Laine walked up the staires to the Headmistresses office, looking at her shoes as she often did when in thought. She played with the edge of her robes and then without warning was swept into the open space of the outer office foyer. She took a breath and looked up.
Knocking hesitantly on the door Laine stood patiently waiting for the headmistress to open her door. She'd made a decision.

Caira looked up from her desk as a hesitant knock sounded at her door. Waving her wand, the door slowly opened to reveal Laine.
"Oh Laine, so good of you to come. Please, please, come in, sit down."
She gestured to a tea tray that suddenly appeared on the side table. "Can I interest you in some tea? It's been a pretty hectic day for me." She smiled as she poured.
"Now then, I guess you've come with an answer about that little matter we discussed yesterday," she said cheerily. "I do hope it's a yes... I really was hoping for someone reliable for this little job."

Laine came in as the door swung open and went to the chair in front of the Headmistresses office. She sat down on one of them and pulled her robes around her so they wouldn't be hanging all over the place. She nodded and smiled politely at the offer of tea. At least there was no need to be uncomfortable, Headmistress LaPointe was all friendly ness.
Having helped herself to a cup of a soothing tea, Laine relaxed back into her chair gingerly taking a sip of the hot liquid. Laying the cup in her lap she nodded in response to the question asked. "I did come to a decision. I'd be happy to watch over their doings when I can, if I come to see them eventually, but I'd rather not get into it personally. I won't directly ask questions, just over hear what I can and let you know of anything that would seem it should be known." She explained. Personally, Laine didn't want to get involved and become a spy for those two students, so she'd just be a practical passer by, who just happened to pass by those two more than others.

Caira nodded and smiled. "Actually, that's exactly what I was hoping you would do. Anything else would be far too obvious. I just know that I could use an extra pair of eyes where those two are concerned. They have a tendency to dabble in things best avoided by students, if you know what I mean." She reached into her desk and pulled an article that D'rorah had co-published with one of her professors in America. "For example, D'rorah likes to... dabble... no no, she has done heavy research... in unforgivable curses. Not exactly an innocent pasttime, I'm sure you'll agree."
She held the artical aloft. "Not a bad read but... well, it's just not really the sort of thing I think a student should study is all. Anyway, yes, a casual observer is all I want you to be. Keep an eye on them when you can... without being too obvious. I'm sure you've noticed D'rorah's been missing lately. If it's possible, find out that she's been up to."
She leaned forward and lowered her voice to a conspiritorial whisper. "I have reason to believe she might be in league with the dementors and the dark creatures in the forest.'' She leaned back and raised her voice again. "But I'd appreciate if you'd keep that strictly to yourself."

Laine nodded in aggreement with the Headmistresses comment about the ability some students seemed to possess in the art of 'dabbling', as it were. If it wasn't ment for students there was probably a reason anyways, in Laine's opinion. "I do agree, unforgivable curses most definately shouldn't be open to students. That's something that should be kept from us, more than most things." She nodded thoughtfully. But with curiosity Laine's eyes regarded the artical held in Headmistress LaPointe's hand, an article of things that should more or less be left in the dark. Not acceptable, but interesting none the less.
When the Headmistress went on to tell Laine of her suspicions of D'rorah being in a league wih dementors and other creatures of the forest, Laine shivered with the darkness of it all. She took another thoughtfull sip of tea, finally taking her eyes off the artical back to the Headmistresses own eyes. "Of course, only for my ears." She smiled.

"Excellent dear," replied Caira sunnily. "Well then, I appreciate that you've taken the time to stop by. Do keep an eye on them for me... and I'd like to know anytime you see anything amiss with D'rorah or Alessandro." She smiled as she rose from her desk, heading towards the door.
"I can't believe we're starting the year off so early with intrigue," she remarked with a slight laugh. "Why, usually things like this don't start happening until later in the year... so much turmoil and conflict early on. No doubt about it, this will be an interesting year."
"Well Laine, I hope I'll be hearing from you again really soon. Good luck... and of course, discretion is very important. Like I said, I think your paths will cross a lot just because you're both in the same house." She smiled as she opened the door.
"Mum's the word dear, see you soon!" she bid with a sunny smile and a wink.

Laine smiled and stood up as well, heading towards the door as well and listening to the Headmistress final words. If this kind of intrigue, as it were, was beginning to stir things up this early in the year, she too wondered what would be going on the rest of the year. It would never be boring though, you could surely tell that just by looking at the events coming on so early in the term.
"You're probably right, I imagin we will see alot of each other. Should anything come up I'll be sure bring it to your attention." She nodded polietly, stepping out of the door. "Thanks for your time, have a nice day Headmistress." She smiled, taking her leave down the steps and back into the castle.
