After Bryan had back away after the kiss, his head had turned to look at the chaperon, causing him to miss as Susan's hand touched the place he had kissed. He was still reeling over the fact he had done it. Bryan was not really a player, but someone who went with the flow, so such actions were usually a surprise to himself as well as the other person. He had no idea what had prompted the action, aside from the fact he knew that he liked Susan, more than a friend he was willing to wager. To take his mind away from this fact he had spoken about leaving.
His gaze trailed back to Susan when she agreed with him and asked him to walk her back to her dormitory. A grin touched his lips. He wasn't oblivious to the advantage of being in the same house as his date. "It would be my pleasure," he answered her with a smile. Since Susan had not appeared to had disliked the action, or at least not had made a huge deal over it, Bryan allowed the moment to slip from his mind and just enjoyed the final moments of the night he had with her. As she moved to the exit of the room, Bryan quickly moved to follow her, falling in step with her. Their exit was probably a large relief to the chaperons of the ball, as they were one less couple to usher out of the ballroom and to their common rooms. From the corner of his eye, Bryan could see many couples who still lingered to grasp those last few whispers of a wonderful night. However, as they walked back to their common room, Bryan could not think of anything to say. He felt if he had said anything it would be redundant of comments they already made. His mind could only think to inquire if she had enjoyed herself, and she had always commented on that in an affirmative. Bryan felt himself with no other choice but to remain silent.[/blockquote]

Susan found leaving the ballroom wasn’t as depressing as it should have probably been. While she was by no means happy that it was over, she was certainly happy that it had happened. She caught smiles from the various other students around her and managed to ignore the small amount of depressed ones; it was obvious the air still teemed with the excitement of the dance.
As she walked out the door and headed in the direction of the grand staircase, she was please to see that Bryan had agreed to follow her to their common room. Truthfully, it only made sense, but Susan liked to think it was a brilliant idea. As he found a place beside her no more attempts at conversation were made. Oddly, it didn’t seem awkward in Susan’s mind. She remained silent as Bryan did the same, sending him a smile every now and then as they ascended the stairs at an even pace.
It wasn’t long until they had found their way into the common room with a group of other Gryffindors. A few slumped onto the sofas and into the armchairs while the majority of the remaining had quickly made their way up the last of the stairs into the separate dormitories, leaving Bryan and Susan in their strange sense of space once more.
Fighting the mounting butterflies in her stomach, Susan managed to speak without stuttering, “Thanks,” she said blushing softly before continuing, “So, I’ll see you around?” She posed it as a question, waiting for a confirmation, not wanting the fairy tale of tonight to disappear like a dream.

Eventually, with the night winding down and everything coming to an end, the silence between Susan and he did not seem awkward. At first he had felt the need to say something, but as they continued to walk up to their common room and in turn towards the stairs to Susan's dorm, Bryan felt the awkwardness melt away into contentment. He did not feel there was anything else he would have preferred to add to this evening. It had all turned out much better than he had believed it would.
He had left the common room earlier than night in the belief he would spend the evening glued to a chair drawing. What a pleasant surprise to find this untrue. Instead, he had somehow managed to become, to be allowed, Susan's date for the evening. Even Bryan admitted that being her date had seemed a hell of a lot better than just sitting around and drawing. Yes, he liked to draw, but there was always something that would seem better than what one liked. Bryan found that something better for this night.
A heavy feeling came over Bryan's stomach when they came to a final halt, their final destination. After this the evening would be officially over. Bryan slid his hands into the pockets of his dress robes. His mind was momentarily thrown back to when he had kissed her cheek earlier. Should he do that again? His mind knew not how to answer that. With his mind running, his instincts had seemed to back away and his gaze only rested on Susan when she spoke. He smiled at her. "I'm sure you will," he told her, his tone as light as his smile. "So, good night until then," he then said to her, giving her a silly flourish bow of parting, the smile turning into a grin before he moved to head to the staircase for his own dormitory.

The positive answer from Bryan sent a thrilling swarm of butterflies tickling her insides. In that moment and the many preceding it, Susan was aware of exactly how happy she was with the night and the events that had unfolded. How much better it was to spend a dance with another than to coast along alone and single! Now that she’d received a taste of this perfect night, it would undoubtedly be difficult to top. Unable to contain herself, Susan simply beamed.
As undesirable as it was, the end to the night was inevitable. Susan was suddenly aware of this as Bryan, as reluctant as she, said his good night with a smile. Smiling first, she then erupted into soft giggles as she witnessed his silly bow. Not knowing quite what fueled her, as Bryan rose once more, Susan took a small step forward placing one hand gently on his shoulder to make the upward movement, her lips met his cheek in one quick peck.
Though the idea was far from original, Susan was suddenly surprised with her self, out of character as this action was. “Good night,” she said, returning to her previous smile resulting from the giggles which she felt might erupt from her once more in her giddiness. In a quick moment, she removed her hand, releasing him to his dormitory as she turned to quickly ascend the stairs to her own, not caring to wait around for something to come along and destroy the moment, the moment that was theirs.

As Bryan rose from the flourished bow, he felt a small amount of pressure at his shoulder. Slightly confused, the Gryffindor raised his head to feel a soft sensation brush his cheek as his eyes took in the dark colored hair from the corner of his eye. The boy was frozen in motion, standing there in surprised as the girl's lips brushed his cheek. The action had caught him completely off guard, just as his own peck on her cheek earlier had been without thought. However, Bryan could not bring himself to think rationally right away after the Gryffindor girl was pulling herself away.
He felt her hand leave his shoulder and her own voice returning his farewell, before she was already turning to head up to her own dormitory. Bryan had no idea how long he remained standing there. However, after sometime, he raised his hand and touched the spot she had kissed, much in the same fashion the girl had done earlier. A smile spread over his lips before he dropped his hand and turned to head to his own dormitory.
The night had definitely turned out far more surprising than he had ever anticipated. However, he could not help feeling that a new set of questions had fallen into his lap.
