Smiling lightly, an ambitious look in her eyes as she observed the young girl, Phoenix ordered her beasts not to harm the girl; only to scare. Their minds weren't the largest, however, so they couldn't do much more than hover menacingly. Rolling her eyes inwardly at them, she simply focused on Tasha and her reactions. A small gasp, the raising of her wand and a few moments of what was either indecision, hesitation or something else extremely similar.
Noting the panic on her features, she held out hope and soon found that it was well justified - the Hufflepuff now had an intense look of determination. Pleased that the girl wasn't panicking completely and currently sprawled across the floor or doing something equally as useless, not to mention ridiculous, her smile widened slightly. Her choice of spell, when it finally emerged, showed a good initiative. The girl had assessed her enemy and reacted accordingly, instead of flinging the first thought towards them; something along the lines of 'Stupefy' or even, she dreaded to think, 'Expelliarmus'. The creatures did not have weapons, afterall, and she would have been terribly disappointed had that emerged from the first year's lips.
Flicking her wand to rid themselves of the dark beings as they shied away from the shimmering lights, she smiled openly at the girl. Seeing she had begun to move along the wall, she nodded once to indicate that was enough for now. The initial test had only been to gauge her reactions to surprising and dangerous situations, to see if she could hold her own and form a base of knowledge in Phoenix as to whether or not she should continue. But Tasha had performed admirably, and now that she had that little test out of the way, she could start to truly give the girl a chance to shine; or at least grow.
"Very good, Miss Thomas," she said in a contented voice, choosing to keep to the formal address in the hopes that it would resemble that of her professors at the school. "Now, perhaps it would be best for you to get some rest. It is a school night, afterall. We will continue your training another day," she said quietly, as if concerned that the girl would lose unnecessary sleep. "It was a pleasure to meet you; I will escort you back to the tree line."
