Family Interactions
An owl had flown in through the kitchen window that morning. The two sisters had been thrilled at first, never having seen such activity by what they both considered to be a wild animal. The parchment that landed exactly in her lap was immediately snatched away by her mother, while her father swiftly got to shooing the nocturnal creature out of the house. The two girls had been sent to their room while her parents read and reread the ink words on the parchment letter, discussing in hushed whispers what Susan could only imagine. A million obscure responses had come to her on that day in explanation. She found no reason to be punished in any of these explanations, but couldn’t help but wonder.Height
She frowned quietly on her bed, the exhilaration from the owl’s visit draining obviously. The harsh taunting from Andrea only added to the uncomfortable contents of whatever the letter beheld. Each sitting on her own bed on opposite sides of the shared room, it was a wonder Susan hadn’t stood up to sock her sister in the face. The little girl claimed that Susan was going to be taken away, and that she was bad. Andrea called her a witch.
Susan in return ignored the comment. All the while she gave everything she had not to cry in front of her little sister, which made it all the more worse when her father finally entered the came in to confirm just that with his calm and uncaring disposition, while her mother peered cautiously over his shoulder, unsure of her feelings for her daughter now. She sobbed once, almost imperceptibly, before bolting from the room. Her future was ruined it seemed. How much easier it would have been to go on to middle school and then high school like all of her friends had planned to do, while she had to move across the world and learn what she had be taught was just a joke, a trick: magic.
Tall like both of her parents, Susan stands at five feet and eight inches. Slightly shorter than her father and only taller than her mother by a few small inches, Susan fits perfectly into the family.
Weight
At 135 pounds Susan isn’t extremely thin, but likes to consider herself at a healthy place and manages to maintain a fairly healthy body image.
Hair Color
Like her father, Susan has thick mahogany brown hair. She usually keeps it long and layered, so that it’s an easy fix and when she doesn’t feel like dealing with it an up-do does the trick. For special occasions, she’s quite partial to curls as well as perfecting her side-swept bangs.
Eye Color
Again like her father, Susan has pale blue eyes. Her almond shaped eyes fit nicely on her face, giving her sight well enough to meet her needs. She wore glasses for a time when she was younger, but soon gave them up as an unnecessary bother.
Skin Color
Susan is Caucasian, but like her mother who has dark hair and tans easily, Susan does as well. Without trying, her skin darkens significantly over the summer seasons and remains slightly olive toned throughout the cooler months.
Clothing style
Susan prefers to wear bold colors. Brand names have never been too popular in her closet, but a few designer items are welcomed anytime. Casual on most days, Susan loves to dress up for the occasions the school tends to supply seasonally.
Accessories
She has a few antique jewelry pieces her grandmother gave to her in her will that she wears with pride. She chooses simple earrings and interesting necklaces most of the time, nothing too baroque.
Other
Susan always has her toes and nails painted, a habit she developed at a young age. She has few noticeable scars, but large dimples on both sides of her face that appear with her smile.
Paragraph Format
Susan Anne Matthews was an ordinary girl. Seemingly insignificant with her plain brown hair and blue eyes, she is actually quite striking when she chooses to care. Before filling out, she was almost gangly as she developed her height at a young age. Rather than hide, shrinking in embarrassment at her long legs, Susan used this to her advantage in sports, playing with relish and keeping her in shape. Susan’s never really considered herself exceptionally pretty, but she is happy with the way she is. She purposely had her straight brown hair cut long with layers for the ease in styling. While of course she likes to look nice, it has never been one of her main priorities. She has, however, taken an interest in make up, developing her ability to successfully pronounce her eyes, turning them into more than just the pale windows to the world and into her own favorite feature.
While she is Caucasian, her American Indian and German heritage allows Susan to tan rather easily, her hair lightening in the warm months, as she spends more and more time out doors. In all seasons, Susan chooses to wear clean crisp colors, preferably bright rather than muted ones. She often tries to mix and match items that wouldn’t normally seem to go together. In her experiments she also is quite partial to nail polish. Any color is fine, as long as they are painted. In the way of fashion statements, on the opposite end of the spectrum, she also sometimes wears the not so bold jewelry items her grandmother left for her. Andrea received the porcelain doll set and Susan, the oldest was given several earrings, necklaces, and a few rings that remain very special to her. A fairly conscientious girl, Susan has no really noticeable scars, but when she smiles, a predominant dimple appears on each side of her happy face.
Personality
Susan, while holding strong beliefs of her own, likes to see that everyone is happy. At times she will even censor herself on small things to see that no one is angry at her. She doesn’t usually try to start arguments, but if it calls for it, Susan can hold her own. Although she usually keeps to herself about it, her opinions are strong, and one isn’t wise to doubt she will back down easily.
While she readily stands up for herself, when the time calls for it, she also keeps up with her friends as well. Mess with a friend of Susan’s and beware. Very few cases will keep Susan from speaking her mind about the issue. She’s relatively easy to befriend, only a flaw when those with unkind intentions are able to take advantage of her.
Like all in a way, Susan has a habit of stretching the truth; small white lies here and there are a favorite of hers. A subconscious occurrence, that tends to protect her from speaking about the uncomfortable family issues she has at home and make present occurrences seem more exciting and adventurous to those willing to listen.
History
In a small city off the east coast of the United States, little Susan Anne Matthews was born one October afternoon. Susan had entered a happy muggle family, with her mother and her father and two years later, they would be joined by another child, Andrea. Susan however, was a generally happy baby, only getting in to mischief in the attempt to obtain the attention of her parents over little Andrea. In the eyes of Susan, of course the distribution of love was distorted, as the baby of the family was usually attended to first. Here a small discord between Susan and Andrea formed at the start. Susan always found it difficult to get along with the little sister.
The two girls enjoyed a steady childhood, attending pre and elementary school like all the other children in the area. Like all the families of the area, they often enjoyed trips to the beach as well as the every day walk to the park or the neighborhood pool. While no close family lived nearby, the Matthews family did receive the company of their grandmother and Aunt Kristy at most every significant holiday. Susan especially appreciated these visits as Aunt Kristy was always able to provide the attention that her parents usually decided to place upon Andrea first before herself.
The girls’ grandmother and Aunt Kristy lived across the ocean in the United Kingdom, for reasons, not understood to Susan. She always appreciated the silly way her father’s mother always spoke to her and the interesting candies and trinkets her Aunt always brought for them on her visits. It was too soon, it seemed, that visits had to cease. As the grandmother’s heath worsened, trips were limited and at last arrangements were to be made. It was through a package in the mail that Susan received the jewelry belonging to her grandmother that she would always treasure.
The very next year came the morning that Susan received her visit from the Hogwarts owl. Her parents had been warned previously of such a happening, but nothing had been explained out right to Susan or Andrea, thus the distress upon hearing the news. Susan had never held close relationships with either of her parents and the new news made the strained ties even worse, it seemed to her. Susan was in no mood to leave her friends, what she considered her real family, behind, to attend the same school her grandmother had attended.
Andrea, it appeared had won again, winning their parents all to herself as Susan was sent to live across the ocean with Aunt Kristy in the house she used to share with their grandmother. The arrangements were made quickly and by the end of the summer, Susan was alone on an airplane with everything of value packed into some suitcases to be unloaded at the destination. That fall Susan would begin her first year at Hogwarts, the school of witchcraft and wizardry, a topic she was completely unfamiliar with, personally had no care for. All that she had left behind, all that was familiar, all of her friends had been left behind would have to be found again in order for her to feel at home at this new and strange school: a task almost too difficult to undertake at the time. Almost.
