Bryan smiled at Susan when she realized her small misunderstanding. Bryan had only meant to tease her a little bit on it and she had took in stride with a playful reply. He took a drink from his cup, becoming aware as Susan's attention changed from the people dancing to one direction. Swallowing, he brought down his hand and placed the now empty cup down on the table. His gaze met the scene of two figures approaching them. One of the figures was not unknown to Bryan, as he quickly recognized D'rorah. The boy with her Bryan knew only by sight. He had seen the boy around the school in the last five years had attended, but he had never actually met the boy or had caused to.
However, it was apparent that both D'rorah and her escort knew Susan and she them as the boy greeted her cheerfully and complimenting her before he turned his attention to Bryan, introducing himself as Dylan. Bryan reached out to shake the offered hand as Susan performed the introductions. "Hey," [/color] he greeted Dylan before he heard Susan then proceeded to introduce him to D'rorah. He couldn't help the small grin that had spread over his lips. However, before Bryan could say anything about already know D'rorah, the Ravenclaw was already speaking and indicating as much. D'rorah's words only gave Bryan a moment paused, as their connection quickly clarified any confusion he might have felt if his brain had not been working as quickly. There was only one way that D'rorah was his partner so it was plain that Susan and Dylan were another set of Elemental Master and Shadow Warrior. Suddenly, his mind turned back to the walk that he had taken with Susan around the lake, when the daffodils had seemed to come out of no where. Earth,[/color] he thought, picturing those flowers in his mind for a moment. It made sense now. Bryan's thoughts did not linger long on the revelation before he was speaking in response to D'rorah's statement. "Now what were the chances of that..."[/color] he mused with a smile. He didn't really want to know the chances but was merely musing on the weird coincident that it had in fact happened. It had happened before Bryan had even became aware of the light fighters, having met Susan before he met D'rorah. It was strange in a way how some things in life worked out. He smiled to D'rorah before his eyes looked at both Dylan and Susan to see how they took the connection the Ravenclaw had brought up.[/size][/blockquote]

Susan glanced in D’rorah’s direction suddenly as she claimed she had already met Bryan. Her smile waned some as it was replaced with a look of confusion. She looked between the both of them seeing the smiles on each of their faces and failing to understand until D’rorah sent her riddle of a response in her direction. She had tried to imagine all of the different ways they could have already met. Of course there were classes and the in between hobbies here and there, but D’rorah’s little clue did the trick. Realization dawned on her instantly as she recognized the secret behind her phrase, for she had to be speaking of Dylan and Susan as Elemental Master and Shadow Warrior. “Oh,” Susan said softly looking to Bryan and seeing him for the first time as the Elemental Master of Wind.
She stood still for a moment, wondering if Bryan had been aware of their similar status as lightfighters. He’d probably figured it out by now, Susan thought, remembering her daffodil incident; she was obviously affiliated with Earth. With this newly acquired information, Susan wasn’t quite sure what to do with herself. She fiddled anxiously with her hair, before deciding that it was no big deal. Susan found her smile returning involuntarily. Hearing Bryan’s astonishment, Susan added to his statement, “Really.” It truly was a coincident that of all the people enrolled in Hogwarts at the moment that they should happen to become friends.
“So,” Susan moved on, sending an inquisitive look to D’rorah and Dylan, “How’s your night going?” Looking at the pair in front of her it was easy to see that they were clearly having a good time, but Susan thought she would ask anyway. Conversationally, Susan recognized the fact that the four of them could hardly continue on their previous subject in any way beyond metaphors in the environment that they were situated. Though the music from the dance floor still reverberated through to the refreshment table, and the other attendees were currently preoccupied with their own affairs, it would always be safer to save such conversations for later.

