Caity looked up as others started to come forward to join their respective sides – first Susan, then another boy she hadn’t met joined their little group. As yet no one had joined the man who had cast the spell.
Caitlin reached desperately for her wand as it was taken from her grasp, but was forced to watch in horror as it was snapped in half. Her wand! Broken! The wand that Vijay had given to her during her first magic lesson in India was broken because some idiot said she wouldn’t be needing it anymore! The glance D’rorah sent at her and Susan did not truly mollify her, but she said nothing on the matter. Now was not the time anyway.
Then something else happened that shocked her. Gat Soldier, the boy whose life she had saved a few days ago from that dragon animagus, walked calmly over and proclaimed his allegiance to this “Mage”. He was on the opposite side of the war? But that would mean they were fighting against each other! Doubting it would work but hoping nonetheless, she sent a pleading look in his direction, but before she could do any more he stepped next to one of the shadows and disappeared. Suddenly she was struck by how serious this war truly was. Having chosen her side openly like this, she would have to fight other students; people who were in the same classes and lived in the same building as her. Noticing a confused-looking boy standing in a shop door, she sympathised with him. He appeared to have no idea what was going on, and to be honest, neither did she. She had just proclaimed her allegiance for an army she knew nearly nothing about. Even as she watched, Professor Kade addressed the confused boy in the doorway – apparently he wasn’t as confused as he made out.

Though D'rorah managed to keep her shock from showing in her face as Mordred called Kerridon out from the sidelines, she was nonetheless shocked. Her eyes flicked in the direction Mordred had indicated for a brief moment as she ran through in her mind all of the conversations she had had with him and whether any of them had been information he could potentially use against the Lightfighters. She was fairly certain there had been nothing, but still...
Finally, her attention shifted to him. "Mister Paradox... Kerridon?" she asked, unable to believe it. He had seemed so much like her... nearly a kindred spirit. She stood there, hoping he might deny Mordred's words and she might be able to count him among her allies. "With these people? You believe you can count upon honor among thieves and murderers? But... your sis..." she trailed off, remembering he had mentioned a sister and recalling a conversation with Keaira... someone whose sister's name had begun with a T and she had been recently injured or killed. Certain she would be physically ill later, she pushed her emotions away for now and turned back to face Mordred.
"Perhaps he did his job well... and now you have ruined it," remarked D'rorah, her eyes on Mordred. "Now, Mister Kade, you will have to face the wrath of your Mistress. I cannot recall any tales of her kindness or mercy. Perhaps we will not need to fight after all." She smirked slightly. "Perhaps Dark Phoenix will kill her own army for us now that you have all managed to fail so miserably. If not... we will be prepared..." she trailed off, still gazing fearlessly at Mordred and those around him.

Kerridon caught the eye of one of the girls standing next to D'rorah, and he could have sworn he saw pity in her eyes. Pity? Why? He had never met her before, never even seen her except for a few fleeting glances while walking in the Hogwarts corridors. Why did she feel sorry for him?
"Mr. Paradox, are you going to stand there like a fool or come over. The Mage asked me to bring you back, she fears you failed your mission a while ago," Mordred adressed him. Kerridon was surprised to realise he was disappointed - he had almost enjoyed his time at Hogwarts, with the free time for research and interaction with other students, infrequent as that might have been. Now there was no chance of a quiet time at Hogwarts. The lightfighters would all know about his allegiance, unless he could persuade his mistress to somehow return to his original task. It was unlikely and would be difficult, but maybe if he tried hard enough... He did not believe he had failed in his task so far, in fact, D'rorah had even began to think about trusting him, he was sure! He turned his head at her words, knowing she would be the hardest person to get around. Sensing her shock, he did not gloat as he knew some would have done at successfully fooling her. "With these people? You believe you can count upon honor among thieves and murderers? But... your sis..."
He met her gaze unflinching, an idea already forming in his head. "I serve the Mage," he said cooly, walking slowly to where Mordred was standing. The mention of his sister had struck a chord but he ignored it, purposely keeping his face emotionless. "And who said anything about honour?"

