Professor Serlaen had just finished Arithmancy class and was heading to lunch when he received his owl. It said for him to come to Headmistress LaPointe's office for 'tea' to better teacher-staff relations. He sighed, rolled his eyes with a smirk, and began walking up the many steps to the sixth floor corridor. All the way, he was wondering what it really was, though he didn't want to be disappointed if it was what she really said it was. He hoped it wasn't. He was in a rush, so he didn't bother talking to the (few) students he saw on his way up. The lesson had gone well, but it was oddly tedious do to the number of questions. Dien looked at the gargoyle. in front of the stairs. It looked at him. The door swung open, and he walked up and knocked on the wooden door. "You called for me, Caira?" he asked, as he preemptively put his hand on the handle and turned the knob.

"Come right in Dien!" she called cheerily. "I'm so glad you're here now!" She led the way over to a pair of wingback chairs by the fireplace. "Please, please, have a seat. The House Elves had outdone themselves with the sweets this time."
From the table next to her, she selected a tray with a beautiful porcelain tea service. As she poured each of them a cup of steaming black tea, she set the tray of sweets in the middle. "Now, then, how are you getting on at Hogwart's? How are all of your classes going? Tell me, I want to hear everything!" She passed Dien a cup of tea and settled back into her chair, taking a sip of her own tea. "Things have been so hectic lately that I just haven't had the time to catch up with everyone properly."

Dien came in and sat down. "Why," he said, stirring his tea with his spoon, hesitating before drinking some, "It's quite alright. Most students are moderately bright. I have a question for you, though." He paused a moment and drank his tea. The tea helped him focus a little better- the warmth soothed him. He extended his mind partly into hers, and asked, "Are you a follower of the one we call the Shadow Mage? Before he went on vacation, Professor Albion had his doubts... and I want to eliminate all doubts- either way- from my mind. I would really like to trust in our own headmistress."

Caira felt the presence in her mind and smiled slightly. "You know Dien, that's very rude," she admonished. "Why on earth would Phoenix suggest such a thing anyway? I mean, the very idea is absolutely absurd. I may as well as ask whether you're working for the Shadow Mage." She took a sip of her tea and leaned back in her chair.
"Mordred told me about the problem with the Shadows and this Mage leader of theirs. I honestly don't think there can be any merit to his wild stories. I mean, I know there are Shadows in the fores, but I simply can't believe that the Mage itself has come to Hogwart's. We're so well-protected against things like that."
She selected a chocolate tart from the tray of sweets. "I guess that explains why some of the staff don't seem to trust me... if rumors like that are going around. I thought it might have been something I had done or some general dissatisfaction with the working conditions here... but you all actually think I might be working with the Shadows in the forest?" she asked, her voice incredulous.

Dien arched an eyebrow. "Yes, right." He frowned as he selected a chocolate-covered cherry from the expansive tray, and popped it into his mouth. He withdrew himself from her mind. He couldn't tell if it was a lie or a truth- she was hard to decipher. He'd try to remember the patterns later on and see it... "Well, then, anything else you wanted to know? Report on how well students are doing? Concerns with students who attack professors? Opinion on why you sent away Professor Kade without even having a moment of sorrow?" He was beginning to get even more suspicious about her as he talked, adding a bit of an angered tang to the word 'sorrow'. He jutted out his jaw a bit and narrowed his eyes.

"Students who attack professors?" parroted Caira, a look of concern blossoming across her face. "What in the world are you talking about? I haven't heard about any incidents here. And Professor Kade left because we both agreed that he wasn't quite working out as a teacher. I'm afraid he's too much the old auror... he treated his students like they were some sort of army. Don't forget, Dien, we already had that one boy die this year. I'm not looking to have any others go that way." A sad look came into her eyes as she said it. "His parents were absolutely devastated. There's nothing worse than having to tell a mother that her son has died."
She shook her head, as if it dispel her own sorrow, and took a sip of her tea. "Well, tell me more about what you mentioned. You say there have been students attacking professors?"

((Sorry for the long wait.)) Dien faked a smile. "Oh, nothing, nothing." He rolled his eyes. After swiveling around the spoon in his tea, he pulled out of his chair and walked out of the room. He continued on with his daily business, ever more angered at Headmistress LaPointe's insolence and fake innocence. He sighed to himself as he went down to the commons area to have some tea of which he wasn't worried it would kill him.

Caira's eyes narrowed as Dien made his hasty exit. She wasn't sure how anyone intended for her to help keep discipline and do her job when no one would tell her anything. She started to follow after him, but decided not to. Obviously, he had some sort of personal problem with her. He hadn't taken the first sip of his tea, she noted. She shrugged it off, deciding to keep any eye on his actions from this point forward. If he continued to act insolently, he would simply be dismissed.