Smiling in reply to her reciprocated comment on his appearance for the night, Dylan couldn't help but allow his smile to broaden as Susan admired D'rorah, too. His eyes shone brightly as he sent a small, admiring glance of his own toward his date. Nodding respectively to Bryan as his closest friend did the customary introductions, his attention flicked back to Susan as she replied to his question.
His eyebrows raising slightly as D'rorah mentioned that her and Bryan had met, he shrugged it off briefly before his attention was drawn by her next comment. Catching the glance he received from Dee, his eyes widened in pleasant surprise and a small grin fixed itself onto his features. "Well, well, it is very nice to meet you, Bryan," he said happily, a small hint of thankfulness behind his words. As he understood it, this Gryffindor was currently the reason that he could keep his hand at D'rorah's back; that he could talk to her in their usual fashion and enjoy things like the Valentines Ball with her - and he assumed that his previous assumption was indeed correct. The most notable bond between himself and Susan, afterall, was that of Elemental Master and Shadow Warrior.
Smiling brightly at Bryan's next comment, his eyes diverted back to the other Gryffindor as she questioned him and D'rorah. "Our night is..." he began, deflecting a look to Dee, a small, joyous smile on his features. "Perfect," he concluded, his hand making its presence more well known on her waist as he ran his thumb lightly over the fabric a few times. "How's yours going so far?" he replied conversationally, his body lightly picking up the beat of the current, relatively fast-paced song.

[pink]"Now what were the chances of that..."[/pink]
D'rorah smiled slightly at Bryan's question. "[blue]Far better than one would first assume, it seems,[/blue]" she replied, a hint of humor in her voice. The ease with which Lightfighters seemed to find each other in this particular generation had intrigued her for some time. She wondered if there were something specific drawing them all together or if they merely found each other through the traditional channels of common interest. She suspected some sort of outside interference in bringing together pairs of Shadow Warriors and Elemental Masters of like Elements, and wondered if perhaps the same force accounted for the coming together of those of different Elements.
She simultaneously watched Susan's reaction, several moments of uncertainty showing in her face and actions before she seemingly decided there was nothing untoward in the development of this latest twist.
Dylan, of course, was more than pleased to finally meet Bryan. She knew they both owed quite a debt of gratitude to the fact that D'rorah had been able to finally join with an Elemental Master and regain her emotions. The thanks were apparent in his words and in his eyes, as she glanced at him from the corner of her eyes, pleased with his reaction. Some might take a notion to be jealous if their girlfriends were to share a profound mental connection with another member of the opposite sex. Dylan, however, seemed to be taking it all rather in stride, as he had always done.
“So,” Susan moved on, sending an inquisitive look to D’rorah and Dylan, “How’s your night going?”
"Our night is..." he began, deflecting a look to Dee, a small, joyous smile on his features. "Perfect,"
D'rorah smiled in return, a serene and happy smile--not something she allowed to grace her features often while in public. However, this particular occasion seemed to warrant such a reaction. "[blue]Indeed, it has been a remarkably perfect night,[/blue]" she agreed. She could feel Dylan's hand tighten slightly at her waist, thumb absently perusing the fabric that flowed from bodice to skirt on her dress.
"How's yours going so far?"
D'rorah was distracted by the motion Dylan had taken on in the response to the beat of the music. She attmpted to concentrate on Bryan's and Susan's answer, but found the slight shuffling motion mixed with the beat of the music too much to disregard. "[blue]Perhaps another dance?[/blue]" she suggested, turning her head to regard Dylan. She could feel him moving along slightly with the beat of the music as though his feet were attempting to compel him to dance. She much preferred more traditional dances, but moving to the beat of one music for her was much like moving to the beat of another. Besides, this wasn't the sort of music that was exclusive to dancing as couples, D'rorah could make out several clusters of students who had taken to dancing together for this particular song. Perhaps they could all take the floor together for a bit.