Post by Dylan Cooper on Dec 31, 2007 22:41:42 GMT -5
Requiring rather a break from life, Dylan had taken to sitting upon a hill in Hogsmeade, away from the throng of shoppers and turmoil of Hogwarts. Gazing at the peaceful sky, he contemplated life, love, and a great many other things. His thoughtful status changed quite quickly, however, as a great skull and phoenix shot into the sky. The image reminded him forcibly of the Dark Mark depictions he had viewed in several textbooks; ‘Great Battles of the 20th Century’ came to mind almost instantly. This particular image was different, however, and he could only assume it was a reference to Dark Phoenix. She could at least come up with something original, instead of stealing Voldemort’s idea.
Pushing himself up from his grassy hillside seat, he only got a few metres before he saw the bright beam of light rise into the air in contest. Threading his way through the many wizards and witches going in the opposite direction and toward their homes or the homes of friends, he also saw many people duck into the Hog’s Head and Madam Puddifoot’s, seemingly just attempting to find temporary sanctuaries while this standoff took place. Winding his way down the crowded street of attempted escapees, he finally came to the edge of a sort of non-descript circle that had been made around all those specifically involved in this battle. Noting several people on the side opposite to him, he knew that that was not where he wanted to be.
In the blink of an eye, he had seen a boy disappear from over there. Being too far away to really see, he had no comprehension of who it might have been, so the remaining occupants of that side of the ring quite confused him. The boy he recognised as a fellow Ravenclaw, someone he saw in the common room and in classes; the older man he didn’t recognise at all. He did, however, by no means fail to notice the shadows on either side of them. His eyes narrowing towards the Ravenclaw, he stepped up beside who he knew to be his own side.
Instantly identifying D’rorah at the forefront, he also quickly picked up on Susan and, not much to his surprise, Caitlin. He had assumed she had merely been a friendly student, willing to do good and simply aid them in this war. Now, however, he considered the notion that perhaps she held more talents than he had previously assumed when they had met in the ballroom. After a moment or two, he recognised the Gryffindor boy he had met on his first lesson back; History of Magic. Mallan, if he wasn’t mistaken. The other boy was completely unknown to Dylan, but he was standing on their side of the fence. At the moment, that was enough.
Moving up to stand beside Dee, he eyed down their opponents. No spells were being thrown around as of yet, no Elemental magic was being tossed about; he could feel things brewing, nonetheless. Expecting and planning for nothing less than an all out battle, he hoped anyone not involved would simply shelter wherever they could, and fast. One second was all it took to start something off that perhaps none of them could come back from. He was, certainly, not one to underestimate the power of evil. Realising that the only one who might see a difference in him was Caitlin, due to the fact that he simply saw D’rorah all the time, Susan had come to visit him in the infirmary, and Mallan he had met only recently, he gave her a flicker of a smile. The only current visible difference in him was the scar running across his cheek, and, if one were to peer close enough, the large scar on the back of his head that he attributed to it coming into extremely close contact with a sidewalk at high speed.
Preparing himself for the worst, he began slowly building his energy, his eyes attempting to cease wavering from their opposition but unable to refrain from catching the swirling yellow light every now and then. Taking a deep breath, he cast a quick, meaningful glance to D’rorah and locked his eyes on Kerridon. Focusing all of his energy on gathering himself, and stirring his element into a state of anticipating action, he waited for someone to make a move. There was no point in starting a needless fight, afterall, and he himself was certainly still not one-hundred percent.

Susan watched carefully as events unfolded. Several people Susan didn't necessarily recognize remained at the scene. Susan nervously clenched and unclenched her hands, not sure what to do with herself. It was when Gat finally showed up that things seemed to really get going. He was the first to openly declare his allegiance to the Mage. Susan cursed herself for being surprised. She should have seen it coming, what with the incident in Defense class. She could help but hold on to the image of him by the Whomping Willow that one day. He had seemed . . . poetic? How bipolar.
When the Ravenclaw made himself known, Susan was dismayed to hear "Professor Kade" encourage him to call to him. It frightened Susan even more to hear D'rorah's response. The surprise was evident, but only a moment as she tried to switch things around. Susan was thankful for her quick-thinking.
Susan remained mostly still, taking everything in and doing her best to remain inconspicuous. At Dylan's arrival, Susan felt a flood of emotions. Despite the uneasiness between them since the last time she'd visited him, she was desperately glad to see him. It was good to see him, Susan realized and she felt her self strengthen in his presence. Even though her wand was in pieces on the ground, for the first time since she'd arrived in the clearing, she felt strong as the energy seemed to pulse within her.

