Gat was swimming in the lake. It was cold and raining but Gat didn't care. He enjoyed the soft feeling of weightlessness while gliding through the water. He had a smile etched on his features as he approached the surface. When his head broke the surface of the water, his now flattened hair flicked behind his head. He swam to the edge of the lake, rose from the water, and moved toward the tree. He lowered himself down against it, ignoring the sharp pains in his back as it scraped across the rough surface. He was wearing shorts only and was laying against the tree. In minutes, even though it was raining he fell asleep. In the time he was asleep the rain had stopped and the clouds removed. The sun was beating down on the still slightly wet grass. Gat was laying there in a peaceful dreamless sleep.

Kerridon watched as the Slytherin swam in the lake, having recognised the boy to be Gat Soldier, another of the Shadow Mage's spies at Hogwarts. He had met Tawny the other night but it only seemed fair to meet both of his colleagues before starting his task in earnest. The rain pouring down bounced off a thin protective shield he had created earlier.
He waited five minutes when Gat removed himself from the water and leant against a tree by the side of the lake. Apparently he had fallen asleep, because he made no movement after that. Kerridon approached slowly, making sure as he walked that no one else in the vicinity was going to interrupt them or even hear them talking.
"Mister Soldier?" he said quietly, using a spell to wake the boy up. The rain had stopped and the sun was now beating down. That was unfortunate; more students would start to emerge from the castle soon, to take advantage of the rare autumn sun. "Muffliato," he murmured, not bothering to take out his wand. No one not under the radius of the tree would be able to hear a word said.

[glow=red,2,300]"Mister Soldier?"[/glow]
Gat awoke but showed no signs of it. First he listened. He could hear the movement of the grass everywhere except one exact spot. He listened for a voice and got one.
[glow=red,2,300]"Muffliato,"[/glow]
It was not a voice he recognized. He could feel the sun beating down on his bare chest. He got ready for battle. In his mind he pictured what he should do. His eyes were still closed. Without any warning he spun flicking his leg out, tripping the person over onto their back. Gat stood quickly, drawing his wand and holding it to the boy's neck.
"What do you want?" He demanded of him. The boy did not even have his wand out. 'Foolish boy.' Gat thought to himself. He looked about Gat's age but looked like he had a slight bit more experience. Gat stepped back as he realized his mistake. In the boy's eyes he could see a life of deaths and deception. This boy was not ordinary but most likely worked for the Mage. Gat's father had taught him to tell someones life by the story in their eyes. Gat reached down a hand to help him up. Though he was not sure how he would take it. Judging from those eyes he would most likely attack back.

Kerridon knew that Gat had woken up - after all, he had used the awakening spell - but left it to the Slytherin to decide what to do next. Without warning, the boy spun and knocked his legs under him. He had no time to react, especially as he was crouching down in an awkward position, and fell onto his back, making sure he landed correctly so as not to hurt himself. This boy was fast, he would admit that. Although it was as much his own fault for distracting himself with the muffliato charm.
"What do you want?"
With the boy pointing a wand at his neck, Kerridon raised an arm as if to protect himself. In actuality, he was discreetly taking aim. Gat stepped back, perhaps realising his mistake, but you had to show these people who was boss. If he didn't do this know, the Slytherin would likely think he was the stronger.
"Expelliarmus," he said quietly. It was hardly a dark spell, but muffliato only stopped people hearing, not seeing. Someone was going to notice if Gat started writhing on the floor with pain. However, he said it with enough force that he flew backwards into the tree, and Kerridon flipped to his feet and caught his wand easily. "Do not be as presumptious as to attack me again, Gat Soldier."
He dropped the wand onto the grass at his feet and left the boy to get up again on his own.
"I simply want to warn you that, although we may serve similar goals, I will complete mine in my own way, and my own time. You will not interrupt me, or accuse me of doing anything the Mage would not approve of. Trust me when I say that she knows what I am planning. I will not be happy also if you attempt to approach me in front of certain people. You have been less than subtle in proclaiming your allegiances. I wish to be more cautious."