Bryan watched the reactions between the other two. Their reactions were different but in the end were similar. Where Susan at first seemed to be confused and then unsure how to take this new development, she soon took it in with happiness. While Dylan had quickly grasped the meaning the other Ravenclaw had implied and seemed happy to make Bryan's acquaintance. A smile touched the Gryffindor's lips at the other boy's statement. The undertone of thanks did not go unnoticed by the Gryffindor.
"Likewise," [/color] Bryan replied with a smile and inclination of his head, accepting the under tone of thanks, though Bryan did not think he really deserved it. He had only happened to be in the right spot at the right time with the right qualifications. His elemental masterness could easily had been transferred to someone else instead of himself. It was only a matter of chance that it had been him and he and D'rorah had met. However, he was also aware that he also had a choice in everything that had happened. He could easily had rejected everything the Ravenclaw girl had told him, but he knew there was no way he would have done so. Bryan could not have lived with himself if he had turned his back on this. His attention turned to Susan when she asked the pair how their night was going. Bryan's smile remained in place when they answered. He could see the happiness that was flowing around the two Ravenclaws. It made his decision to help all the more worthwhile, to know that it was not only D'rorah he had helped, but that there was someone who was also tied to her and happy to have her whole and in one piece. His attention turned to Dylan when the boy had asked how their night had been going. "I have to say it's better than sitting along the wall drawing like I was going to do,"[/color] he stated, grinning at Susan for a moment. It was not a stretch of the imagination that Bryan really would have spent the entire ball just cornered up with his sketch book. His eyes switched to D'rorah when she made the offer for another dance. Bryan noticed then that many of them, and other students, seemed to be unconsciously moving to the beat of the music. It was strange how music could have such control over a group of people as the beat mixed within one's blood, urging them to move in rhythm to the beat. "You up for another go?"[/color] he asked Susan, turning his head to look at her. He asked considering the only reason they had left previously was re-hydrate and take a break. Bryan was up for another around on the dance floor.[/size][/blockquote]

Hearing both Dylan and D’rorah agree that tonight was indeed perfect, Susan allowed her smile to subtly broaden. She couldn’t help but admire the bliss shared between them. The effusive happiness obviously coming from the pair, and even more so involuntarily through her bond with Dylan, set her on a sort of high. She couldn’t have frowned if she tried. Catching the Ravenclaw’s returned inquiry, Susan heard Bryan make the reply before she could. Seeing his grin, she giggled lightly, remembering where she had found him at the beginning of the night. From what she knew of Bryan thus far, his statement was probably true.
“Yes,” Susan added looking to Dylan and D’rorah first before turning to Bryan and continuing honestly, “I’m glad I decided to come down.” It was true, the fun she had found tonight was greater than any she might have acquired up in the Gryffindor common room. Dressing up, dancing, and enjoying a chill night with friends beat out drafting letters to home or left over homework any night, especially this one.
Her attention was drawn to D’rorah as she suggested they return to the dance floor. At the mention of another dance, Susan glanced out to the dance floor they had only recently left. The catchy booming music made it nearly impossible not to join the crowd. When Bryan asked if she cared to return to dancing, the obvious answer would be an affirmative one. Seeing as they were all properly hydrated once more and subconsciously eager to return to the sport of which the event was designed, Susan replied, smiling at Bryan, “Definitely.” Initiating the return to the floor, Susan lightly took hold of Bryan’s closest arm to lead them back to where they had come. After sending Dylan and D’rorah a look as if asking them to follow, she found her way to a comfortable spot amongst their fellow students, where the music enveloped them all.

His eyes flicking across her features as she smiled, knowing that she was the most beautiful woman he would ever have the pleasure to see, Dylan felt a small, deep-seated happiness that lit up his eyes. If all went well throughout this war and beyond, he would be exceptionally overjoyed to call her his own; he could do so now, of course, but further down the track he fully intended to make it official. He guessed the ring on her finger was testament to that fact.
As D'rorah responded to Susan's question in kind, he felt the pull of the music ever-more. Producing a bright smile and small laugh at the responses given by the two Gryffindors, his eyebrows raised slightly in reaction to his girlfriend's query. "A dance would be good," he said, having only moved to the table to refresh himself briefly. He was just as glad to have seen his Shadow Warrior tonight, though, and he was happy to see her enjoying herself apparently almost as much as he himself was.
As Bryan questioned the same of Susan and she responded eagerly, he smiled in turn to his own date and took her hand in his, following closely after his fellow fifth year. As they emerged into a crowd and formed their own little group, he twirled D'rorah slightly to begin with, a small twinkle in his eyes. Soon moving in time to the beat of the music along with the others, he found himself enjoying this night increasingly more, as if nothing could ever go wrong. In his world of course, it always could; but that did not mean he would waste his time and energy worrying over it. What would happen would still happen no matter how much he attempted to panic over it - for now, he would enjoy the company he held and the deliriously good music.

