D'rorah made her way carefully to the Room of Requirement. She had managed to find several different ways to make the trip, and knew each of them by rote. She found it was best to move through the castle as though she knew where she was going, but without too much purpose in her step. People noticed such things... best to keep them to a minimum. Even people who were typically dense and unobservant had been known to make the statement, "you look like you're going somewhere," and that was something she didn't want anyone to say about her.
After all, it was easiest to hide in the open... but only if one wasn't too open about doing it. It was an art.
It was difficult to keep her mind clear as she traveled through the corridors. She knew exactly what she hoped would happen today. If things went as she hoped, Kerridon would meet her in the Room of Requirement. They hadn't planned a meeting. That would be far too reckless... plans were too easily thought about, too easily worried over, and too easily discovered. Rather, her hope every time she ventured to the sixth floor and sought out the secret entrance to the room which housed the five Elemental Chambers was that she would meet Kerridon. She forced herself not to think of it, but she couldn't deny that the hope would fill her as soon as the door had safely closed behind her.
They didn't even notice one another around the school. For all an outside observer might know, neither was even aware of the other's existence. It was a difficult arrangement, but it was necessary for both their safety. She hardly dared to breathe as she quietly passed before the door, alert for anyone else who might be in the corridor as she made the requisite three passes and quietly slipped through the heavy door as soon as it appeared. She closed it quickly behind her and stood there for a moment, surveying the anteroom. The large stone table that dominated this room was surrounded by chairs, two for each of the five Elements. However, except for the normal items of furniture, there was no one in the room besides herself. She allowed her shoulders to sag for a moment before squaring them again.
After day after day of the same defeated hope, one would think she would have become accustomed to the disappointment of the empty room. But she hadn't. Her actions from this point forward had become rote as well... there was no need to find an alternate path. There were but two ways around the circular table, and she always took the way to the left, as it was slightly longer... every moment from this point forward would be dragged out almost painfully in the hope that she would hear the door begin to open behind her, and that it would reveal Kerridon.
Though now she had the confusion of Dylan's return to manage, it seemed. She felt guilt. Even though she had turned away from him because of the hatred he'd had for her after his return, it seemed that it hadn't been him at all. Rather, he'd been under the influence of a potion. And so, now that she'd finally started to heal and move on from the whole experience, Dylan had returned repentant and hoping that they could be together again. And so now she felt as though she was caught in a very awkward spot between Dylan and Kerridon and not wanting to hurt either one. But still, it was Kerridon she hoped to see now... who had become her support and helped her through Dylan's anger and disposal of her. He was the comfort who had kept her sane. And she missed him.
So, she made her way slowly around the table, alert for any sign that the door might be opening. Hearing nothing, she paused as her hand rested on the door to the room of Elemental Wind, straining her ears for anything... she opened the door slowly and stopped halfway through the threshold. Anyone watching would only be left to wonder why in the world D'rorah Philosophy was moving so slowly, so deliberately, so cautiously. It was that hope. But again, it found itself sold short as the main entrance gave no sign of opening. Finally, shaking her head slightly at her foolishness, she took a deep breath and proceeded into the room filled with gentle breezes. Rather than closing the door as she normally would have done, she left it partially open and situated herself so that she would see anyone coming in. Determined to wait a bit, just in case today was finally the day her hope would come to fruition, she settled in for meditation. At least, if she only spent the day waiting, she could still call it productive.

As Kerridon made his way up the ever-changing staircases of Hogwarts, there were no clear thoughts in his head of where he might headed. A few places such as the owlery or astronomy tower flitted about uncertainly, but his feet carried him steadily towards their intended destination even when his conscious mind was not yet aware of it. He had not visited the Great Hall for breakfast today despite his original intentions upon getting out of bed this morning at his usual early time. There was a vague awareness in his head that he needed to keep where he was heading uncertain, so he simply trusted his instincts and went where his feet directs.
A more difficult task in keeping his thoughts blank when he found himself in a familiar corridor on the sixth floor. A stirring of something like eager anticipation bubbled and he immediately pushed it down as he paced, focussing on the idea of somewhere to train. The door appeared and he stepped through, only allowing the mental barriers to drop once it was firmly shut.
This time he didn't fight the eagerness to see D'rorah as his eyes made their way around the room, searching for her. A moment later he was heading towards the open doorway that led to the Elemental Room of Wind. While the trip to New York had certainly been extremely pleasant, the wait for it had been too long for his liking. Apparently his subconscious had agreed and brought him here barely a week after their return from D'rorah's apartment. He could see her figure through the gap and paused in the doorway, watching her with a slight smile on his face.

