This was the second time that Blaire had marched up these staires. She remembered the first time when she retrived the badge on her robes. Headmistress LaPointe had tried to be helpful, but had almost insulted a student. This time however, Blaire was there on her own accord. She needed permission from the headmistress of the school to start a school paper.
There are many rumors going around the school. In fact, some of the students are scared. Blaire thought out what she was going to say the Professor LaPointe, I believe that having a school wid newspaper would be able to disspell those rumors and put many peoples mind at ease. Plus, for students wishing to go into journalism, this would help a great deal.
She finally reached the door and knocked confidently. She wanted to look as professional as a student could, so she stood straight and took in a deep breathe. The breathe getting caught in her lungs and making her cough as the door opened.

Caira looked up from her paperwork as a knock sounded at the door. She shuffled her papers to clear things away a bit as she lifted her wand and said a quiet spell to unlock it. As it opened, it revealed none other than Blaire Paisley, the Gryffindor prefect she had appointed earlier in the year. Caira smiled and stood from her desk, a brief look of concern crossing her face as she coughed.
"Good heavens dear, do you have a cold?" she asked as she stepped forward. "Let's get some tea going and find out what you wanted to talk about." She gestured for Blaire to enter the room and take a seat in the chairs by the fireplace. She noted Blaire's straight posture and assumed that whatever she had to say might be particularly important.
On the small, round table between the two chairs was the familiar tea service, along with a tray of pasties. "Please, make yourself comfortable," bit Caira as she poured a cup of tea for the both of them. "And tell me what it is you wished to speak with me about.

"Oh, no. I' don't have a cold." Blaire smiled, "thank you for the tea though." Blaire walked inside the office, and sat down in the chair. For a minute, she watched as Professor LaPointe poured the tea.
"And tell me what it is you wished to speak with me about."
"Well, some of the other students and I have been talking about starting a school paper. There are many rumors going around the school," Blaire started, "I'm sure you've heard them. Anyway, some of the students are frightened. A school paper could dig to the bottom of all of these rumors."
Blaire waited for a reply, but before the Headmistress could say anything Blaire added, "Plus, for students wanting to go into journalism after Hogwarts, this would help."

Caira listened to Blaire's request. On the surface it didn't seem like much, just starting a school newspaper. However, Caira knew that there were things going on at Hogwarts she'd prefer weren't open to public scrutiny. Then, there was also the possibility that one of the zealous budding journalists might come across her identity as the lead of Dark Phoenix's army.
"Well Blaire, I think you have an excellent point about journalism at Hogwarts." she paused thoughtfully. "My only concern is that we want to make sure that digging to the bottom of these rumors doesn't turn into a gossip column of sorts." She paused. "I think... I think that if you really want to do this, I'm going to have to insist that you have a teacher as a sponsor. Someone who can help you all with producing a newspaper and can generally oversee or help students who need it."
She nodded, making her decision. "Find a sponsor for your paper and we'll get you off the ground." She paused, an idea suddenly coming to mind. "In fact, I'll be happy to sponsor a student newspaper. That way you don't have to find a sponsor and I'll be able to get to know some of the students better." She nodded as a warm smile broke out on her face. "Yes, that's exactly it. What do you think?"

Blaire shifted in her seat to get comfortable while she waited for Claira to reply. "Thank you professor." She smiled at the compliment and then added, "No I wouldn't want it to turn into a gossip column either. We could also feature things that are going on within the school. Like if we had something like the Halloween ball again."
"I think... I think that if you really want to do this, I'm going to have to insist that you have a teacher as a sponsor. Someone who can help you all with producing a newspaper and can generally oversee or help students who need it."
She nodded, making her decision. "Find a sponsor for your paper and we'll get you off the ground."
Blaire's head spun at first. She thought that the headmistress would have just given her a yes or no answer. But then it seemed as if Claira had read her mind. Smiling she said, " You will sponsor the newspaper? I think thats a fabulous idea!"

Caira smiled, happy that Blaire seemed happy with the idea of her acting as a sponsor. She knew it would be much easier to keep watch over the content of the paper if the students working on it were friendly to her. "I'm glad you agree," she replied with a smile. "So, any ideas for the rest of your staff? And ideas for your first headline?" She set her teacup aside. "I assume you'll be interested in the position of student editor, right?"
"That'll be a lot of extra responsibility for you, as your already a prefect. If you run up on any problems in keeping up with both during the year, do let me know. We can appoint an assistant editor or do whatever we need to make sure your grades and schoolwork don't suffer." Her eyes widened in excitement as a new thought occurred to her. "Oooh, have you thought of a name for the newspaper yet? Oh, but it has to be something catchy... any ideas?"

(sorry i haven't replied, I couldn't get to the computer for a while)
Headlines, staff, student editor...Blaire grimaced. She hadn't thought about any of this. She had been focused on the act of actually having permission to start the paper. Her mind started producing ideas of how to get things rolling. "Actually, I haven't even thought about all of that. Perhaps, I could post flyers around the castle and maybe you could make an announcement at breakfast?"
"I'm sure that I could cope with the responsiblity. However, if it does get out of hand I'll hand over the job to the best staff member." Blaire's smile came back to her face, "The name of the paper...hmm. I think it should be named by the students. What if they submitted ideas and then we have a vote on the best ones?" A bubble of excitment was begining to rise in Blaire's chest.

"Voting sounds great. And maybe instead of an announcement, we should put up fliers. I think people will be more likely to respond to something in writing... more likely to remember, anyway." Caira shifted slightly in her seat. "I'll let you arrange to have students vote on the name of the new newspaper and we'll see what we come up with."
She smiled at Blaire. "I'm going to leave most of the control in your hands. I'll supervise and assist with the editing, but this is going to be a student run newspaper. You're all going to be in charge of the operations and day-to-day goings on of it." She smiled. "It's a great idea. I'm glad you thought of it."

"Hmm, I never thought of that, but I suppose you're right. They would probably forget." Blaire agreed. Now she was going to have to think of what to put on the flyer, when to put them out, where to put them and to make sure that people saw them. "I think that it would be better to get some of the staff together and then think about the name. That way as soon as we have enough stories and things to fill the newspaper, we could go ahead and print it."
"Then again, maybe we should have the name first...I'll just put both on the flyers. That should take care of it." Blaire rambled on. "I'll try and make sure everything goes smoothly. That and that we focus on the actual news instaed of gossip." She returned the smile and stood up to go, "Thank you for the permission, Professor LaPointe. I guess I'll leave you to your work now."
