Every aisle of Flourish and Blotts was familiar. Something drew her to the store nearly every weekend. She typically emerged with at least one new find every time she entered. There was something about that smell of so many books together. It was dank and crisp at the same time. A myriad of stories and knowledge, old and new, coming together.
The store made her feel young, like on her first trip to Diagon Alley. With the high, looming bookcases it was easy to feel small. Times then had been simpler, easier... Or maybe just different?
Today, she found herself in a nook in the back of the store, perusing through the titles in a bin marked "discount." She ran her fingers over the dusty spines of less-than-great works by wizards who's names she did not recognize.

A girl was busy, leaning over the base of a shelf and smirking to herself. Deftly, she tied to strings together, looping them around a two books next to a shelf marked, "discount." She looked over her shoulder, making sure no one was watching the tan, tall girl that made up her frame. Her short, nut colored hair fell into her face, it's roughly cut edges tickling her nose, though she didn't dare to sneeze. Seemingly finished, she climbed a shelf with all the grace of a monkey, and leaned way over.
A bucket was perched on the end of each shelf, filled to the brim with pickled frogs and shaving cream. It was a rather odd mixture, and would smell rancid if not throuroghly washed out. The ends of the long string was tied to each pucket, and the string almost invisible among the dusty novels. If someone walked on the freshly waxed floor, consentquintly the deeds of the young girl, they would slip, trip on the wire, and them and their belongs would be drenched in the concoxtion.
Laying down flat on her thin stomache, she peeped over the end, invisible to all but those looking directly at her. Seeing someone she thought she reconized, maybe a teacher, she held her breath, bit her lip, and watched with deep intensoty, hiding a loud laugh.

After spending what seemed like hours amongst the tombs, Kailee decided to make her way to the front counter. There were other things to be bought on this trip and it couldn't all be spent mingling with the books. She gathered her things and then made her way to the front counter....
In doing so she couldn't have seen and couldn't have known the trap that had been laid. Without wartning there was a clatter and crash as buckets of some sort of rancid mixture fell from the heavens, drenching Kailee and the books she had managed to find.
She inhaled sharply in shock as the concoction had fallen, dropping the books to the ground. Kailee stood for a moment between the aisles in shock.

The girl, still perched on top of the shelves, bit her lip hard, trying not to laugh. The lady, which she supected was one of her teacher's, had fallen right into her trap. Her shoulders were shaking with silent mirth, and a few tears leaked out of her eyes because she was biting her lips so hard.
Then, a furry, reddish creature popped out from behind the girl. It had kind of short legs, and a long, otter like body. It's head was like that of cat or fox, with a very bushy tail. It let a loud squeak, and fluidedly slid over to the brim, perching on the girls shoulder. Their eyes were alight with a mischeffes glee, and each seemed to glow bright, green color. The pine martin, which it was, had given away the girl, and she decided their was not point in hiding her laughtor.
Letting out a loud, hooting peal, she leaned way over, hands on her knees, then swayed back, and by that time her laugh had turned into snickers. Putting a tan hand over her mouth, she stopped the snickering, and giggled through her fingers, her shoulders still shaking.

Kailee shook her head sending a few bits of the concoction splattering to the ground. It was only when she did this and peered up to see where the mess had come from that she identified the culprit as a Hogwarts student. Kailee took out her wand and pointed it here and there, causing the mixture to vanish, leaving no trace.
She had to smile, because i was rather funny to be hit with such slop in the middle of the bookstore. She bent down and picked up the buckets and set them on a nearby chair. Kailee decided to finally acknowledge the presence of the student. "I do believe these buckets are yours and you'll probably be needing them, should you chose to continue your mischief today." She smiled, winking.

The girl gave a low sigh. If she had done that to a few select people, AKA, Wysteria, Caitlin(who would likely slice off her head), Susan, Ally, and few others, would freak out. Cool. This teacher was cool. She hadn't given her a talk, or a detention, or even scolded her! Making her face completely serious, though she hid a smile, she reached down and delicately plucked the buckets from the ladies hand. Acnoligeing the wink, she said in a mucho serio voice, "In deed, much thanks."
The girl, with a lazy out stretch of her hand, offered it to the teacher. "Quin Woods, Miss." She said, in a very, polite, and un-Quin like voice. It held a touch of mocking, and unless you were very sensitive, it would go right over your head.

Kailee chose to ignore the facetious nature of the tone of her voice. "Pleasure to meet you Quin Woods. I'm Kailee Faye, at least, outside of the walls of the castle I am." She shook the girl's hand and noticed the creature on her shoulder.
It was rare for her to have such a casual interaction with a student, and had it been one of the obnoxious third years that had set off a large pile of dungbombs just outside her office, her reaction would not have been as calm.
"What a charming little creature you've got there...."