D'rorah sat in her favored spot, facing the door to ther Room of Elemental Wind. She was doing her best to focus on meditation, intending to move to training after she'd managed to get her mind re-centered. It had become more difficult... thoughts constantly restrained in public or anywhere outside of the Room of Requirement were more distracting when she finally allowed herself to give in to them. It was an idulgence... but she reasoned with herself that she didn't normally allow very many indulgences for herself to begin with.
She was finally managing to calm her mind when she thought she felt another presence enter the room. But then, she had felt that same feeling several times earlier and they had proved to be nothing more than her own eager wishful thinking. And so, she forced herself to breathe deeply again and try to focus on centering her mind.
However, after a few minutes of fruitlessly attempting to ignore the feeling, she gave in to the urge to look once more. She fully expected there would be nothing there, and so, when she actually saw Kerridon in the doorway, she was so shocked that he was actually there that it took her several beats to fully accept the fact as truth. She opened her mouth to speak as she looked up at him, a slight smile to match his own settling on her features. [blue]"Did you come to simply stare at me through a doorway, Kerridon Paradox?"[/blue] she asked, the smile transforming slightly to a smirk as she rose from her seated position and sauntered slowly to the doorway. [blue]"That is such a tease after so many days of hoping."[/blue]
She stopped just in front of him, the door still slightly between them as she locked her eyes with his. One hand rested on the door knob as her other reached out and tentatively placed her fingertips on his cheek. It was her way of assuring herself that he really was there. She allowed her hand to linger for a moment. Another thought invaded her mind, one stating the necessity of maintaining secrecy... which meant they needed to be somewhat careful even within the Room of Requirement. Bryan and Dylan already knew about them, the latter as a result of a moment of carelessness and an embrace shared in the main room. And so, with a more pronounced smirk crossing her features, she withdrew her hand and turned to walk away. [blue]"Take care to close the door behind you,"[/blue] she called over her shoulder, using quite a bit of willpower not to turn back around and embrace him.

Kerridon could see that her eyes were closed, and for now he was content to simply watch. It was rare to see her with such a peaceful expression and calm emanating from her... it even helped relax his own normally tense muscles, although not enough that he wasn't alert as to what was going on around him. He was very aware that even being found hovering at the door to the Elemental Room of Wind could prove fatal in this task of keeping their relationship secret. The moment anything or anyone entered the room his back was currently to, he would have already stepped through the door and had it closed behind him. Now, though, it was empty and so he was free to enter whenever he chose.
He found the choice of timing taken away from him when D'rorah's eyes suddenly flashed open, betraying what looked almost looked like surprise as she locked eyes with him. Eventually her shocked expression – although it was hardly visible – turned into a smile and she rose, coming towards him. He did not respond to her teasing, instead choosing to let his own smile widen as her fingers rested on the side of his face. He brought a hand up to rest lightly on hers, sensing a little uncertainty and wanting to reassure as much as he could while they were standing in the doorway.
He allowed his hand to drop back down as she pulled away, his face regaining a more neutral expression as she smirked at him and turned, beginning to walk away. He did as she had asked, shutting the door and ensuring that it would not slip open again before twisting his head to gaze at her again. [blue]"Any further requests?"[/blue] he asked, his voice the epitome of politeness and his face still expressionless.