D'rorah caught the slight lift of Dylan's eyebrows at her invitation to dance, likely a showing of pleasat surprise. He would be well aware that this wasn't exactly the sort of music she typically listened to. Susan and Bryan, likewise, seemed ready to move back out onto the floor. They seemed to be having a very nice night together, leading her to wonder if all of the Shadow Warriors and Elemental Masters would eventually pair up into couples. It made sense in a way, a fellow Lightfighter would be someone safe to open up to... no need for secrecy, which was so destructive in any sort of relationship. Of course, given the recent deaths of several Lightfighters, it was also dangerous from an emotional point of view. There were many trade-offs... one the possibility of losing a boyfriend or girlfriend to the Mage... but that was balanced by the likelihood that more interconnectedness within the group would make them stronger as a whole and increase their communication. They just couldn't let anyone else be killed... which meant that training needed to begin happening on a much heightened level. Heretofore she had been rather lax in making the others train, only taking time with those who sought her out. It had been important to allow them to settle into their new abilities without too much upheaval at the start. From here on out, however, they would have to be much more diligent about making time as a whole unit for the Room of Requirement.
She found the thoughts soon pushed away as Dylan twirled her lightly on the dance floor. Deciding to give up her cold demeanor for one evening, she smiled and even laughed as she came back into him from the spin, her hands landing lightly at his shoulders. She thought she caught a few incredulous glances from schoolmates who had never seen D'rorah smile before, let alone laugh, but didn't care at the moment. For one night, she would enjoy herself.
Catching the beat of the music easily from her musical training, she was still hard pressed to find dance moves which matched the drive of the music. She was versed in many ballroom styles, but had never ventured into more popular music and dance. It was hard to abandon grace for the jerky movements she saw coming from her schoolmates. Throwing caution to the wind (so to speak) and allowing herself to simply fall into the music, she did whatever came naturally as she danced with their small group.
When the music mercifully changed, it was something a bit more to her liking. The beat was three-four... and although it was by no means a traditional waltz, it could easily be turned into one. Though, it would be very fast paced. "[blue]Lead me?[/blue]" she asked as she stepped in closer to Dylan, placing one hand at his shoulder and holding her other out to him. "[blue]I thought perhaps we might scrape a usable waltz out of this noise,[/blue]" she clarified with a smile and a slight sparkle in her grey eyes.

With her agreement to return dancing, Bryan found his arm commandeered as he was pulled back towards the dance floor. The Gryffindor did not fight Susan's hold on his arm but followed willingly. He glanced briefly over his shoulder to see D'rorah and Dylan following them. His mind caught a snippet of D'rorah's thoughts on the light fighter couples from their connection. He didn't give it much thought but felt a sliver of happiness spread through him when he felt her thoughts turn to a different score as the Ravenclaw twirled her. A smile lit his features are the Ravenclaw abandoned her reserved and just enjoyed the evening.
It was nice to see her just letting go and enjoying the evening. The Shadow wars would still be there but it was nice to see her dropping thoughts of it enjoy the fast moving music that pounded through all their veins and just enjoyed the evening in the company of friends, allies, and those she held dear. His mind turned away from the Shadow warrior, to focus on another one. His smile did not fade as he fellow into the step of the dance, moving to the music with the rest of their group.
With the outcome of the evening thus far, Bryan did not regret the choices he had made. He didn't regret joining with this group, nor coming tonight or asking Susan to be his date. However, with music guiding many of their actions and feelings it was easy to forget about almost everything in that moment that wasn't relevant to the beat of the music and the bodies moving all around them.

