame to enter his voice.
"Ms. Edwin, I believe I owe you a rather titanic apology."

Wysteria was glad Zee wasn't trying to push the subject of her heritage. After all, she was used to him asking and saying things which often got information out of her she might not wanted to have revealed. She could feel the urge to tell him rising up within her, almost getting on the tip of her tongue. But she knew that once she let him in a little bit, that she would most likely reveal everything at some point. She wasn't sure why she thought this, but it was more of an intuition that once she opened her mouth it wasn't going to close. She found herself wanting to meet him again in the Tower, just to talk to him alone. What was going on? She shook her head a bit, trying to shed the silly girlish thought from her head.
When he went into a bow, however, Wyst had to raise her eyebrows. He owed her an apology...for what exactly? Surely this was part of some plan he had already worked out for that evening. She had the feeling he would be the type of guy to make a plan to ensure everything went the way he wanted it to go. He wouldn't allow for mistakes.
"Oh dear...what have you done now?" Wyst asked, a playful smirk going across her mouth.

Noting her smirk, Zee was ever so slightly disappointed that he wouldn't be able to surprise her. And yet at the same time he found he enjoyed the thought that she understood him well enough to know that he was likely merely setting up something he'd already carefully laid out. He wanted her to know him as much as he desired to know her, and yet he was as of yet free from the stress of telling her too much because he did not even consider it at all plausible that he would reveal his true dark side to her. That would bring only pain on both ends.
She may have been onto him, but that certainly didn't mean he was going to drop the facade. His face (what could be seen of it anyway) and voice remained quite serious, almost solemn throughout his speech.
"I've recently realized I've been incredibly selfish. In all the time we've spent together, all the opportunities I've had so late at night with the light just perfect, not once have I ever told you. I always assumed that it was information you already possessed, for how could you possibly not know? Always I have kept the thought to myself and never expressed to you how extraordinarily beautiful you are. And now on this night I choose to speak, when no words in my considerable repertoire could come close to capturing the dazzling perfection that you have achieved. Yes, I have grievously wronged you and I must beg your forgiveness."
Zee bowed once more, even lower this time and looking quite humble. When he finally straightened his countenance remained stoic, except for one subtle wink he tossed her way.

Wysteria was expecting more witty banter, maybe a comment addressing his own attire in a joking manner. Something to the effect of: I'm so sorry for being the best dressed at the ball Wysteria, I know how much females like to outshine their companions. Needless to say, she was quite surprised by what actually came out of Zane's mouth. Her jaw dropped open for a few moments. She closed at once when she realized it was open, which was near the end of Zee's speech.
Wysteria had been called pretty before, most girls are told so at some point in their life. But this was different. This wasn't her aunt or friendly stranger complimenting her hair. Zee's words made her stomach feel queasy and empty, her hands were clammy, and her face felt a bit hot. By all accounts I might be coming down with the flu, she thought wildly while attempting to compose a response in her head. Irritating boy...actually did what he set out to do
"Hm...you really do want to see me blush," Wysteria said, feeling an unmistakable warm feeling in her cheeks. "Although I wish I could return the favor." A devilish smile came to her lips as she leaned closer to him. "What would make you blush, Mister Bishop?" She raised an eyebrow at him, thoroughly enjoying the flirting that she was still trying to learn on the fly. She was hoping to get some sort of flinch from his now stoic appearance.

The smile that came to Zee's face at his date's reaction was broad, toothy, and uncommonly sincere. Much like when she had made him laugh up in the tower, he truly hadn't expected this result. He hadn't actually been trying to make her blush. The simple truth was he'd realized he'd never told her how beautiful he'd always thought she was and thought he'd best remedy the situation. As she'd expected some arrogant joke about his own extravagance, he had prepared himself for some sarcastic denial of the fact once he'd stated it. Instead her face had flushed ever so slightly. It almost seemed otherworldly how even the blush could just barely tint her pale skin. Zee didn't think twice about this however, figuring she simply hadn't been that embarrassed by the declaration she no doubt was already aware of.
An eyebrow arched invisibly behind his mask as she leaned it, the diabolical grin curling her lips temptingly. Zee's own smile grew crooked as he similarly leaned slightly closer.
Not yet. It's not right yet. Just wait. The moment will come. Or it won't, but regardless, just wait.
"Really Wysteria, with all you know of me do you truly suppose there's aught you could do to make me blush? On the one hand I hesitate to say this as you may devote your own resourcefulness to accomplishing the task, but as I'm rather confident there's nothing you would do that could induce such a reaction, I feel safe enough in making the challenge."
Returning to a straight posture, Zee took a final sip of his butterbeer and set the empty goblet back on the table, where it vanished and was replaced by a sparkling clean one, grouped back with the other unused glasses.

Wysteria was amused and annoyed with Zane's response. He was being intentionally argumentative. Almost as if he was challenging her to prove him wrong...which she knew was entirely possible. Or he was just dispensing more of his self-centered oratory. Either one was a very real possibility. But keeping up with the playful mood that had just been established, Wysteria decided that the former was the more likely to be true. And just as she decided that, he finished his speech with saying he felt confident in "making the challenge". She smirked a bit, happy with herself that she had been correct in her assumptions. But still...even with every move she predicted, there was a tiny voice inside her that said there was something more he was keeping from her. Although this was not uncommon for her to feel, since most people she talked with regularly now made secrecy a common practice. But since she had the pricklings of some sort of deeper feelings taking root, she was more unsettled by the tiny voice's insistent warning.
Wysteria leaned in close to Zane's ear and whispered, "I accept," then drew back quickly, raised an eyebrow. "Although I think in order to make you blush some element of surprise must be involved, so to take on the task now would be..alas, pointless," she said, smirking. "Maybe I could surprise you at night?" Wysteria did not look at him when she said this, enjoying the unnecessary secrecy that went with the nocturnal rendez-vous in the Tower.

Again the arching of his brow was hidden by the mask, but Zee's amused grin was quite apparent. Wysteria had in the past implied things seemingly unintentionally and Zee wondered if she was now aware of how suggestive she was being. As well as he was getting to know her he really couldn't say. He somewhat doubted it but was by no means certain. He could worry about that when next they met atop the tower however. For now they were at a dance, and so he felt that logically, they should dance. She may however be resistant if he merely asked . . . Maintaining his grin, Zee extended his right hand to her as if for a handshake. " Agreed then. At night. Good luck my dear. You'll certainly need it." As she took his hand he bent into what at first seemed to be a formal bow. Much like he had the night of their first meeting, he turned his wrist under hers and touched his lips to the back of her hand, laying there a soft kiss. Straightening, he took a step backward onto the dance floor, tugging lightly on her hand, letting his movement and expression communicate his intent. Come Wysteria, distract me . . . please . . .[OOC Sorry about the godmoddage. Just scream and yell and throw things at me if you want me to change it. Or PM me. Your call. ]
