There wasn't more than an hour's notice before all of the student body of Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was now seated at their respective house tables, murmuring with questions that never seemed to be answered as they all sat in anticipation of finding out why the Headmistress had called for this assembly.
With grace, Caira LaPointe rose from her seat along the back of the Great Hall, avoiding everyone's questioning looks that may have deterred her from her focus. In her periphery she could see the concerned faces of her colleagues, but she was sure that after her speech, all concern would be put to better use, or rest.
As she placed her hands on the podium, the cacophony of the students abated, until there was silence amongst the room.
"Students. It is no question that many of you, if not all of you, have heard of the recent disappearance of a Ravenclaw student that attends this school, Alessandro Darko. We are doing the best we can to send out search parties into the Forbidden Forest, and they outlying areas. Indeed, the manner of which he has gone from the grounds is disturbing. Not one single individual is able to explain how a fifteen year old boy was able to walk straight out of the castle, and off of the grounds in the dead of night. Her voice was steady, and growing stern as her anger began to churn in the depths of her soul. She wanted answers just as much as anyone else, though for more selfish, and dark reasons. "I'm sure that many of you would agree with me when I say that this is a very big problem. We cannot have anymore losses. First a death, now a disappearance. The reputation of Hogwarts is strong, but cannot withstand loss. If I continue to allow such things to happen, there is no doubt in my mind that the school will be shut down or under strict ministry surveillance. She paused for a moment, letting everything she had just said seep into their brains. "Which brings me to my next announcement. The Ministry of Magic is sending two officials to oversee how the school is being run. I expect everyone on their best behavior. No magic in the corridors in between class exchange. And I am afraid that there will be a strict curfew imposed at the hour of 8 o'clock in the evening. Students will be expected to be in their common rooms, or dormitories no later than this time. If for some reason a student wishes to travel outside of the common room, a prefect shall be required to accompany them." She took a moment to survey her audience and perhaps gain some insight to whom the late night wanderers may be. There was some murmuring as she had paused, no doubt they all found distaste in the newly imposed rules, but something had to be done.
"If any student is found out of boundaries concerning these new rules, swift and appropriate punishment will be enforced. I suggest you do not test these waters." She said with a look that would send any dark wizard into submission. "Very well, that is all. Dinner may begin." With those final words, each house table magically flourished with food and drink, and a place setting for each student seated appeared out of thin air.
Feeling like she would much rather avoid questions from her colleagues, she swept from the Great Hall to dine alone in her office.