Quin grinned, picking Heno off of her shoulder. Heno didn't seem to enjoy being picked up, and he bit her finger with his sharp, white fangs, making Quin wince, though she smiled harder, and it became or genuinen. He scurried down her arm, and balanced on her hand, looking with intelligent eyes at the teacher, as if he had heard himself mentioned. They always comfronted each other, whether it was Heno nipping at her toes in the morning, or Quin rolling him over and pretend punching him.
They formed a odd sight, the tall, wiry girl and the red, sleek martin. Though they were the best of friends. He stood up on his back paws, looking around curiously, one beady eye fixated on a dead frog. Quin, believe it or not, had been the root of many pranks, including the one where she jumped off the tower with Caitlin, and the time she threw the water balloons, and that rather unfortunate time she placed a dead rat and a dead snake under a different teachers door. The shriek was unbelieveable, though it earned her a smart tounge and weeks worth of detetion.
"Aye," She said, her voice tinged with pride, "He's a martin. Name's Heno."

Kailee looked him over with great interest, as she had never seen such a creature, nor heard of one for that matter. She committed the form to memory and made a note to look into the subject.
"Heno? Really?"
It was interesting to watch the creature, who almost seemed to know that it was being discussed. A shopkeeping witch rounded the corner suddenly. "What is the meaning of all this?" She indicated the buckets and a bit of goop that still clung to one of the bookshelves.
Instinctively, Kailee stepped between the shopkeeper and the student. "My apologies M'am... We'll have it right in just a moment." She flicked and flourished her wand, relieving the bookshelves of their coating and vanishing the buckets.

Smiling as sweetly as an evil 4th((or 1st, no sure)) could, she said in an innocent voice, "Oh yes, your, 'Creamed Frog and 100 Other Wacky Recipe Book, spuped out this wonderful concotion." Her lie was delievered with the upmost senciery, and it was easy to guess it was a joke.
"Yes, he's a Pine Martin..you can pet his if you like, but be careful, he doesn't like everybody." It was true, he was very intelligent. He'd bite a cruel person, nibble those he loved, like Quin, and rub against those he liked. Indeed, he had hopped down and was curiously approaching the teacher's shoes. Quin pointed her finger subconiociously, and voiced, "Scurgio!" Some of the ick went away, though she wasn't very good at cleaning spells.

Quin's comment brought a smile to Kailee's face. The shopkeeper witch frowned but made her way to another aisle before Quin spoke again, detailing her pet.
"A Pine Martian... How very curious indeed. I've never heard of such a creature," she spoke in a lower voice, not wanting to cause a scene in the bookshop more that Quin's clever trick already had. She watched it circle her own feet and slowly bent down, sticking her hand out towards it slowly.
((OOC: I'll go ahead and let you post its reaction.))

Heno wandered up to her hand curiously, sniffing at it before jumping back, snarling, and then coming forward tentively, before repeating the action. He often did this with strangers, made sure the thing he was approaching wouldn't bite, or slash or grab him. Then, after seeing it was not a threat, went over and started to bite the hand, before scurrying up her outstretched arm, up and down, and then, wrapping his tial firmly around her wrist, fell back, his to front paws touching the floor, beady black eyes glint intelligently, and started to stalk to her shoe.
Quin, who had seen Heno do that before, watched warily. Once he had verturly attack Jason's shoe, ripping off the leather until the sock showed. "I'd be careful, or he'll shred those." She said absentmindedly. "Really?" She asked, still looking at Heno before turning her gaze back to the teacher's.

There was something of particular interest about this creature that Kailee couldn't put a finger on and she watched it watch her. He circled her boots with great interest. "Ah, we can't have that...." She stepped back a small step, careful not to lift her feet to high to present the creature with some kind of threat. "Do you often take him out and prank your professors on your days off, or was this a special occasion? Perhaps something else brought you into Flourish and Blotts?"

Heno flowed forward, climbing back up onto her arm, running up and down it, his little claws tickling. He examined her shirt with great interest, nibbling here, before climbing over her shoulders and perching on her head, his little black nose twitching, his eyes flicking down at her face intelligantly. Suddenly, he dove down her arm, digging into a handbag, until he resurfaced with what looked suspiciously like a block of food.
Quin gently reached forward and pried it from his small, yet strong paws. She handed it back to the teacher, a grin on her face. "Sorry 'bout that, he tends to be greedy." And she swatted him playfully on the head, and he reached up, nibbling on her outstretched fingers.
"Do you often take him out and prank your professors on your days off, or was this a special occasion? Perhaps something else brought you into Flourish and Blotts?"
Quin smiled charmingly, batting her eyelashes innocently, and said in a joking voice. "Oh, you never know who will drop in." She shrugged, and continued, "Just a whim I suppose, what are you doing here?" She asked, stroking Heno as he perched on the professors' shoulder.