D'rorah felt her heart skip a beat as Kerridon's hand came to rest upon her own. A rush of goosebumps fanned out across her the back of her hand and up her arm at his touch.
She heard the door close behind her and turned in time to see Kerridon as he asked if there were further requests. She paused for several beats, watching his neutral expression and smiling in response. She had gone from one extreme to the other... there was Dylan, who had always been so pronounced in his emotions and who had rarely attempted to hide anything from her. And now there was Kerridon, who was as expressionless as D'rorah herself, perhaps more so. It was a study in opposites.
But thinking of that brought back to mind her current dilemma, and she didn't want to think of that at the moment, not now that she finally had Kerridon in front of her after what felt like an interminable wait. She was sure of what she needed at that moment, and it had to do with the release that would come with being in Kerridon's arms.
[blue]"There is one more thing I desire..."[/blue] she spoke slowly, her eyes never leaving his. Her voice was low and calm, masking her anticipation and the relief she felt just at being able to allow her thoughts to be free for the time being. [blue]"I will understand if you think it too much trouble..."[/blue] She consciously shifted her weight from one foot to the next, waiting a beat to increase the anticipation of the moment. [blue]"But might I trouble you to help me make reality the kiss I have been anticipating every morning as I have waited here in this room since our return?"[/blue] She watched him expectantly, though her question had been stated as casually as she might have asked him to hand her a book from a library shelf.

Kerridon stayed at the doorway as he waited for a reply from D'rorah, watching as she turned to face him. As much as he wanted to smile at her, he resisted and instead kept his expression blank. He knew as well as she that the need for secrecy was no laughing matter, but her earlier smirk and teasing had brought out a side of him that rarely emerged, and he had no intention of moving from where he was currently standing unless she requested it. It was certainly out of character for him, but it did show just how much he trusted D'rorah – the only person he had ever teased before was his younger sister, if not quite in the same way.
He did notice a flicker of something cross her face as she watched him... something that looked more serious than he might have liked. But she passed over it soon enough and began to speak, dragging out what she was saying and hiding her own expression behind a mask of calm. His eyes locked on hers as she talked, just waiting for the request to finally be voiced so he could bridge the gap between them right now.
Fortunately, it seemed D'rorah had no plans to allow his teasing to continue, if her words were any indicator. He gave her a smile completely devoid of any of his previous humour and turned fully around, stepping towards her. His hand rose as he approached her, hooking around the back of her head and pressing his lips to hers, kissing her softly. His lips lingered for a few moments before he drew back, keeping his face close to hers. [blue]"Will that suffice?"[/blue] he inquired, this time unable to completely prevent the smirk rising on his face. It turned into a genuine smile soon enough as the hand on her neck moved around to her cheek, not bothering to wait for an answer before leaning in again for another kiss, this time not pulling away quite so quickly.

The smile she recieved in response to her request only caused her own face to light up in return. Though, her facial expression had little time to form before she felt his hand hook around the back of her neck, bringing her lips to his. Her heart raced and she felt short of breath already, as though she were at the end of a sprint with Sam during a morning training session. She could hardly catch her breath as he pulled back, asking whether his kiss was sufficient. Her chest rose slightly as she attempted to inhale and catch her breath, but before she could even answer, his lips found his way to hers again.
She followed after him for a moment when he finally pulled away, lingering in his presence for as long as she could. [blue]"I suppose I would judge that adequate,"[/blue] she replied quietly, a smirk rising to her features and quickly transforming into a smile. [blue]"Though, I have always been known to be rather reserved with praise."[/blue] She grasped his free hand, interlocking her fingers with his and turning to lead the way back to the willow tree. She had forgotten all about the icy chill of her own body, and thought nothing of her hold on his hand, her thumb rubbing back and forth lightly over the back of his thumb as they walked before she released his hand and took her seat, gesturing for him to take a seat with her.
[blue]"I wonder if you would be interested to know just how distracting you can be... even when you are nowhere near,"[/blue] she baited, leaning over agianst his shoulder. She grasped the hand nearest her and pulled it into her lap, allowing her fingertips to play lightly over the back of his hand, tripping delicately over his knuckles. [blue]"Once I am finally in this room and able to think as I please, I seem to have some difficulty focusing on my meditation."[/blue] She turned her face, trying to catch his eyes with her own. She hated that thoughts of her current dilemma chose this moment to invade her thinking... but she knew it would have to come up at some time or another. Likely, Kerridon would have already seen her talking with Dylan, obviously no longer avoiding him or afraid. Attempting to push the thoughts from her mind so she could simply enjoy this rare moment of time together, she pressed her cool lips to his cheek and kissed him lightly. [blue]"Any interesting discoveries over the past week?"[/blue] she queried, interested in hearing about his days, as she was forced to constantly ignore him, as well as curious to see whether there had been any interesting information that might help the Lightfighters that had come up recently.