The time had come. Anyone that was going to return with Mordred should have been here by now. They will have the Mage to answer to if they wanted to come now. Mordred motioned Mister Paradox to stand in front of a shadow, just as Gat had. The boy did as instructed and just like Gat, he was gone in a cloud of smoke. Mordred walked around by the shadows at bit, contemplating what was to come. Finally, he stopped and stared at the all the people on the opposite side.
"I almost feel sorry for you stupid kids. I've tried to tell you that you will lose... that you will die. None of you listened! So when you are laying on the ground, drawing your last breaths, don't ask for mercy." Mordred paused and looked all them, poised and ready to spring into action. They truly believe they would win.
Mordred stepped back into his ranks and looked one last time upon the group who had gathered to protect what they love and die in the end. He was just about to apparate back when he saw a figure emerge in the distance. Hoping it was another follower of the Mage, he waited.

The last few days had found Kailee all but boarded up inside her small dark office. Something had happened that was changing her. At first, she had simply thought it was a flu. Fever, sweat, tears and the passing of three straight days told her it was otherwise. The room was dark, with only spider-web thin streams of light trickling through the shutters. With the school in turmoil she had no where to turn. The last few months at Hogwarts had been trying; much more difficult than she had expected and she had struggled to find her place. Now, when things were finally starting to settle and her world was turning upside down again.
Despite the horrible feeling that was taking over her body, she readied herself for a trip to Hogsmeade. What could she possibly need? She wasn't sure even as she took off down the path across the grounds to the gate, but something was calling her. She threw up the hood of her cloak and as she stepped just beyond the boundary of the Hogwarts grounds she disapperated.
She appeared just off the high street and noticed a gaggle of her students as well as, Professor Kade?, in some kind of stand-off....
Suddenly her whole body convulsed, just for a moment and she steadied herself against the wall with one hand. With a heave she felt herself vomit in the alley. A thick, black liquid that tasted like a mixture of bubotuber pus and dirt was in a small pile on the ground. It was as if something in her had shifted. Kailee unceremoniously wiped her sleeve across her face and spit out another bit of the toxin.
Emerging from the alley, she took a stand with Dee. The part of her that was panicked about the entire situation seemed to melt away as she finally understood her place and understood why she had returned to Hogwarts. "I'm here to serve the Elemental Master of Fire," her voice was low, but stern. "The balance must be restored."

Mordred almost choked as yet another Shadow Warrior emerged. This was ridiculous! He had to get out of here, he hadn't expected so many to be present.... He didn't even know if the Mage knew of so many. Mordred didn't even bother to give them another look. "This is over.. I need to go." He said to himself. He looked to his brothers and bid them farewell. One by one they began to disappear in a cloud of smoke, until it was just Mordred standing there.
Mordred took one last look upon the place he stood, it would be burned to the ground soon and over run with Shadows and Dementors... Under the Mage's control. With a loud -pop- Mordred vanished from the scene and traveled back to the place he called home, the Shadow Realm.

Kerridon watched as more and more of the Shadow Warriors and Elemental Masters turned up. He had had no idea that so many of them were at Hogwarts! But Keaira nor Alessandro, the two he had suspected, appeared. He had a vague idea that Alessandro had been taken out of the school, but if Keaira was a shadow warrior then shouldn't she be here?
When Mordred motioned for him to do the same as Gat had done, he obeyed. With his eyes fixed on D'rorah, stepped next to the shadow and disappeared with a puff of smoke. Time to greet his mistress again, he expected. The darkness surrounded him as he entered the Shadow Realm, and Kerridon could not help but remember how much Taisy had hated it here...