[glow=red,2,300]"Expelliarmus,"[/glow]
Gat barely heard him say it before he was flung directly into the tree. He got ready for the impact. When his already scraped bare back scraped against the tree once more, he slightly winced in pain.
[glow=red,2,300]"Do not be as presumptious as to attack me again, Gat Soldier."[/glow]
He was once again sited up against the tree. He made no move to attack as when he did when he was summing up his opponents ability. He watched Kerridon, watching, waiting.
[glow=red,2,300]"I simply want to warn you that, although we may serve similar goals, I will complete mine in my own way, and my own time. You will not interrupt me, or accuse me of doing anything the Mage would not approve of. Trust me when I say that she knows what I am planning. I will not be happy also if you attempt to approach me in front of certain people. You have been less than subtle in proclaiming your allegiances. I wish to be more cautious."[/glow]
Gat smiled in response.
"Do you really think I am that sort of person? The person who has the same goal as I. I do not care the way which you will do it in. It is none of my concern. My side on the war has been covered, though I thought that there be no need any more as my mind has been invaded by the light fighters already. Are you saying otherwise?" Gat asked him. He was glad to know that someone else was facing the same cause as he.
"I know who you do not want me to approach you in front of. And if you will let me I wish to help you in your attempts by pretending to become your enemy in front of those light fighters." Gat's smile disappeared. He stood up and using his Elemental Master of water power, he called his wand to him. The wand had ice frozen around the base. He extended his hand outwards to shake his hand as if meeting someone for the first time.
"Forgive me for my previous action. I am Gat, and who might you be?" Gat asked, once again as if it was for the first time.

“How should I be expected to know what kind of person you are? All I know of you is that we are on the same side. I do not know your trustworthiness, or how you treat others like me. I am just making sure all bases are covered,” Kerridon replied icily. He did not like this Slytherin, even if they did have the same goals. He didn’t know why he didn’t like him; it was just a gut instinct.
"I know who you do not want me to approach you in front of. And if you will let me I wish to help you in your attempts by pretending to become your enemy in front of those light fighters."
“I would appreciate it,” Kerridon said coolly. Although he didn’t want to put any reliance on Gat Soldier, it would indeed be useful to appear as Gat’s enemy. After all, what was that old saying? My enemy’s enemy is my friend. And it would not be too hard to appear to hate his colleague. It would be quite enjoyable, really. The only thing that might be difficult would be to not get carried away. The lightfighters would expect Gat to use dark spells. Seeing himself do such magic, however, would be extremely counterproductive in gaining their trust.
He watched with raised eyebrows as Gat used his elemental magic to regain his wand. It was the first time he had seen it used and, as much as he hated to admit it, such magic was impressive. Such a shame that it could not be taught to another.

[glow=red,2,300]“How should I be expected to know what kind of person you are? All I know of you is that we are on the same side. I do not know your trustworthiness, or how you treat others like me. I am just making sure all bases are covered,”[/glow] Gat had no care whatsoever how this person thought of him. But Gat would do anything to acheive his goals. Gat's main problem in life was that he had no care for anything other then the will of his Mistress and the one who he was sworn to by prearranged marriage. Other then this he had no care for himself nor others. Kerridon may not have noticed but at that moment, his eyes flashed green as they often did. No one knew why, nor how but they did.
[glow=red,2,300]“I would appreciate it,”[/glow]
Gat was slightly glad that he could help. He had no tasks for the time being, and so was getting bored and slightly restless. But this new role play would be enjoyable for Gat. It would be harder to pretend to be an enemy rather then actually become one. Gat would have to think about how to do it.
[glow=red,2,300]"I am Kerridon Paradox, 6th year Ravenclaw. And you?"[/glow]
"Gat Soldier, 6th year Slytherin." Gat said before drifting off into a state of deep thought.
"So, I don't mean to be nosy, but how did you happen to come across our Mistress?" Gat asked him with a great sense of interest. Gat's story wasn't interesting. He was born into a line of dark wizards. That was pretty much it.

Kerridon did indeed notice Gat’s eyes flash green, and wondered what the significance was. It had to mean something; eyes that glowed were not exactly a normal feature of human development, unless you happened to be a metamorphmagus.
"So, I don't mean to be nosy, but how did you happen to come across our Mistress?" [/color]
As much as he didn’t want to discuss that topic with this boy, Kerridon knew that to avoid the topic or refuse to answer would cause Gat to become even more curious. Better to satisfy his interest by telling half the truth.
“My father served her. When my mother went missing he reclaimed custody of me and introduced me to her servitude. I took to it well.” All was true. What he missed out was the fact that his father was also missing now, and was dead according to the Mage. Not only that, but he had reclaimed custody of Kerridon’s little sister as well, who hadn’t taken to the training at all. Now she was dead. No, don’t think about her. He also “forgot” to mention that his mother had been an auror who had gone missing while hunting dementors and shadows. Yes, he had missed out rather a lot, but there was no reason for Gat to know any more of his past than he chose to explain.
“And you? A similar situation of family ties? Or something else?”

Gat listened intently to that somewhat short explanation. He could tell that it was cut short though but wanted to know how much Kerridon trusted him. Apparently not as much as he'd hoped.
[glow=red,2,300]“And you? A similar situation of family ties? Or something else?”[/glow]
Other then Kerridon, Gat had no problem sharing his story whatsoever.
"I am bound to her through ancestry. My ancestors swore to help her in her goal. To this day, the Soldier family is still fulfilling it's purpose." Gat did leave out a part though. About the Auror attempting to murder all of his family. Gat did not know if Kerridon would help the Auror, warn Gat about it's whereabouts or simply ignore it all together. The risk was too great. Gat was slightly bored and decided to chat with this boy further.
"Where abouts are you from?" Gat asked him. He could not quite place the boy's accent.
(ooc: Um...Gat's eyes didn't change colour, they just sort of glowed, or got brighter.....emitted light. And whats a metamorphmagus?)