The smile Kerridon saw on D'rorah's face put aside any worries he might have had at the moment regarding Dylan or the frequent, long gaps between seeing her and speaking to her that were making him more and more irritable of late. It wasn't particularly visible to anyone unless they were watching out for it, but if someone was making a noise while he was trying to study he might leave rather more abrubtly or quickly than he would normally. Nothing too major, but it was unusual for him to have so little patience with those around him... he thought he had got used to the loud, frantic Hogwarts life by this point.
He smirked again at her reply, following as she led the way towards the tree. [blue]"Yes, certainly reserved with praise... I would have thought that merited more than an 'adequate'."[/blue] The chill of her skin barely bothered him, so used was he to the Shadow Realm's perpetual coldness by now. It wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't so uncomfortable he had to pull away either – not that he would have wanted to do so even if it was freezing. He just enjoyed the feel of being close to her for this short time.
He sat as she directed, turning his head towards her as she leaned against his shoulder and moving the arm she didn't have a hold of to wrap gently around her waist. [blue]"I apologise for being such a distraction. It is truly not intentional,"[/blue] he assured her, a hint of a smirk visible at the corners of his lips. As he caught her eyes he saw something not entirely positive in her expression... a sign of worry. He closed his eyes as she kissed his cheek, wondering whether or not he should mention it. But then, he had already learnt that facing things head on with D'rorah was the best method to take, rather than leaving them hang unspoken in the air between them. That tended to lead to misunderstandings... [blue]"I see you have overcome your dislike of Mister Cooper,"[/blue] he said quietly, reopening his eyes and raising them slowly to meet hers.

D'rorah smiled slightly at Kerridon's apology. [blue]"By all means, I sincerely wish that you will continue to distract me, and will do so quite often,"[/blue] she replied quietly. [blue]"Though, I might also fervently wish you might be able to do so in person with greater frequency than we are able to manage at present."[/blue]
She caught recognition in his eyes as they caught her own and suspected that he had seen her moment of worry and contemplation over the dilemma she currently faced. She wondered what he was thinking when he closed his eyes as she kissed his cheek lightly.
She seemed to receive a granting of that wish a moment later when he opened his eyes and asked about Dylan himself. Perhaps he had been reading her mind as well... or perhaps it was simply something he had pondered himself. She paused a beat after he had asked the question, feeling it hang between them. [blue]"Well, after I learned that his behavior toward me was attributed to a potion from the Shadow Realm, it would hardly be just to continue to hold him accountable for it."[/blue] She sighed quietly and placed her free hand over the hand she currently held so that she held his hand between both of her own.
Giving herself a moment to think, she brought his hand to her lips and kissed it slowly. [blue]"I must confess that I have felt some internal struggle regarding Dylan Cooper since he has regained his sensibilities. It is difficult to cause someone you have loved pain... no matter the pain he may have caused me before... and that becomes even more difficult, given that it seems his actions were completely unintentional. Though... well, how does one even begin to separate out whether the potion was the sole cause of the feelings or not."[/blue] She frowned and couldn't keep the sadness from her eyes before pushing the emotions away. [blue]"And here I am, doing exactly that I intended not to do if I saw you this morning... think about my difficulties with Dylan Cooper..."[/blue] she trailed off and lifted her eyes until they met Kerridon's.

Kerridon waited anxiously during the slight pause between his question and D'rorah's answer, wondering exactly how she was going to respond to it. He didn't want her to forgive the boy, but it seemed that it was too late for that. At least if she knew the truth about the potion and was still here with him now, that seemed positive for him. He nodded slightly at her justification, although he didn't quite meet her eyes. He had mentioned that it was probably the potion causing it before but it hadn't seemed to make much difference then – apparently coming from Dylan it had more of an effect. Of course, when he had mentioned it he had not been certain whereas upon telling the boy he had known.
He looked up again with a sober expression as she kissed his hand and began to speak again, listening intently to what she was saying so there was no chance of him misunderstanding. He wanted to be very sure on D'rorah's feelings when it came to Dylan. [blue]"I believe it was more mental weakness rather than harbouring such thoughts as he displayed while under the control of the potion that made him more susceptible to it,"[/blue] he said, loathe to make him seem any less guilty for his actions but not wanting to deceive D'rorah and have her discover it at a later date – that would certainly cause problems he didn't wish to face.
He saw the sadness in her eyes again as he looked down at her and felt the stirrings of that uncomfortable emotion he'd come to know as guilt inside him. [blue]"I am sorry. I would not have brought it up had I known,"[/blue] he apologised, even while sure it was best to get it out of the way at the beginning rather than have it linger.

