Name: Zephyr Kwon Age: 16 Sex: Male Nationality: Korean. Speech: English Blood: Half-blood.
Father: Hyunchul Kwon Mother: Jaehee Park Siblings: none Other Family: Sunye Kwon (grandmother)
Family Interactions: Zephyr has a lot of respect for his father and his grandmother. More than he sees them as his family, he sees them as his Magical mentors. When not in Hogwarts, Zephyr spends most of his time at home with his father or grandmother, and they would give him the kind of education that he could not acquire from Hogwarts. In return, Zephyr's father and grandmother value him as their skilled protege. They are more than happy to see Zephyr's good marks from school, and they want Zephyr to be more well-versed in both Western and Eastern Magic.
Zephyr does not wish to be associated with his Muggle mother, who left when he was just a baby.
Height: 181cm Weight: 63kg Hair: brown Eyes: brown Skin Colour: light Clothing style: Zephyr is more often than not seen in dark-colored Wizard-made clothing. Accessories: None.
Other: None.
Paragraph Format: Zephyr is a pale-skinned boy of slightly above average height and of slender yet muscular built. Although he is taller than most sixteen-year-old Asians, he can be mistaken for someone younger because of somewhat baby-face features. His eyes look as if they are always smiling, but he seldom actually smiles with his lips. Zephyr has large hands and feet, which are a bit distracting with his lanky form. His long limbs and lean shoulders project his physical potential to be a fairly good Quidditch player.
Many of the clothes that make up Zephyr's wardrobe are dark-colored traditional Korean wizard robes and cloaks made by his grandmother. Zephyr loves these robes, because their colors seem to reflect a possession of superior magical power and strength. He could not care any less about Muggle clothes and will not wear them even if it depended on his life. He would rather wear hard, heavy dragon-leather boots than supposedly comfortable Muggle-manufactured rubber shoes.
Personality: Zephyr has an unexplainably likable personality. In a group, he almost always stands out and is often picked as a leader. At the moment, he has a fair number of followers who trust him and depend on him for help and advice in schoolwork and other pre-adolescent problems. Even Zephyr cannot comprehend why these people are so drawn to him. He knows himself as one of the most impatient and least sympathetic guys in his class. Even when he deliberately shows disinterest and indifference towards others, they still tend to find him approachable and kind. Sometimes, Zephyr would take advantage of these people by subtly asking them for huge favors in exchange for his small ones.
Zephyr's most prominent quality is his superiority complex. He is aware of his above average capabilities, and he chooses to flaunt them. His academic performance is exemplary. He has earned the reputation as one of the smartest boys in his class. His goal is to graduate with top ranks and to work as an Auror in the Ministry or as a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. At the moment, Zephyr is only capable of performing spells at his level, but he already likes to read on advanced Magic. He even spends time in his father's library, where many Dark Magic books can be found. Zephyr does not rule out the Dark Arts in his study because he believes it is part of a wizard's nature to be skilled in the Dark Arts. He does believe, however, that the Dark Arts should be used only when the situation demands it.
Zephyr's main interests lie mostly in Dark Magic, spell work, Quidditch, and reading books. He is also fairly interested in the arts, and enjoys sketching in his free time. In terms of friends, Zephyr prefers individuals who are responsible, independent, and serious. He likes having someone with whom he could have a decent intellectual conversation. Unlike most kids his age, Zephyr enjoys his classes, or at least tries to enjoy them. His favorite subjects are Transfiguration and Charms.
Above anything else, Zephyr dislikes Muggles. He thinks their existence is ridiculous and pointless. He doesn't mind Muggleborns, but pure Muggles just irk him tremendously. Zephyr hates all sorts of nonsensical behavior. He dislikes pranksters and therefore hates Peeves the Poltergeist. He does not like people who take studying for granted, but he doesn't really care about them. His least favorite subject is Herbology, and dreaded having to take Care of Magical Creatures in his third year.
Zephyr's most noticeable habit is his constant loosening and tightening of his Hogwarts tie. He's not very fond of the tie, and wants to take it off most of the time. He also sneers and purses his lips too much and for no apparent reason.
Zephyr is a very responsible and diligent student. He learns quickly and has very good memory. He is attentive and is quick to catch details, even the minor ones. Zephyr could master a spell shortly after it is taught. He could also easily digest ideas and draw his own conclusions from them. Zephyr does not have any trouble following rules and complying with requirements, but when he does choose to break rules, he knows how not to get caught. He possesses a kind of charm that allows him to get his way with almost anything. He is a good liar and a very convincing actor. When he needs to get himself out of something, he could easily come up with an excuse. Because many people are unaware of this side of his personality, he finds it easy to gain others' sympathies.
Zephyr's pride has put him high on a pedestal. If someone bursts his ego or hurts his pride the least bit, he could take a really bad fall. Zephyr is easily blinded by anger. He has the tendency to wish and do harm to someone who provokes or threatens him. His greatest fear is fear itself. He does not want to be seen as weak, frightened, or easily shaken.
History: Zephyr Kwon was born in Busan, South Korea to Hyunchul Kwon and Jaehee Park. Before Zephyr’s first birthday, his mother left their family. It was unknown to her that the man she had married was a wizard. Jaehee knew nothing of the Wizarding world, and Magic was a thing of pure nonsense and bollocks to her. She was more than horrified when she found her husband’s trunk of spell books and potion ingredients. At that, she left Hyunchul and their baby. She had already guessed that their son would be just as freakish as her husband.
Zephyr never asked about his mother until the age of five. It was when he started attending a wizard kindergarten in the Korean Magic community in Busan. Most of the children in the school had two magic parents, and none lived with only one parent. This puzzled Zephyr, and it led him to ask his father why it was so. Hyunchul told him everything --- from his mother’s being a Muggle and the reason why she left. Hyunchul knew nothing about Muggles, except that they were a different kind of people. Zephyr was seven when he understood that they had no magic. This acquired knowledge of Muggles made him dislike them. He thought that the absence of magic from a human being was an abnormality.
When he turned eight, Zephyr moved to Holborn City in London, England with his father and his father’s mother. His father was hired to produce medical Oriental potions at St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies. While his father worked, he would roam the hospital and learn about the ways of Western wizards from the staff. While Zephyr was captivated by Western magic, his grandmother, Sunye Kwon, made sure that he did not forget about his South Korean heritage. Sunye taught Zephyr Oriental magic at home, and he learned the Western ways from the people in the hospital. His immersion in two different cultures broadened Zephyr’s mind in terms of magical possibilities.
Oriental magic had a lot of similarities to what Westerners believed as Dark Arts. Zephyr liked Western magic, but he could not understand their fuss about curses. It was not like they would be using the curses to harm random people. He believed the curses were around to be used on people who deserved to be tortured, controlled, or even killed. Still, Zephyr looked forward to attending Hogwarts and learning more about Wizarding culture in this part of the globe.
His real training in Western magic began when he entered Hogwarts. Zephyr had never actually tried his wand at working Western spells, but his first Transfiguration class proved his capabilities in them. Right after the professor gave them the spell to transfigure a needle into a matchstick, Zephyr just performed the simple incantation and wand movement and nailed the given task in one go. He had a similar experience in Charms class, and his first Potions classes were alright, too. It was in his first Herbology class that he nearly failed. He could not pot a certain plant properly. It took him three tries to get it right. Even though his grandmother had given him basic lessons on handling magical plants, Zephyr just couldn’t seem to get the hang of it. He could still remember the way his professor shook her head at him and told him that he was simply not blessed with a green thumb.
Although Herbology remains a bothering frustration for Zephyr, he still manages to earn good marks from his other subjects.
