Dien raised his eyebrows as numbers appeared on the board. "Very nice," he said. He frowned as Dee spoke. "No, Miss Philosophy, just wait. You'll learn something you didn't know in this period. I'll ensure you that." He smiled devilishly and mischievously, tapping his desk with his pen. He looked up at the board and found almost all the blanks full. "Good job," he said, to more the class as a whole than to an individual. He began writing the definitions of the different numbers to the side of them.
1 This is the number of the individual, the solitary unit. Ones are independent, focused, and determined. They set a goal and stick to it. They are leaders and inventors. Ones find it difficult to work with others and don't like to take orders. They can be self-centered, egotistical, and domineering. They are often loners. 2 Two represents interaction, two-way communication, cooperation, and balance. Twos are imaginative, creative, and sweet natured. Peace, harmony, commitment, loyalty, and fairness are characteristic. But two also introduces the idea of conflict, opposing forces, and the contrasting sides of things: night and day, good and evil. Twos can be withdrawn, moody, self-conscious and indecisive. 3 Three represents the idea of completeness or wholeness, as in the threesomes past-present-future and mind-body-spirit. Three indicates talent, energy, an artistic nature, humor, and social ease. Threes are often lucky, easygoing, and highly successful, but they can also be unfocused, easily offended, and superficial. 4 Like a table that rests solidly on four legs, four indicates stability and firmness. Fours enjoy hard work. They are practical, reliable and down to earth; they prefer logic and reason to flights of fancy. They are good at organization and getting things done. Like the cycle of the four seasons, they are also predictable. They can be stubborn, suspicious, overly practical and prone to angry outbursts. The conflicts possible in "two" are doubled in four. 5 Five is the number of instability and imbalance, indicating change and uncertainty. Fives are drawn to many things at once but commit to none. They are adventurous, energetic and willing to take risks. They enjoy travel and meeting new people but may not stay in one place very long. Fives can be conceited, irresponsible, quick-tempered and impatient. 6 Six represents harmony, friendship, and family life. Sixes are loyal, reliable, and loving. They adapt easily. They do well in teaching and the arts, but are often unsuccessful in business. They are sometimes prone to gossip and complacency. 7 Perceptive, understanding, and bright, sevens enjoy hard work and challenges. They are often serious, scholarly, and interested in all things mysterious. Originality and imagination are more important than money and material possessions. Sevens can also be pessimistic, sarcastic, and insecure. 8 Eight indicates the possibility of great success in business, finance, and politics. Eights are practical, ambitious, committed, and hard working. They can also be jealous, greedy, domineering, and power-hungry. Eight is said to be the most unpredictable of numbers and can indicate the pinnacle of success or the depths of failure; the potential to go either way is present from the beginning. 9 Represents completion and achievement to the fullest degree (as it is the complete number, three, expressed three times). Nines dedicate themselves to service, often as teachers, scientists, and humanitarians. Strongly determined, they work tirelessly and are an inspiration to others. However, they can also be arrogant and conceited when things don't go their way.

Susan began copying the definitions as soon as they'd appeared on the board. She paid extra special attention to the first three as they pertained her herself. Surprisingly, they seemed about right. Even though the descriptions seemed contradicting, Susan was indeed, very independent, indecisive at times, and very easy going, not to mention the less-attractive descriptions as well. She wondered if the rest of the class' results were as accurate as hers.

Copying down all of the descriptions, instead of just his own, he soon had the full list and circled his own. He was quite put out that he only had two numbers, actually, instead of the three that most people did. He felt severely limited by this fact. Comparing the two portrayals of character, he felt that they were fairly accurate.

D'rorah's facial expression was indiscernible as Professor Serlaen denied her request. She found herself slightly annoyed that she was being forced to participate in remedial work she had covered when she had first begun taking Arithmancy in her third year at Falstaff's. She had thought a N.E.W.T. in the class would be useful when she had first requested it on her schedule, but considering the ages of her classmates, she had strong doubts as to whether she would encounter any N.E.W.T. level work in the class this year. She supposed she would simply have to attend to it in her free time, as she certainly intended to complete the Ministry's N.E.W.T. examination in the spring, as she did for all of her classes.

Katherine commenced in copying down the notes on the board. Her numbers, six, eight, and eight again.
6 Six represents harmony, friendship, and family life. Sixes are loyal, reliable, and loving. They adapt easily. They do well in teaching and the arts, but are often unsuccessful in business. They are sometimes prone to gossip and complacency.
She wasn't sure how she liked her numbers now. Their descriptions weren't very becoming. Still, she figured they must describe her at least a little. She slowly began to accept the fact that she might be a little jealous or a bit of a gossip.

Dien smiled. "Some of you may be thinking your numbers are quite accurate. Some of you may be thinking they aren't.. and then realize that they are." He smiled. There was an interesting secret... Arithmancy could work evenly with each person. A number couldn't really decide their personality- that way, it would be as if the parents decided their child's personality. The personalities made with the numbers were made to be very nonspecific. Many people could admit to being jealous, or a gossip- and many would like to know that they'd be a successful businessman. But, in reality, the numbers don't correspond accurately to the person. Although, he thought, his fit him well.