D'rorah noticed that Kerridon didn't quite meet her eyes when he nodded in response to her answer about Dylan. His next response, that he believed Dylan was more a victim of mental weakness than of harbouring ill thoughts, earned an arched eyebrow from D'rorah. [blue]"Certainly, he was never adept at concealing or exerting any considerable control over his emotions,"[/blue] she admitted. [blue]"It was...interesting... to be around someone who was always so open,"[/blue] she added, trailing off slightly. [blue]"I was wholly unaccustomed to it. Typically, expressive emotions were something I sought to exploit to my own advantage."[/blue]
She smiled softly at his apology, reaching up a hand to his cheek. [blue]"You have nothing to apologize for. I understand your concern."[/blue] She contemplated him for a moment, her eyes searching his face as her fingertips traced across his cheek. [blue]"I would be dishonest if I claimed to feel no conflicting emotion upon his return,"[/blue] she replied quietly. [blue]"As I said before, it is difficult to know I am the source of his pain now that he has regained his sensibilities. However... I moved on after the abuse started. It was necessary to do so in order to heal."[/blue]
She lifted her face slightly closer to Kerridon's, meeting his eyes with a quiet smile. [blue]"You and I are a much more logical match in any case... and, it just so happens, Kerridon Paradox, that I have decided that I love you."[/blue] She kissed his cheek lightly. [blue]"And I would be quite happy to see that you did not allow yourself any guilt or remorse over the current circumstance. Does Dylan Cooper really bother you so?"[/blue] She lifted her lips to his own and kissed him softly, allowing the hand that rested on his cheek to trail backwards into his hair. She pulled back after a moment, resting against him quietly. [blue]"How long will you be able to stay this morning?"[/blue] she asked, wondering whether this rare encounter would end all too soon.

Kerridon raised an eyebrow slightly at the mention of Dylan's inability to control his emotions, having seen it all too well for himself. Had he been a little better at keeping a secret D'rorah might never have been put through all that unnecessary pain he had caused her. And now she had this new "dilemma" of sorts to make things even harder – why couldn't the boy just leave her alone? Did he not realise how much he had hurt her? It would probably have been better if he had never admitted that the potion was the course; if he had lied and told the younger Ravenclaw that it was totally him. Neither D'rorah nor Dylan would ever have known, although Dylan might have suspected...
He wasn't entirely sure why he hadn't done just that. His reasoning at the time had been making sure D'rorah knew all the facts and still chose him. But now his worrying made it seem not quite worth it. He hadn't ever been in such a situation before, but not wanting to lose D'rorah was stirring some odd emotions in him. There was also the matter that he didn't want her hurt again, and his opinion, however biased it may be, was that Dylan would do such a thing whether intentionally or not.
He gave her a small smile in return when she assured him that they were the more logical couple, although his mind still told him that from everything he had picked up from the school and his parents told him that such things generally weren't based on logic. His parents had been a disastrous, totally illogical couple, yet they had still ended up married and with children even if it hadn't ended well in the end. About to reply to her question, he paused as she raised her lips to his and ended up not answering despite the answer already formed in his head... [blue]Yes[/blue]. He sighed quietly as she pulled back before answering her second question. [blue]"I have a lesson next,"[/blue] he admitted, wishing he could stay for longer.