((Oh whoops, my bad. I'll edit. I didn't realise his eyes were already green, it confused me! *grins sheepishly* A metamorphmagus is what Tonks is in canon; someone born with the ability to change their appearance at will.))
Kerridon nodded, sensing that Gat had also not told him the full story. Still, fair is fair. He hadn’t revealed everything either. It was interesting to know, even if it was only a suspicion, that some of his colleagues had secrets too.
"Where abouts are you from?"
“I lived for four years on the Isle of Man, then Bodmin Moor for six years, the Lake District for five, and now I am living with my godmother in Bristol.” He grinned slightly at that. “Even I have trouble working out what kind of accent I possess. It seems to change. I think it is mostly upper class English, though occasionally something else will slip through. Where are you from? Anywhere exotic, or are you born-and-bred English, like me?” Kerridon thought he could tell where Gat was from because of the boy’s accent, but it was only polite to ask. Besides, he might be wrong. You never know, stranger things have happened, he thought to himself, amused. He was succinctly aware that Gat was the one asking all the questions, and wondered what questions he could ask instead of simply regurgitating Gat’s.

"Naa, I was born on the other side of this world. A country called New Zealand. It does not seem to be a very well known place around here. It's a lot smaller then here and it is surrounded by ocean. I don't think there is anywhere you can go within the country where you cannot see the ocean. Different here though...." Gat trailed off. He missed being in his home country. The sun glinting off the water, the clear sky. He would love to go back for a visit but had priorities. The shadow mage had to be first in line. She now controlled Gat's life. He wondered if that was why Gat's parents did not want him to come to Hogwarts.....

Kerridon nodded at Gat’s reply. He had suspected the boy was from either Australia or New Zealand, but hadn’t been sure which. He knew a little of the magical history of the country, but not much.
“Which island did you live on?” he asked politely. “North or south? Or one of the smaller islands?” Any information he could gather, whether seemingly worthless or otherwise, he viewed as useful and stored away in case he needed it for future reference. Gat seemed quite happy to talk about himself and Kerridon was equally happy to oblige. “I have never been to anywhere outside of the continent except for Egypt on one occasion but you make New Zealand sound quite delightful. Perhaps I will have to visit at some point. I intend to see New York, D’rorah’s home city, so maybe I should make a trip out of it. What is it those muggles do once they finish their schools? A gap year? I should see if our mistress has any work she needs to do abroad.”
To most people, Kerridon would appear to be thinking aloud. Indeed he was, just censoring his thoughts greatly before they reached his lips. What he would like to do in reality was to scour those countries for anything that could be of use to his research. A document in Egypt had inspired him to start it, and he was sure that other ancient texts must be scattered across the globe. Although he was almost certain that the Mage knew about his research – how could she miss it? – he wasn’t entirely certain she approved. He had never had the courage to ask, and he wasn’t going to bring up the topic when he might be ordered to stop.
((Wow, can you really not go anywhere and not see the ocean, or is that just exaggeration on Gat’s part?))

"Uh, I live on the Northern Island." Gat said, desperately trying to remember his home. It had been a while since he had been there. To Gat, it just seemed that Kerridon was thinking aloud. It did seem like a good idea though. To explore the rest of the world. To places unseen. Gat did not know why but this boy's personality seemed to inspire trust. A trait like that makes him the perfect man for this job. Gat was jealous at that. Though it was true that he would rather inspire fear. To be left alone. That trait came to him easily. Gat put his wand away.

Kerridon nodded and turned to survey the lake, keeping an eye on his companion and noting that he had put his wand away. Good. One less thing to worry about. The rain had completely stopped now, and more students were emerging to enjoy the outdoors in the last hour before curfew. If he wasn’t careful he would be caught by someone of importance in this ongoing battle, such as D’rorah or Wysteria, talking civilly to one of the Mage’s known spies. That was not a good way to inspire trust or friendship, even if they thought he didn’t know what Gat was.
“Forgive me if I take leave of your presence now, Mr Soldier. It would not be a good idea to be seen communicating civilly with you if our plans of future clashes are to succeed. Farewell.”
Turning, Kerridon released the spells surrounding them to prevent eavesdroppers and walked away briskly, as if their conversation had ended on ill terms. Hopefully, with the brief exchange of curses at the start and this abrupt ending, anyone watching would be convinced that his first experience of Gat Soldier had not been a pleasant one.
