Serlaen nodded at Katherine and Ariana as they entered. Dien nodded slowly, listening in on the conversations. He closed his eyes and focused on D'rorah. Dee, I must speak to you in private after class. I'll tell my wife you may be a bit late. he said. Then he set tabs on everyone's mind so he could tell what they were thinking about this class- if they were confused, he could explain without them even informing him. He probably wouldn't need to even ask 'Any questions' on anything. He smiled. He had only recently learned to do this, and he realized that he was quite skilled in the art of telepathy. He took his legs off his desk and spun around a bit in the chair, tapping his pencil on the desk. "What's takinging them so long?" he said, mostly to himself.

D'rorah heard Ariana and Gat's conversation going on behind her. Though her face remained stonily emotionless, internally she was raging at his audacity. To think that, only as recently as a couple of weeks ago, he had spent hours carving into her flesh with the Shadow Mage's dagger, occasionally pausing to use a healing potion so that she would not bleed to death. Hah, healing potion... only it left horrible burns and blisters wherever it touched along with the scars from the lacerations. Then, satisfied that she would not succumb to blood loss, he had begun cutting into the blistered flesh again. It was only through using every bit of the self-control her father had endowed her with growing up that she was able to hold herself back from striding to the back of the room and ripping out his tongue. He had no right to casual conversation, none at all. The evidence of that lay concealed under her austere robes, away from the pitying stares of her classmates.
Her posture was rigid and tense as she sat in her seat, reading through her textbook as she waited for class to begin.
Hearing Professor Serlaen's request to speak with her whisper through her mind, she thought back without looking up. Of course, Professor Serlaen, as she continued with her reading.
(ooc: you know, I think some of the students who've registered have since been removed from active status. I would recommend starting the lecture now... if they post in later, we'll just say they were here the whole time... or say they were late, whatever. But... let's go ahead and get this ball rolling.)

Dien looked around. "So, I guess Mister Haunting, Miss O'Connell, and Mister Darko are skipping for some reason today. We shall start with the lesson!" Dien quickly got up out of his chair. He quickly made another chart on the board "This class has a lot of charts, no?" he said, as he wrote one through nine on the top row, then A-I on the next, then J-R on the next, and lastly S-Z on the last- and the last space was left blank. "Now..." he said, "Take all of the letters from your first and last name, and add them up according to this chart. Then, write them under the 'C' column of your name on," he pointed over tho the first chart he had drawn, "This one." He sighed, and began to write on the second chart he had drawn- the meanings for the numbers, and what they meant in respect to the three types of number.

Ariana frowned not really Under standing what to do. She taped her quill agents her paper for a few mins. She wander weather she should raise her hand and ask for help or just sit there thinking about it. She decided it would be best to asked him after class about it. She knew she was going to fail this class which was something she didn't wait to do. She thought about it more before getting it a bit.
(Not sure if this is how its done but hey at lest I tried LOL)
Ariana Wrote her First and last name at the top of the paper then a A-I, J-R,S-Z. She then added how many of Each letter was in her name then put it next to the Letter like this -

Listening intently to Professor Serlean, he titled the page with 'Revision' and used his wand, pointing it at his parchment and muttering a few choice words. Susan did her best to take in everything that the professor said as quick and efficiently as possible. She drew a chart on to her paper and began counting the letters in her name. S-1 U-3 S-1 A-1 N-5 M-4 A-1 T-2 T-2 H-8 E-5 W-5 S-1 Susan quickly did the math in the margin of her paper resulting in the sum of 39. She filled in her chart as Professor Serlaen had said to. Susan frowned at the number. It was very odd. Not odd as in funny, but odd as in well, not even. Although it was divisible by three, Susan did not like the number three either. She much rather would have preferred a number like forty. Forty was a good even number, divisible by 2, 5, and 10. But it wasn't as if Susan could choose what her character number was, she realized. With that realization, Susan accepted her number 39 and waited for further instructions. (ooc: how do you guys get the charts to work?)

Slightly annoyed to have to go back through such a rudimentary lesson, D'rorah quickly sketched out a chart and entered in her own numbers. She had done this in the last class and had used Arithmancy before, so felt no need to redo her calculations. Putting quill to parchment, she filled in her numbers and decided to ignore the rest of the class while Professor Serlaen yet again explained figuring character, heart, and social numbers. Katherine followed the instructions as best she could and began to count out her numbers. She was slightly flustered at how long her name was, but got over it quickly. K-2, A-1, T-2, H-8, E-5, R-9, I-9, N-5, E-5, F-6, R-9, O-6, S-1, T-2 She quickly jotted down the chart, filling it out as she went. She had to pause for a moment as she figured out the Character number. In no time, she had used her mental math skills to find it as 69. She looked up, waiting patiently for the next set of instructions. She found this whole subject truly interesting.