Gat had fallen asleep earlier on in the lesson. It was an instant sleep though. No dreams and no thoughts. He woke to find that most people had already completed their work. As usual, he did not know what he was doing, so he quickly jotted down the notes on the board. Arithmancy was not his best subject. Though, it was not his worst either. He walked up to the board and wrote his numbers like everyone else. He had remembered them from the last lesson.
'Character Number: 2 Heart Number: 3 Social Number: 8'
A smile appeared on his face from seeing that he had an 8. He beleived he could somewhat relate to the other numbers though. One line stuck out at him.
'Twos can be withdrawn, moody, self-conscious and indecisive.'
'Am I really like that? Wait, yeah I am.' Suddenly he was deep in thought.
Then another line stuck out at him.
'but they can also be unfocused, easily offended, and superficial.'
He was amazed at how acurate some of these were.

Ariana had no idea what to do, she didn't failed math in muggle school but she barely passed it too. She was thinking about raising her hand when Gat got up to walk over to the board and wright his numbers down like everyone else had. 'what do I do I have no idea, maybe I'll just stay after class then asked him about it' She though as she though about smack her head on the old dusty brown desk. Ariana set her will quill down and stretch before pulling out another piece of paper. She began writing a note to her uncial, after she was done she folded it and put it in her book bag. She looked up and saw that many of the people were almost done, she sighed and yawned.

Dien smiled melancholic. "If you are having any trouble, please do tell me now." he looked at Ariana specifically for a moment, then surveyed the rest of the class. The rest looked like it was coming pretty easy- he saw smirks, most likely at how accurate the information was. "Now," he said, "comes the difficult part. I'll start on this once everyone is done figuring out who they are," he said, putting an accent on the they. He was soon going to teach them the basics of strengths and weaknesses through divination of codes within numbers and their orders, including the unordered numbers themselves. He was skipping immedeately from the very basics to the N.E.W.T. level classes. He didn't really like the small stuff- it could get boring. The first year was going over all of this many times and then finding out which items and which types of people best suited them. But he was going right to the hard part- using others' numbers to your advantage.

[glow=red,2,300]"If you are having any trouble, please do tell me now."[/glow]
He saw him look at Ariana as he said this. This angered him slightly. It felt as if he was mocking Ariana for not being good at this topic. He felt strangly tied to Ariana. He glared at the Professor.
[glow=red,2,300]"Now, comes the difficult part. I'll start on this once everyone is done figuring out who they are,"[/glow] 'Just start!!' Gat thought. He was becoming slightly impatient. Except for a small few, most had finished. This frustrasted him. Gat noticed that he was angered easily. He wanted to start the more difficult stuff. He felt it would be better if the teacher told the excelling students what to do then helped the under excelling students, step-by-step.

Ariana blushed when she saw him look at her. She mouthed 'sorry' just before she raised her hand as she waited to be called on. Out of corner of her eye she saw Gat glare at the teacher. Ariana almost laughed but didn't. She looked at the bored and saw that most of the students had already put their numbers up. 'great I'm going to look like a fool asking for help, oh well' though Ariana thinking she need to study harder. She wander how much more till class was over but didn't see a clock, at lest that she could see.

Dien looked once more around the room. My, this is nice, he thought. As he noticed a bit of anger in Gat's look at him, Dien looked back to Ariana, with her hand raised like she felt like a fool. "Yes, Miss Angevin, you have a question?" he asked, and started walking backwards to the board. Oh, I so badly want to get to this part so I can actually teach these kids something important, he thought.

Alessandro had completely spaced out during the class he had entered late in. He glanced down at his paper noticing something he had apparently written, not really in his usual print/cursive handwriting. Huh? He thought as he looked down on it. He ripped it off his page and crammed it into his bag. He looked up and observed as everyone seemed to be writing things down.
Turning to the person nearest to him, he asked a quick and quiet question. "Hey...what exactly are we supposed to be doing right now? I must have spaced out..." He said biting his lip. He was normally more on top of things in class.

(Could someone post here? I mean, REALLY. It's not exactly my 'turn'. Ariana, it's your turn. It's been 10 days and you haven't asked your question. Dien's not going to be rude and say 'screw it I'm impatient', so get your hiney over here and POST!)

((Sorry about not posting. I forgot that I was posting here. THANKS Dylan for reminding about it *bows* Please don't kill me Professor Serlaen *Hides and post* ))
Ariana put her hand down before speaking, "I was wandering if you could help me with this. I don't really understand what you use to do." Ariana had a small frown on her face as she looked at the wall behind Professor Serlaen. Ariana tapped her paper as she waited for him explain it or maybe yell at her for being stupid and not asking soon for help. At that moment Ariana wanted to kill or at lest hit her self for not asking sooner. She must have like a real fool at that moment which left her feeling bad. 'Stupid feelings, GO AWAY' Ariana screamed in her head. Ariana glared at her paper wishing it would burst into flames that very moment though it didn't as normal. Ariana sighed and continued to glare at the paper.