Kerridon's reponse seemed less than enthusiastic when she stated they were the more logical couple and that she loved him. It seemed clear that he was bothered by her easy acceptance of Dylan back into her life, though she was certain he would never directly say so. The tension made perfect sense, given everything that had happened.
Sadness flashed in her eyes for a moment as he sighed when she pulled back from the kiss. What should have been a happy morning now that they were able to share a rare moment together was turning out rather lackluster. Even now that things were somewhat back to normal, it seemed what the Mage had done to Dylan was still finding ways to mess with D'rorah's days. Of course, causing her difficulty had no doubt been the Mage's intent. As though on cue, she trembled slightly as a chill ripped through her body. Certainly, a thorough job had been done of attacking D'rorah's sources of strength and willpower by the Mage in attempts to corrupt her or to simply be rid of her. She tightened her hold on Kerridon's hand slightly, as though using him to anchor herself in an unsteady sea.
[blue]"I have several hours before I must be anywhere,"[/blue] she replied quietly, resuming the slow tracing of her fingers along the back of Kerridon's hand. [blue]"I..."[/blue] she trailed off, the question feeling foolish before it was even voiced. It seemed silly and sentimental to someone who was accustomed to playing emotions close to the chest and not revealing one's hand too readily, but she was genuinely interested. Working past the odd sentimentality of the question, she began again. [blue]"I was... well, actually, am wondering."[/blue] She brought his hand to her lips and kissed it softly. [blue]"What I mean to say is.... you are happy, are you not?"[/blue] she managed finally, thinking the questioned sounded even more silly and sentimental for all of her fumbling of it. D'rorah wasn't accustomed to having any difficulty with words, but delving into the realm of emotion had always taken a bit more effort than other things she put her mind to. [blue]"I am,"[/blue] she added, wanting to ensure he understood that she wasn't trying to express her own unhappiness. [blue]"In fact, I believe I am much happier than I have any right to be, given the fact that the world seems to be falling down all around us."[/blue]
She waited quietly for an answer, her hands still lightly worrying over his own as she braced herself internally just in case the answer she received wasn't what she hoped for. Kerridon seemed distant this morning, and she couldn't help but attribute that to Dylan's return.

Kerridon cursed internally at his sudden lack of faith in logic. It was all he had ever needed before, so why was it proving so difficult now? Probably because emotions were involved, and from what he could work out so far, emotions were messy. Which was why he preferred logic. If he had ignored what he had felt when D'rorah first kissed him then he wouldn't be in this complicated position now. But no... he didn't wish that. D'rorah was the best thing in his life right now. He didn't want to push her away with his doubt. However well he might normally be able to hide what he felt, she was all too used to hiding her own emotions to allow him to hide too much from her.
He noticed the sadness in her eyes immediately and felt regret for not schooling his face and response better. As she shivered he wrapped his arms tighter around her, placing a soft kiss on her neck and resting his chin lightly on her shoulder, also noticing her hold on his hand tightening. He listened curiously as she began to speak, turning his head slightly so he could see her face. He frowned ever so slightly as she finally voiced the question, not quite understanding where it had come from.
Although answering it required examining his own emotions, not something he usually enjoyed. To his slight surprise, he found that he was happy... of course, there were bleak spots as always, but they weren't quite so prominent as normal. [blue]"Yes, I am happy with you,"[/blue] he replied after a slight pause, adding on the slight qualifier of why he was happy. Staying away from her wasn't something that made him happy, but it did always seem worth it when he eventually got to see her and speak with her like on this occasion. He smiled slightly when she stated that she too was happy, kissing her neck softly again and dreading the time that was soon approaching when he would have to leave.

She smiled slightly as Kerridon replied he was happy, feeling internally relieved at the statement. As his lips brushed her neck, she took a deep breath, her eyes slipping shut as she rested more firmly against him. [blue]"I had some concern that, with Mister Cooper's return, you would no longer be... interested,"[/blue] she murmured quietly against his skin. She felt like she had to offer at least some sort of justificatin for the odd question that she had voiced a moment ago.
She didn't know why she had thought that, but somehow it had seemed a valid concern. She had been right all along... emotions made life far too complicated. She briefly wondered if she wouldn't be happier if she had just avoided emotional entanglements of any sort. The thought, however, was banished almost as quickly as it had appeared. She couldn't imagine finding the drive to carry on in this war any longer without someone to support and to be supported by. And Kerridon made her feel complete. She couldn't give that up now.
Even the need to find some justice for her parents would have only carried her so far in this war... well, perhaps that wasn't true. But the emotional connections she had developed had been what had allowed her to survive and resist the attempts of the Mage to corrupt her. She pulled back slightly to gaze into his eyes, content at the moment just to enjoy the sight of them. They were grey, like her own... too many people had described them as cold, lacking in emotion. To her, it was calm and stable... grey eyes reminded her of wisdom which lead to learning and books. As she watched, her breathing slowed and stopped, as though she could preserve the rare moment of happiness and peace by refusing to move forward through time.