The force of the music impossible to resist for nearly everyone it seemed, especially for the four in their particular section of the dance floor. As the music switched genres, the couples gently drifted in their separate ways, never going too far. The bliss that filled Susan in particular was overwhelming in a way that allowed her to disregard the pressing issues of the moment. By now she’d forgotten her unpainted toes and it was of no matter that her hair was due to fall out at any moment. She couldn’t recall what essay was due on Monday or how she’d faired on her most recent exam. No thoughts on the pending war between good and bad crossed her thoughts other than thinking of the Elemental Masters and Shadow Warrior within the close proximity of their dance. Though they were related on a greater level, on this night she thought of them not as her allies, but as her friends.
It was impossible to discern exactly how long the ball had lasted or for what amount of time they all had become preoccupied on the dance floor. At last, however, as all good things must come to an end, the last dance was called, and a slow sweet song was allowed to fill the ballroom. For the last time that evening, the music mellowed down to a lovely song that epitomized the Valentine’s mood. Letting the music guide them, each of the couples around paired up, falling into step with the music. Even as she didn’t want the night to end, she was glad to think that it had been a success of a dance. With the change in music complete, Susan looked to Bryan, hoping he would want to participate in the last dance as much as she.

The music had continued through the night. Bryan would not be able to say how many songs were played or even which songs they were. His mind had not been on that detail but upon the rhythm of the music and the people around him. However, the last song ended and a new one began. The tempo for this one was much slower than the last, leading the occupants of the dance floor into one final slow dance. The ball it seemed would end on one final romantic note before sending students to their beds to dream of the night and everything that had happened to them there.
All around him, Bryan could see couples pairing off and his eyes looked to Susan, who was looking with him with an expression of hope. A smile touched the Gryffindor's lips as he offered her his hand to pull her towards him and for them to fall into the steps of the song that drifted all around them. Having spent almost the entire night with her, Bryan was not going to disappear on the last dance. He didn't want to. He wanted to dance this final dance with this girl.
The slow tempo the music drifted and swirl around all the occupants of the dance floor and the bodies moved in sway to the music. However, Bryan's mind wasn't on the music or even on the movements his feet made almost unconsciously, but rather they were on the girl he was dancing with.

The final dance of the night was notorious for making or breaking the night. From Susan’s experience, it was either the most memorable three and a half minutes of the event, or the few spent watching with envy as the others enjoyed the memorable minutes. On this night, however, Susan found herself on the better half of the two options. Without saying a word, Bryan held his hand out to her. She would have been crazy to walk away now, and it thrilled her to see that Bryan was thinking along the same lines. Matching his smile, Susan took his hand and allowed him to hold her closely as they found their niche once more.
When Susan thought about the last dance afterwards, she wouldn’t be able to think of the specifics of what went on. She couldn’t tell you where they were positioned on the floor, who they managed to nearly bump into, or even which song had been carefully chosen as the last. She could, however, tell you exactly what color Bryan’s eyes were. She could recount the comfort of which they had held each other. She could tell you the extent to which her heart had pounded the entire time.
As the song drew to an end and was skillfully faded into oblivion, a few cliques cheered an even clapped, thoroughly impressed with the night the school had provided for them. At the close of the night, the temporary decorations began to flicker and some vanished all together with the absence of the music, only further indicating the night had come to an end. Reluctant at first to leave the ball, Susan did not want to let go of the boy in front of her. Slowly, she drew her arms back to herself, distracted with the sudden rush of people toward the exit to the foyer of the school.
In the rush to the specific end of the room, the two were given a rare moment of space that they hadn’t been allowed before. While they would soon be following the student population in the head for the exit, she didn’t want to follow the hands of the ushering chaperones right away. She was able to speak on a more rational tone than earlier in the night as the music had ceased, though her ears were still ringing from the intense volumes. “I had fun,” Susan told Bryan somewhat stupidly. Though it seemed completely obvious, she could think of no other way of voicing how she’d felt about the night prior to this moment.

