Tired of tossing and turning for hours on end, Aimee threw her legs over the side of her bed. She slipped on her house shoes and tiptoed out of the dormitory and down to the Common Room. As she expected, it was empty. The fire was still raging and cast a strange glow through out the room. Aimee curled up into a little ball and tried to read a book. That of course lasted about 5 seconds. Aimee stood up, stretched and let her feet guide her wherever they pleased.
They led her out of the Common Room, down the hall and flights of stairs. It was odd to see Hogwarts after everyone was asleep. The castle seemed both inviting and foreboding at the same time, reaching in side her sweat pants pocket, Aimee withdrew her wand, "Lumos," she whispered. The end of her wand lit up. She squinted her eyes at the shock of sudden light.
It turned out that she was in the ballroom of the Hogwarts castle. It was big and spacious, with a huge, shiney chandelier hanging in the middle of it. Aimee walked out to the middle of the room, turned in a fast circle, stopped and just let herself plop down.
"Hmm." She sighed. It seemed as if nothing would kill her bordem.

Cavan hadn't been able to sleep that night, something was bothering him and he couldn't figure out what it was. He'd finished all his homework, hoping that the task would help him sleep, he'd worked on his Akkadian until his eyes hurt, but still he couldn't sleep. He'd finally written home, sending his owl Tad to deliver the message, knowing that he'd be faster than one of the school owls.
He was now on his way back to his dormitory, he'd rather not be caught out past curfew, especially not in what he was currently wearing. Grey fleece footsie pajamas with Hungarian Horntails flying around breathing fire on them were not the thing to make anyone think of him as more mature than his age. He'd thankfully remembered to leave his stuffed Hippogriff on his bed before he'd left. Feeling a chill he pulled his bathrobe close around him, hurrying to get back to the fire in the common room and maybe try deciphering the Akkadian book of fables again.
He was almost to the entrance of his common room when he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. He paused, hiding in the shadows as he glanced into the ballroom, squinting at the light from a wand. He'd been wandering around in the dark, as he felt more comfortable in the dim light so it took him a few moments to adjust to the brightness of the wand. With a sigh of relief he realized it wasn't an adult, but another student and silently he wondered if she was having the same trouble as himself. Forgetting his wardrobe dilemma he slipped into the ballroom to investigate.
"Can't sleep?" His question carried across the room and seemed to amplify slightly as it did so. He might make someone look twice as he came out of the shadows, no wand drawn, wearing a black bathrobe, his midnight black hair hanging in his face, curling slightly at the edges. His eyes were a dark enough blue that in the dim light, they might even look akin to black. He smirked suddenly, remembering the games he used to play with his siblings, he was often the 'ghost of young Severus Snape' when they played and he supposed that to some, he might have a resemblance.

"Can't sleep?" His question carried across the room and seemed to amplify slightly as it did so.
Aimee had laid down on her back, only to jump back up when she heard a voice from behind her. Almost automatically, she jumped to her feet. With all that she had been hearing about whats going on and Aimee being alone in a huge castle, she was a bit frightened. She pointed her still lit wand towards where the voice had came from.
"Who are you?" Aimee lowered her wand a bit. She felt a little stupid for being frightened of a kid it footsie pajamas. The newcomer looked quite a bit like a young Severus Snape. A very young Snape. She lowered her wand a little more, realizing that he couldn't be more than a first or second year.
"No, can't sleep. You?" She tried to be a bit more friendly, "I'm Aimee Miller by the way."

He was surprised when she jumped to her feet, actually quite gracefully at the sound of his voice, he hadn't meant to startle her and as a result he had to squint as the brightly lit wand was pointed at him.
"Who are you?"
Cavan let a breath out he hadn't known he was holding as she lowered her wand a bit. He felt a little stupid standing there in his footsie pajamas and a bathrobe. "I'm Cavan Weiss, sorry to startle you... But in all fairness, you startled me first," he told her moving closer and offering his hand in greeting. "I thought you were a teacher when I saw the light from your wand. I thought for sure I was going to get detention, not that I don't have the free time... But I don't think Caira would find that very advantagous..."
"No, can't sleep. You? I'm Aimee Miller by the way."
"No, I couldn't sleep either, and I've done just about everything I can think of and to no avail... sleep escapes me. I'm actually starting to get a little bored and I'm guessing you are too, if our meeting place is any clue." He brushed some of his hair out of his face and behind his ear before giving her a bright smile, "You wouldn't be interesting in joining me for a midnight snack would you? I'll understand if you've already tried that method, but it's just now struck me that that is one thing I haven't tried yet."

"Cavan Weiss...that name doesn't ring a bell. What year are you in?" Aimee took the offered hand. She lowered her wand all together now but left it lit so they could see.
I thought you were a teacher when I saw the light from your wand. I thought for sure I was going to get detention."
She smiled and said, "I'm far from a teacher so you won't be getting a detention from me. Besides, if you do this being out after hours right, you won't have to worry about a detention." Then she added, "Sorry if my light got in your eyes. It's like pitch black in here whenever there isn't any light."
The thought of food didn't quite appeal to Aimee at the moment but she would do anything to help her get to sleep, or to have company while she was awake, "Yes, I'm bored out of my mind! A midnight snakc sounds great!" Aimee said and again smiled, "To the kitchen?"

"Cavan Weiss...that name doesn't ring a bell. What year are you in?"
"I'm a first year," he confessed, "and I'm in Hufflepuff." He shook her hand gently but firmly before letting it go. "I'm pretty new and I tend to keep to myself, so don't feel bad about not having heard of me..."
"I'm far from a teacher so you won't be getting a detention from me. Besides, if you do this being out after hours right, you won't have to worry about a detention. Sorry if my light got in your eyes. It's like pitch black in here whenever there isn't any light."
"I don't know about doing it right or wrong, I'm normally asleep by now. I'd much rather wander around during the day, even if..." He stopped realizing if he continued she was going to look at him oddly. He didn't think it was normal for him to be able to see so well in the dark. He'd looked at the ballroom before he'd gone up to the owlery, having just noticed it, being too busy during the day. He couldn't help thinking it looked a lot different in wand light, a bit eerie actually. "It's alright, I'd probably do the same thing in your position." He knew that was an out right lie, he wouldn't have needed to blind her, she'd be caught unawares if he attacked because he didn't need lumos giving his position away to see.
"Yes, I'm bored out of my mind! A midnight snack sounds great! To the kitchen?"
Cavan clasped his hands together and nodded, bright smile back in place, "To the kitchen!" He offered her his hand, knowing he was far to short to offer an arm, "Let us away." And with that, he led the way down to the kitchens, hiding his annoyance at the wand light's hindrance of his vision.
(Shall we move to the kitchens?)

"Hmm, you are the first first year I've met, I think." Aimee let go of the boy's hand, "Why do you keep to yourself? Most everyone here is nice. At least, the people that I know. Then again, I suppose it's one's preference to keep to there self."
Aimee shook her head at herself. She had the tendency to ramble whenever insomnia overtook her. "I'm usually at least in bed right now too. That or frantically trying to finish homework." At the word homework, Aimee cringed. She had an essay to do, but she had given up on it. She mentally pictured it still sitting on one of the tables in the common room.
Aimee laughed and took the again offered hand, "Lead the way." She followed him down the corridors to the elf kitchen.
((too the kitchens it is! ;D))
