((OOC: This thread is open to anyone, however I've written it with a certain intention. I would like to get Scarlett involved in the Shadow Wars, however she currently lacks nearly any defensive skills. She would currently be no help whatsoever, and probably more of a hindrance. If anyone has an interest in helping Scarlett improve her defense work, please reply to this thread. Thanks!))
Scarlett had stumbled upon the Astronomy Tower one evening on her way back to the Gryffindor common room. At the time, she thought nothing of the place except that it must be where the Astronomy class is. However, a few nights later, she realized it would probably be a very secluded place. The thought that others may have realized that as well didn't occur to her.
She had never been any good at Defense Against the Dark Arts and it had always bothered her, but it had become even more troublesome since she'd begun at Hogwarts. A very introverted person until you spoke to her, Scarlett didn't like the idea of having to demonstrate her utter failure at the subject in front of people she'd never met. At least at her old school when she did disastrous, it was in front of friends and she could show off about it.
That concern is what drove her up to the Astronomy Tower in the middle of the night. She figured no one would be up there so it would be the perfect place to practice. Scarlett sat against a portion of the tower wall with her text book open on her lap and her wand ready in her hand. "This is stupid," she muttered to herself. "What's the use of practicing this stuff by myself? If I already can't do it, why should sitting up here with this stupid textbook make me figure it out? And how will I even know if I get it right!? There's no one here for me to practice on!"
Angrily, Scarlett stood up, dumping her text book on the ground. Leaning over the edge of the tower, she scanned the ground below. Perhaps I could try spells on someone down on the ground, she thought amusedly. She doubted such a thing would ever work for her though. Her eyes flashed to the forest and a sudden chill ran down her spine, causing her to shudder. What would she do if she ever got caught in the forest, or any other dangerous place? She'd have no way to protect herself. The realization made her anxious.
"I'll just practice simple things," she resolved. "I've usually got down my Expelliarmus now. I'll try that." Mentally she added, On what? Shaking the negativity from her head, she began flicking her wand. "Expelliarmus," she mumbled. "Expelliarmus." She felt rather silly, but she kept going, her volume increasing with each time she tried it. "Expelliarmus. Expelliarmus. Expelliarmus." Scarlett was so into her little practice rhythm that the sound of the tower door opening behind her scared her quite a bit. Unthinkingly, she whirled around, flicking her wand and shouting, "Expelliarmus!"
The moment she did, she realized how foolish that was. Her first hope was that no one was there after all, but she knew that wasn't the case. Desperately, she hoped it wasn't a teacher or a prefect or anyone who would get her in trouble. She was already breaking curfew by being out in the middle of the night. For once, Scarlett hoped that her lack of defense skills would be present and the spell would have no effect.
