Susan was in a especially happy mood on this nice day. She had woken up this Saturday morning to a mountain homework, which she'd completely disregarded to come down to the lake. Susan had found a nice soft patch of grass by the smooth waters of the lake. She watched the squid on the other side of the lake, emerge suddenly, only to splash randomly and return below the surface and into the unknown.
For now, she was happy to just sit and enjoy her element. To anyone else, the area might have seemed still, or even boring. Susan, however, was subtlety aware of everything around her. She could feel the earth pulsing with life. She noticed the bugs in the grass and could hear the leaves on the trees. With the Earth all around her it was easy to be content and just enjoy the nature around her.
She sat in her most comfortable pair of old, ratty jeans and a random muggle logo shirt. She was missing her robe. It was presumably in her trunk somewhere in the Gryffindor dormitory, but it wasn't like she really needed it. The weather was perfect, with a slight breeze. With nothing else to do, Susan bought her hair over her left shoulder. (It had been growing rather fast lately.) She began to slowly braid her hair, attempting a fishtail.

Kylo, glancing out at the lake, looked again at the now burnt, crumbled, and soggy paper clenched in his dark hand. He came threw a few tree's, his face deep in thought, and his eyes were red, and saw a girl laying by the lake. Curious.. He thought distractedly, running a hand threw his hair and groaning. His sister had sent the letter, about his parents, and her plan. He didn't want to think about it, so he looked at the girl for a few minutes, then realizing that he was bing quite rude, looked away sharply, hoping she hadn't seem.
Gazing out at the lake, he closed his mind and opened his ears, allowing the coming sounds to come to his ears, and the wonderful colors pour into his mind. Openning his eye's he thought he might go for a swim, there was no sound under the soft, lapping waves.
He sarted to peal off this shirt, but it got stuck on his fanged necklace, and he stumbled forward, blind, and tripped over a root. Careening over a rock, he felt hisself collide with something alive. The girl.

Susan had noticed the boy as he walked and unknowing joined her by the lake. She had also noticed him staring upon noticing her, but chose to ignore the rude habit and avoided glancing in his direction. She focused her attention on her hair again, struggling with the complex pattern of a fishtail. It had been hard not to look, but Susan kept her control. Because she wasn't looking, it caught her by surprise when the boy managed to fall on top of her with her shirt half off.
She had the urge to say "ouch" even thought it didn't exactly hurt. It was mostly the element of surprise that had startled her. In stead of claiming some form of pain, she smirked at the boy in her lap and said, "Wow, strip much?" She couldn't resist. It wasn't often that cute boy stumbled into her lap and flirting was the first that came to mind.
It was obvious that he was going for a swim, but Susan teased him anyway. He looked new, she hadn't seen him around. Maybe a new friendship was in order.

Kylo, still struggling in his shirt, froze for a second, aware that he was half naked on a girls lap. Lucky for him, unless she had some supreem extray vision, his face turned beat red. But, sense she couldn't see, he managed to keep calm. Well, sort of a calm. Listening to what she said, he turned it over, making sure it was a joke, then said, in a slightly sarcastic voice so she knew he was joking, "Yes, I do it all the time," He was going to add something else funny, but, he changed his mind and shut up before he could say something moronic.
He tried to roll to the left, but bumped into her stomache. "Oops, sorry," He said, then rolled the other way, until he felt some grass. He sat up, looking in the direction he thought she was in. His hands were still over his head, and his shirt half off. BUt he had managed to get it off to a little above his eyes. He blushed, smaller this time. She was pretty, and was almost as tall as he was.
His hat, lime green and with a life is good logo, had now caught on to the necklace, and to the shirt. He was quite stuck, cought by his own cloths. He smiled at her, and his scar turned it into a quizzical grin.

