"Many millenia ago, there were two in our realm. They were Light and Dark. Each force began to take on its own qualities and characteristics until they became conscious entities. The force of Light came to be known as Yin. The force of Darkness came to be know as Yang. As you may have already inferred, the two forces could not exist peacefully together. Yang felt that Yin was weak and wished to be the supreme power. Yin sought balance, but realized that as long as he and Yang existed in the world that peace would elude our realm. So, Yin had both of them banished from our realm, moving to a world where they could watch the drama of human life unfold."
"Yang soon found that, though he could not directly intervene in our world, he could find those who would do so for him. He chose his first Shadow Mage and endowed her with all the powers of darkness so that she might release him from his banishment. In response, Yin divided the powers of light into the five Elemental powers. For each Element, he appointed a Master and a Protector. Over time the protectors became known as Shadow Warriors because of their abilities to destroy Shadows. Their job was to protect the Elemental Masters who each guarded a fragment of Light."
"Anytime the balance begins to shift towards darkness, it is the job of the Lightfighters to bring things back within balance. There have been skirmishes, battles, and wars throughout the whole of history. The current Shadow Mage has been gathering strength for Yang for approximately four centuries now... she has managed to kill all of the preceding generations of Lightfighters, most before they even joined with their Elemental Masters or Shadow Warriors."
"We are now on the cusp of a war."
"There is reason to believe the Mage has found a way to bring Yang into this world. She has already done so in her Shadow Realm, with the result that the entire realm is decaying and is nearly uninhabitable, even for Shadows and the like. We must prevent her from bringing Yang forth into this world and must work to bring the good and evil back within balance.
If Yang takes control, the realm collapses into depression, hatred, and destruction, inevitably destroying itself until there is nothing left. If Yin takes control, though it does not want to, the realm becomes apathetic and lazy with overwhelming joy and becomes unprepared whenever any sort of darkness or conflict looms, inevitably letting destruction and the Yang to take control."
