“It’s good to have you back, darling.” His mothers words crossed the magical threshold from his two-way mirror. After the headmistress notified his parents of his return, they immediately requested that he come home. To their surprise, Alessandro opted to remain at Hogwarts, feeling that he had spent enough time away from school as it was, leaving his allies and teammates without an Elemental Master of Fire, and leaving his studies to decrepitude. His mother wouldn’t have it at first but then eventually after much persuasion from Hewlett, much to Alessandro’s surprise that he would ever concede to any of his wishes, she relented and allowed her ickle son to remain at school. Their conversation has been a pleasant one, full of the beautiful lies that he had spun for Headmistress LaPointe, recounting his struggles in America after his clandestine contact with the rogue portkey, which, his mother was now launching several attacks at the ministry for. She told him that she and Hewlett would be sending a care package via Owl as soon as possible for him, filled with all of the delicious sweets that he loved, and when she asked him if there was anything special that he would like her to include, he had to think on this.
He would use this opportunity for gifts to his advantage and would think if there was anything in specific that he could request-- not for his own personal gain or use, but something that would perhaps benefit his team, maybe give them an edge over the forces of darkness that so desperately wanted to crush them. So Alessandro thought for a moment, and then something came to mind. A copy of Moste Potente Potions would be valuable to have on hand instead of checking it out of the library for months at a time. It would also be more inconspicuous. He figured Keaira would be able to put that to good use, since she was pretty good at brewing up a polyjuice potion. He then thought of Wysteria, since she had little ability to cast regular wand magic, she would be susceptible to magical attack, prompting him to request some Shield Gloves. Those would at least offer her a bit of extra protection against some rudimentary curses, hexes, and jinxes. He dare not request anything further to spike suspicion within his mother, for those two items were a bit out of the ordinary for him to request, seeing as his mother knew he was dreadful in Potions class, and that he knew more magic spells than most students his age, he was able to properly defend himself against basic jinxes and such.
“Thank you mum, I really do appreciate it. I’m just about to open up my Transfigurations book and get started on all the back work, so I’ll talk to you later, then?” He asked, scrunching up his forehead, hoping she wouldn’t wail and moan about how she never gets to see him anymore. “Oh, alright dear. I’ll have Hewlett go out and fetch you those items you’ve requested from Diagon Alley, but I find it highly peculiar that you would find you need such things? My darling boy, there’s no doubt in my mind that you take after me in academics and magic. I was a Ravenclaw too, almost was Head Girl in my day, as you know, and you clearly have no need for charmed dragon skin gloves. And…Moste Potente Potions? Alessandro, we both know your marks in Potions are somewhat of a disappointment…” Of course she had to interrogate. Her sharp mind was only the precursor of his own, and she’d be sure to get her answers, and he‘d oblige her in giving them. Nodding at her image in the mirror as she looked confused, he spoke. “Mum, while you bring up clear and precise points of fact, I must enforce that I am your son and only striving for the best. Don’t you think if I studied a difficult potions book before my re-entry into classes, I’ll have improved? And, of course I know enough counter-spells to have no need for charmed dragon hide gloves, but when you’re playing Quidditch, mum, it’s quite difficult to cast a proper defensive spell, especially when you’re in sight of the snitch.” He said with a smile, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning back on his bed as he regarded her image in the mirror. Her face showed that she was amused with her son’s response and left it at that.
“Right you are, Alessandro. Well done, then. I’ll leave you to your studies. Please do try and stay out of trouble, alright? I can’t bear to have you lose your memories again, or get lost…again. Understood?” He nodded begrudgingly and gave her a look that suggested that she ought to be going. “Alright then, goodbye dear.” With that, his mother Ariana vanished from the two-way mirror, leaving behind only Alessandro’s reflection. He continued to stare into the mirror, taking a cold, hard look at himself. He had changed since the beginning of his fifth year. Mentally, as well as physically-- thanks to the resurrection. He found that his body felt slightly different after being revived. More matured perhaps? Regardless, he would use the experience taken from “dying” and use it to push his allies in the right direction. They needed unification.
“It’s time to gain a little leverage in this war.” He said with determination, sliding off his bed and taking leave from his dormitory.