"Oomph!" Susan sputtered as the boy rolled the wrong way, knocking the wind out of her. She released her hair and clutched her stomach. He managed to roll partway out of his shirt, but his necklace seemed be hindering his undressing. She marveled at how tall he was, but only for a moment. She decided the reasonable thing to do would be to help this boy.
Recovering from her previous lack of air, Susan crawled after the boy on her hands and knees. Upon reaching him, she began to carefully untangle him from his clothes.
"Hold still," she warned as she unlatched his necklace. With his necklace detached, she pulled it from his neck, taking the hat with it. The fang pendant at the end of necklace had become attached to the clasp at the back of his necklace. Susan fumbled with his hat trying to undo the damage, giving him time to untangle his shirt himself.
She tugged harder on the necklace. "I got it!" She exclaimed as she freed his necklace of his hat. When the necklace was ripped free, a small hole was left in the hat. "Oops," she muttered, quickly taking out her wand and quickly choosing a spell to repair the damage before the boy could inspect the damage.
"There," she said satisfied, she looked up to see if the boy had managed to untangle himself yet.

Kylo, after a hard struggle with hi shirt finally managed to get it off. He smiled, slightly goofy, and shook his head, flatting down his hair, which, when he was fighting with his shirt, looked more like a air-dried dog then a head of hair. Looking at her for the first time sense the recent battle, he realized he has rammed into her gut. "Uh, sorry 'bout that, I didn't hurt you, did I?" He asked, and his face flashed to a worried espression.
Looking at his hat and the necklace, he grinned sheepishly, "Thanks for..um.. helping me get this off," He said, motioning to his shirt. Then, blushing a little, started to rumble his shirt into a lopsided, wrinkly, flattened soccer ball shape. Glancing up, he saw that she had left her hair, and hoped that it wasn't ruined. He seemed adapt to falling into and over things, like he has this little invisble imp always shoving him, at mostly inconvinet times.

"It's alright," Susan said in response to the boy's apology. The jab in the stomach did hurt, she admitted to herself, but she had recovered quickly. "Here," she added as she handed the hat and necklace back to the boy. She had noticed his scar when he smiled. Though she was curious, she didn't ask about the said scar. She knew what it was like to dig up the past and it wasn't always easy. She would save that question for later. Now, Susan decided, they would deal with names.
"I'm Susan," she smiled brightly. She shook out her hair, letting the loose strands of the fishtail blend into one. It wasn't a big deal, Susan figured. She was never really good at fishtails anyway, traditional and French braids were more her forte. That was if one could even have a forte at the aspect of braiding hair. Susan focused her thoughts again on the boy in front of her. She had let her mind wander. For now, she looked eagerly at the boy, waiting for his name in return.

He smiled again in return, and it turned into the goofy, quizzical smile again, but didn't stop, he just ignored it. He was almost sure she had been hurt, and that she was probably covering it up, be decided not to press, instead turning his attention to her. He looked her in the eyes, though they tended to look more at her nose. "Mucho gusto, 'names Kylo," He said shyly.
She looked pretty with her hair down, and, he decided he was going to say it, lost his nerve, and blushed, his face lightening considerably. Okay, I'll but that in the, To Do collom. He thought sarcasticly. Then clearing his throat, and looking down at his feet, he said in a small voice, "Your hair looks..uh..nice when it's down." And he looked at her face warily, wondering what her answer was going to be.

Susan laughed recognizing the Spanish phrase produced by Kylo. She was surprised she understood it, Spanish classes were so far in her past, it almost hurt her head to try to remember the verbs and many (oh so many) vocabulary words.
"It's nice to meet you, Kylo," she smiled, speaking in plain English, trying out his name. It was a different name, unlike anything she'd heard before. She wondered briefly where he was from and what had brought him to Hogwarts, but her thoughts were interrupted by a compliment.
Then clearing his throat, and looking down at his feet, he said in a small voice, "Your hair looks..uh..nice when it's down."
"Oh!" Susan exclaimed, a light blush applying its self on her cheeks. She began to twirl her hair around her index finger, a nervous habit. "Thank you," she responded smiling shyly. The unexpected comment had caught her off guard in a nice way.