Glad to see her mood lift as he twirled her, he smiled softly, a happy little expression settling onto his features. As her hands settled at his shoulders, his own held her at the waist for a moment before she offered her one in order for him to lead. She stepped closer, and his eyes remained lit like a roaring fire that could never be dimmed. Smiling brightly as she clarified her intention of the dance, he nodded in a gentleman-like way, his head tilting to the side and bowing slightly as he did so.
When he raised his head once more, he raised an eyebrow with a charming smile to inquire as to whether or not she was ready before taking her hand and starting off in the fast-paced three-four that was allowed by the music. He wasn't used to dancing the waltz at this sort of pace, but he didn't take too long to fully adjust. As the song progressed, he took this glorious moment to accept just how lucky he was at this point, despite everything that had happened to him of late. Still, the negative was fading, and even now it was nowhere to be seen; a positive sign in his books.
As the song began to fade, it was changed into what was clearly a song for the couples. Having eyes for only one tonight, his own sought out hers and seriously threatened to get lost in that glorious grey. He slowed from his previous dance and kept a small, soft smile at his lips as he wrapped one hand around her waist and pulled her closer. His other hand detached itself from hers and moved likewise to her waist, settling comfortably as his smile slowly grew more pronounced.

The song was coming towards its finished. Bryan could somehow sense this, although his mind was far from focused on the music and the situation around them. His mind was more comfortably engaged on the girl in his arms. However, somehow the last notes of the song slipped their way into his mind, telling him it was time to cease this action. Already couples were pulling apart, but Bryan was reluctant to let the end, and if his hands lingered in their place with Susan was only marginally noticeable and probably only to Susan. However, the boy forced him to drop his own hands to his sides a few moments after Susan as had detached herself and stepped back.
The sound of voices will the cavity that had once been filled with music. It could almost marvel the level of loudness the music had been. With people moving off the dance floor and towards the exit, a sort of bubble of space formed around the two Gryffindors, leaving the space they had been lacking during the night of dancing. Bryan's gaze had wavered to the exit, his mind saying it was time to leave. His mind had also forgotten completely about the other couple that they had been with.
Instead, it turned back to Susan, as she spoke. A smile touched his lips. And without really any thought in the action, Bryan leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on her cheek. The action had surprised himself, the feeling of his lips touching her cheek and almost seemed to spark in his mind, but he somehow calmly pulled back and spoke. "I did too," [/color] he said, "Thanks for being my date."[/color] Even as he spoke, he felt like the statement had been awkwardly spoken. "We should probably head to the common room before one of them approaches us with a fiery fury for dallying,"[/color] he then stated with a grin, motioning one of the chaperons, to cover up the awkwardness he had felt previously. Only moments after Susan had uttered her summation of how she’d felt about the night, she found Bryan leaning in. Still for a moment, Susan held her breath as she felt his lips gently come into contact with her check. As he pulled away, she vaguely heard him agree and mention some sort of thanks. Though the moment had passed, Susan’s thoughts still lingered on the kiss. Stunned, Susan brought her hand to her face, allowing her fingers to lightly touch the place on her cheek where Bryan’s lips had recently left. She must have blushed, but to what extent she did not know.
“You’re welcome?” she laughed lightly noting both the sincerity and awkward nested in the thanks he had spoken. Suddenly, Susan was aware of her hand still at her face, and dropped it, bringing it to clasp the other in front of her. The awkward from the last exchange was lost as Bryan suggested they return to their common room. Looking around, it was obvious that the chaperons were ready to return to their rooms, even if the students were not. Susan couldn’t help but feel sorry for them a little; considering they had spent the entire night watching the lot of them have fun.
“Yeah,” Susan agreed, smiling too. “We should get going,” she somewhat restated as she initiated their walk out of the ballroom and up the stairs to the Gryffindor common room. Moving in the direction of the exit, Susan couldn’t help but revel in the lucky coincidence that the two of them belonged to the same house and would be walking back together, thus allowing them not to depart quite as soon others might. “Walk me to my dormitory?” Susan suggested with renewed happiness.
