It had been a long and dreary day for Blaire for no reason in particular. She was ready to go outside where the warm and friendly sun greeted her face. Snow had melted and it was rather warm for it to be almost December. But it wasn't too warm, Blaire was kicking herself for not remembering a jacket and being too lazy to turn back to get one.
Knowing where she was headed, but not entirely sure why, she turned and started to walk toward the lake. I wonder if I will be able to see any of the mer people, Blaire wondered. Ever since Blaire came to Hogwarts, she wanted to see the mermen and women in the lake. She was fascinated by them, and a little disappointed that they weren't as beautiful as they were in the movies.
Reaching the lake, Blaire sat down at the edge and looked around. During the warmer months you could find students sitting here studying and socializing, however, it was now studentless. "I really can't blame them."Blaire said out loud to herself thinking about the temperature.

Gilly headed towards the lake, hugging herself for warmth. She wore a bright red sweater which clashed a bit with her hair but she didn't care much. She should have worn a jacket, but it was too late now and Gilly didn't feel like going back to her dorm to fetch one.
The wind blew her hair back as she walked and, finally, the lake came into view. Gilly never hung around much at the lake - there was nothing much there for her and she wasn't particularly poetic - but she needed a break from her schoolwork and was not in the mood for the noise of the common room.
She stared curiously at Blaire when she approached. "Can't blaim who for what?" she asked curiously, slipping her hands into her jean pockets to keep them out of the cold.

Hearing a voice come from behind, Blaire jumped from surprise. She looked behind her to see where the voice came from and saw a girl about her age. "Oh, umm, I meant I don't blaim people for not being out here in this temperature." Blaire tried to explain herself, "Usually, there is all kinds of people around here studying or talking."
The girl looked a bit familiar, Blaire guessed it was from seeing her in the hallways and classrooms. Everyone looked a bit familiar, now that she thought about it. "Here, sit down," Blaire gestured to the ground beside her, "I'm Blaire by the way." Blaire hugged her arms, still cursing herself for forgetting her jacket. At least I have long sleeves. She thought.
Then a brilliant thought came to her mind, "Accio jacket!" Blaire had taken out her wand and almost yelled the words. Thank goodness for magic! She thought again as a hunter green hooded sweatshirt came zooming to her, "Not exactly the one I wanted but it will do!" She exclained happily and pulled the sweater over her.

"Smart idea," Gilly said, watching Blaire put on the sweater with envy. She debated whether or not she should try the same thing for a jacket but decided against it. She did not want to seem like she was copying Blaire and suffered the cold, instead. This made her frustrated but she pushed the thought from her mind and sat beside the Gryffindor.
"I'm Gillian," she introduced herself. "But most people call me Gilly. It's either, really." She shrugged, offering Blaire a smile. "I've seen you around in some classes, but Gryffindors don't really have very many classes with the Hufflepuffs, do they? We're paired up more with the Ravenclaws."
She paused and then continued. "I see what you mean about people studying, too." She glanced around at the nearly-deserted grounds. "I'd never have come out here myself if I hadn't been so bored and a bit tired of the noise in the common room."

"Thanks." Blaire smiled as her new acquaintance sat beside her, " Nice to meet you Gilly. And yeah, it seems like the teachers are determined to put rival houses together. Not that I don't like Slytherins, I've havn't met any yet actually. It's just the way everyone thinks that Gryffindors and Slytherins are bound to hate each other."
Blaire looked back over at the lake, still hoping that she could some how see a merperson. She was beginning to think that there was avery slim chance that it would happen. "I would have never come out here either, but I have a sort of...obession with the merpeople. Have you ever seen a merperson?" She asked looked back at Gilly and laughed at the oddness of the question.