Relaxing slightly, mainly because he had said it and the fact that she didn't seem mad, she had even smiled, he started playing with a twig, bending it in the shape of a flower, a tree, a cat, and many other shapes. "Your..uh, welcome." He said shyly, still blushing a little, though it was less noticable.
Hearing her trying out his name, he smiled crookedly, "An odd name, isn't it?" He said, still playing with the twig. He looked at her again, and, noticing that she was blushing slightly too, and that she was playing with her hair, looked away again, a small grin on his face. His name had an odd color too, though hers didn't. Susan was the color of a peach, with light, yellow and pinks stripes.

Susan looked up at Kylo's mention about his own name. She thought it was funny the way he considered his own name a little odd. "Oh I like it," Susan told Kylo, trying to tell him that even if his name was "odd" it was definitely in a good way. She stopped twirling her hair and looked past Kylo just in time to see the squid splash again, this time closer. She smirked to herself at the memory of the last time she'd been swimming.
"Where does it come from?" Susan asked curiously, referring to Kylo's name. She didn't feel as bad about being nosy. He did after all bring up the subject. Susan returned to her spot of grass, sitting down, leaning back with her legs stretched out in front of her. She made room for Kylo to sit if he wanted to. She hoped he would, but didn't ask. She didn't want to seem desperate for company. Even if it was a little true.

Kylo shyly stood up and sat down beside Susan, one leg stretched out, the other knee pointed into the air. Gratefull that she didn't think his name was odd in a weird way, he smiled quizzically. Shrugging, he shook his head, smiling appoligeticly.
"I have no clue where that name comes from. Might be from some other languege, I suppose..My dad said it was another way to say 'Kyle', or he just could pronounce it right." He raised an eyebrow and gave a small laugh. He felt a little more confindent when she made room to him. At least he hadn't said anything freakish yet. "So-" He said, trying to think of what he was about to say,
"So..uh..do you come from England?" He asked, feeling he could have picked a worse subject, like, the weather.

Susan could tell that Kylo was groping for a subject to talk about and didn't feel bad at all that he had chosen heritage. At least it wasn't school, Susan thought with relief. Although they had just started, Susan was ready for a holiday. She wasn't sure what Hogwarts' policy on Halloween was, but she was already forming a costume in her mind.
"No, I'm from the Carolinas in the U.S." she said suppressing giggles. "I guess I spend enough time here though that my accent isn't as prominent as when I was little," she explained, "A few weeks back for break and I'll be back with my "y'all's," She referred to the common slang term for "you all". Thoughts of home filled her mind, she hadn't been home since the summer before last. Plane tickets were just too expensive and Floo Powder and Portkeys weren't exactly easy to explain to a family of muggles. "What about you? Where are you from?" Susan questioned, turning the tables.

He gave a laugh, soft and calming. He could sense that she hadn't been home in awhile. It wasn't really her accent, mainly because he had lived on a island somewhere out at see his whole life, it was more of her tone. To her question, he gave another small shrug, "I come from some island..It's called..well, we called it 'Sincera' but I think it's really called Panoramio, but, I'm not sure. It's in between Italy and Africa.." He motioned with his hands.
Carolina had many families, many, many people, family. You probably couldn't even list all the people in her niaborhood. Where he came from, their were several couples and around 6 families. Everyone knew each others on such a small number.

Susan found it interesting that Kylo had come from an island. Susan had never been on an island before and figured that it would be a nice place to live. Unlike the suburbs in North Carolina, there were probably a few houses here and there. Islands, Susan also remembered, were surrounded by water. She'd been to Florida, a peninsula, once on vacation and hadn't once seen the beach. She tried to remember her geography lessons about southern Europe, but couldn't recall how big or small "Sincera" or "Panoramio" might have been.
"Did you live by the beach?" Susan asked curiously. She, personally, absolutely adored the beach. It was one of her most favorite places in the world. Susan would put everything on hold for a trip to the beach. She hadn't been in a while though. Summers in the United Kingdom never got very warm like home and the beaches were rocky here. Homesickness over swept Susan in a big wave. This coming summer, she should be able to have enough muggle money to go home for break. The thought of seeing her little sister again along with her mother and father kept her going strong.
Susan shook her head a little as she realized she had been lost in her thoughts. She glanced across the lake before settling her eyes on Kylo again, curious to know if he had the same relationship with the beach as she had.
