Referred By: Closet Full of Fear
Name: Luce Colette Alther
Age: 16
Sex: Female
Nationality: British
Speech: English, French
Blood: Half-blood
Father: Marcel Alther
Mother: Cerys Alther [deceased]
Siblings: Mara and Kelsey
Other Family: None she knows, though her mother used to speak of her sister, so there are likely to be some out there.
Family Interactions:
Luce is quite different with her family than anyone else. She loves them all dearly, and she is very close with her siblings. Their father is a workaholic, and doesn’t make much time for that. The trio of siblings make up for that by being unusually close. Mara is like a mother to both her younger siblings, fussing over them and watching over them like a hawk. Kelsey is Luce’s favorite [and only] big brother, and she takes great amusement in teasing and pranking him at every possible opportunity. Specifically, putting makeup on him when he sleeps, since they look so much alike that she just finds it hilarious.
When they were younger, they were very close with their mother, but she died when Luce was very young so she doesn’t really remember her. She’s slightly jealous of her sibs for remembering so much about their mother, and wishes she had more than fragments of her mother’s language and scattered images and thoughts to hold on to.
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 139 lbs
Hair: Blond, short
Eyes: Blue
Skin Colour: Quite fair
Clothing style: Comfortable
Accessories: A camera is often seen hanging from around her neck... if that counts.
Other: N/A
Paragraph Format:
Luce is a tall and skinny girl. She is somewhat underweight, through no fault of her own. She lacks the usual feminine curves, being all angles and long limbs. She’s still a bit awkward because of this, though she’s finally starting to feel comfortable in her own skin. Speaking of her skin, she’s very fair and prone to sunburns, though not freckles to her relief.
The young witch is pretty in an unconventional sort of way. With her short hair, and almost boyish face, and her boyish body, she is the epitome of androgyny. Her ambiguous features are quite alright with her. Girly girls get on her nerves; there’d be no way that she’d want to be mistaken for one. Her hair is a pale blond and it frames a cute face with dark blue eyes, an odd nose, and a mouth that seems slightly too big for her face. She wears whatever is comfortable, tending toward jeans and t-shirts when she can, with sweaters during the winter and tank tops and cut-offs during the summer. All in all, Luce’s appearance is in keeping with her personality. Completely her own.
Personality:
Generally, Luce would say that she's a reasonably nice girl. That is, to people she likes. If someone doesn't respect her or her friends, or messes with her sibs, they're going to have to deal with her. And Luce's wrath is not pretty. She isn't prone to fits of violence. Rather, she's prone to fits of revenge in the form of pranks. And a harmless prank, in her opinion, might be deemed uncalled for by others. She can get carried away. There are, of course, situations where she will take things this way too far. When she doesn't think that a silly prank is enough to punish someone for their actions. And that is when someone should be worried. She might blast someone with a spell, or throw punches. But enough of that. Pranks and revenge are only a small example of her actions. Generally, she just ignores people she doesn't like. And she doesn't like a lot of people. People she deems to be annoying, boring, disgusting, or otherwise beneath her interest.
Her friends and family, they have everything. Her complete loyalty, trust, love, and protection. She ONLY has close friends; she doesn't go half way in these things. Everyone else are just acquaintances, faces in the hall. She will fight, kill, die for these people. Not that she'd just throw her life or that of another away without hesitation, its just how devoted to those who get past her guard and into her heart. She doesn't trust easily, but once you have it... you better not lose it because its just impossible to regain it once its gone. Her favorite person in the world is her big brother, and the one way for someone that she likes to instantly lose her interest would be to speak badly of him or upset him.
Luce is a girl in action. She loves Quidditch, she loves anything involving motion, and flying is the best of it all. She runs every morning before classes, before breakfast, and again at night before taking a shower and passing out. Another passion of hers is photography. Art in any form is a love of hers, though, so she might be seen splattered with paint or with charcoal smudged across a cheek at any time. She's creative and likes seeing creativity in others, whether its music or similar to her own creativity. She likes reading, once in a while, but its not her thing. She just has too much pent up energy to spend much time reading. She likes a few classes, but the less homework the better. On hands work is the best, and that's how she learns easiest.
A side of her that only her dearest friends and her siblings see; she can be a completely bubbly, happy, and carefree girl. Throwing herself into the moment, flirting with disaster [or at least detention], and loving every moment of it. She has an odd sense of humor. Something that someone would find completely weird or offensive, she would just start laughing. She also starts laughing as a reaction to being surprised.
History:
Luce was born three years after her older brother, to a loving couple living in the countryside. Their older sister helped take care of the both of them, loving playing mommy. Their real mother whispered to them in french, nursery rhymes and promises for the future. Promises that she failed to keep. Luce was still a toddler when their mother vanished, only to turn up dead. Murdered. The crime remained unsolved, leaving their father a complete wreck. He couldn't face his children, he couldn't even look at them. They looked too much like her. Like the woman burned into his soul, lost forever. So he threw himself into his work, giving them anything they wanted and failing to give them the one thing they really needed from him at that time. His love, his support, and his shoulder to cry on.
They supported each other, Mara more than the rest. She took their mothers spot, cooking and cleaning and looking after her younger siblings. That is, she tried to cook. It was mostly sandwiches until Kelsey got older, because Mara was a complete failure in the kitchen and the pretty blond boy seemed to be unable to do wrong in that area. In just about every other area, their brother seemed to be unable to do any right. He was clumsy, impossibly energetic, and accident prone. The amount of times and places he managed to break bones was worrisome. It distracted their father, briefly, from work. And Luce came to the conclusion.. that Kel was doing it on purpose. Subconsciously or consciously, she didn't know, but it was to get attention. Doing outrageous things for attention and it was working.
As usual, she followed in her brother's steps. And took things further than he would ever dare, sweet thing that he was. She got her father's attention, that was for sure. And for the first time, he seemed to really notice that he had been neglecting them. A little too late. He couldn't get through to them, to any of them. They stared at him as if he was a stranger when he came into a room, before turning away. It was cruel and a little sad, but they were still young. And he had failed them. He had abandoned them when they needed him.
It was almost a shock when Mara was accepted into Hogwarts. As much as they dreamt and hoped to be magic like their mother, it didn't seem like it was going to happen. Barely anything unusual happened around them. It must've been enough for Mara. And, to Luce's dismay, enough for Kel. She had a hissyfit, she sobbed, she tried to convince him not to go or to somehow bring her along. But in the end she stopped and all but forced him out the door. She wanted the best for her brother, and if he could be a wizard then she wouldn't hold him back. The time alone with her father did her some good. They talked, and though they were not nearly as close as they could have been, they had a sort of friendship that formed in the three years that she waited and hoped to be accepted into Hogwarts. To join her brother, her sister, because she just couldn't stand to be left alone.
Coming to Hogwarts was everything she could have hoped for, and nothing like she expected. Everything was just so... different. She came to think of the place as a second home. Quidditch came to be her favorite sport ever, though she didn't really have any favorite classes. She liked Charms, DADA, Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology, and Transfiguration. The only class she really disliked was History of Magic, and that was just because it was so boring. Maybe if there was an interested teacher it would be better, but she doubted it. It was just too long sitting there listening to someone drone on about the past. Her siblings graduated from Hogwarts a few years back, but she's still happy there on her own. She's made friends, and has found confidence in being on her own anyway. She doesn't need to cling to her siblings for support anymore. Which is for the best.