Dien looked around the room. He smiled a sort of half-smile, and spoke. "If your number is above 9, add up the digits. If that is still above nine, repeat. Come up and write them on the board, please." He sat down at his desk, and began rubbing his temples. "Next, you'll do pretty much the same thing, but... the Heart number is all your vowels, the Social number is all of your consonants. Add them up, write your answers on the board. We'll move on to what we are teaching today after everyone's finished." He gazed up at the ceiling. He pointed his wand up, and color began spreading across the ceiling. It curled and twisted, and the word 'Arithmancy' appeared in large letters on the top. He furrowed his brow and closed his eyes. After a few seconds, his hand drifted towards where his right lung would be. He coughed. "Go on."

D'rorah exhaled slightly and brandished her own wand. With a brief flick of her wrist and a few twirls, her name appeared on the board in chalk followed by her numbers. Without sparing a second thought for the request, she returned her attention back to her own reading. She was relieved to hear that there would be a lesson today, but considering how little her classmates seemed to know about Arithmancy, she didn't hold out much hope that it would be new material for her. Having had years of arithmancy classes at Falstaff's, she was finding this review irritatingly elementary.

Recalling the information Professor Serlean gave them, he followed the instructions. Adding 5 and 6, he found 11, and adding 1 and 1, he got 2. Finally having a single number, he deleted the '56' with his hand and replaced it with a '2' in the first table under the C column. Calculating his heart and social numbers, he added up the consonants and vowels in his name, then repeated the rest of the process. Heart - A - 1, O - 6, O - 6, E - 5 = 18 1 + 8 = 9 Social - D - 4, Y - 7, L - 3, N - 5, C - 3, P - 7, R - 9 = 38 3 + 8 = 11 1 + 1 = 2

Finally ending up with a completed table, Dylan looked to the board to try and remember what his numbers meant. While he was an intelligent student, and good at this subject, his memory seemed to draw numerous blanks throughout his Arithmancy classes of the previous four years. Flicking his wand, his three numbers appeared in the row that was titled with his name on the board.

Susan listened to the Professor's next directions. She was secretly happy that she did not have to keep that horrible 39. She continued on her math: 3 + 9 = 12 1 + 2 = 3 Susan then followed the rest of the directions for the vowels and consonants. For vowels, Susan received the number 10. By adding the digits, 1 and 0 she got 1. Then doing the same for the consonants she got 29. After adding the digits 2 and 9, she recieved, 11 and then 2. She filled out her chart as told, and patiently waited to be told what these mysterious numbers meant. Name | Character | Heart | Social | Susan Matthews | 3 | 2 | 1 |
Susan liked that her numbers were in descending order starting with three and ending in one. She wondered if that would be any consolation in determining what her numbers meant.

He flew down the halls from the Owlery to the second floor. "Damn damn damn...." He cursed silently as he approached the classroom door. He prayed that Professor Serlaen wouldn't be too cross with him as he rapped on the door, and pushed it forward gently, then slipping into the room.
"Terribly sorry, P-professor...I was...held up...." He managed to get out as he quickly found a seat somewhere near the back, an action that was particularly unlike Alessandro to do,as he usually took a front row seat in every class.

Katherine listened to the instructions carefully and continued with her math. Six and nine was fifteen. . . one and five was six. Katherine replaced her sixty-nine with a six and continued on with her vowels. Her first number was twenty-six. After the math, she was left with eight. Then lastly, her consonants ended with forty-four which made an eight. Katherine added the numbers to her chart on her parchment, then replaced the blanks on the front board with her information with a flick of her wand. They are often loners. 8 - Eight indicates the possibility of great success in business, finance, and politics. Eights are practical, ambitious, committed, and hard working. They can also be jealous, greedy, domineering, and power-hungry. She wondered if she might have a chance to work on her numeric curse-breaking skills, as her professor at Falstaff's had had his advanced students do. Or if maybe she would receive a number chart to decipher while the others were mired in the rudimentary aspects of the class. Deciding that she would simply have to take her education into her own hands, rather than idly waiting around for someone to pick up on her boredom, she raised her hand. "Professor Serlean, do you have a number chart I might decipher? Or perhaps a curse I could practice breaking?" she asked quietly. After all, one could always use time to practice such things, in her opinion.
