Caz entered the old store. The stench of the store made him frown as he waved his hand in front of his nose. He read the signs for the diffrent areas of the store. Caz felt lucky. He headed towards the owls, hoping that on this visit they would have something Rare and exotic, like the sign stated outside, that on rare occasison they did. Caz noticed that the birds seemed to be a bit more quiet than usual. Must be nap time. he thought. "Hello. Anyone here?" he asked. He looked around and didn't see anyone right away.

D'rorah stepped in from the back of the shop, trying to look unperturbed by the smell of store. Honestly, she couldn't believe just how rank a shopful of owls could smell. It was past offensive, as far as she was concerned. The normal clerk owed her a rather large favor for filling in while he went out for lunch. The sound of Caz's voice had drawn her from the back office, where the smell was not quite so severe.
"Good afternoon, may I help you?" she offered politely, trying not to grimace over the smell. "My apologies, pardon me for one moment," she added hurriedly as she crossed the room to the front entrance. she flung the doors wide open and propped them before brandishing her wand and hurriedly opening the windows. Almost immediately a blessed breeze began to circulate the room, bringing in untainted air from the outside.
Even the owls, it appeared, were grateful for her intervention. Several of them ruffled their feathers and hooted dolefully. Luckily, they were all tethered to their perches, so there was little chance they might fly away. She returned to where Caz was standing with a less strained look on her face. "Yes, that is much better already. Now then, how might I be able to help you?" she asked, breathing more freely.

Caz was happy to see someone appear. He looked at the girl, who looked strangely familar. I think she goes to Hogwarts. One of those prefects. He thought, but wasn't sure he was still new around here and there were a lot of faces to remeber.
As she excused herself to open the doors, Caz was relieved, because the smell was quite awful. As she opened the doors, a breeze filled his lungs and he felt a lot better. Caz looked around and noticed that the owls began to move around and hoot. Dang even they are happy. he chuckled to himself.
"Yes, that is much better already. Now then, how might I be able to help you?" she asked, breathing more freely.
Caz nodded in aggrement. "Ummm I was looking for an Owl. Actually I was hoping that something rare would be here. I noticed the sign said that on rare occasion there are exotic ones here. I felt kinda lucky and decided to see if anything was available?" He asked feeling quite hopeful.

"An owl," she gestured around. "Well, it certainly seems you have come to the proper place." She began to lead the way toward a section of perches which were mostly empty. "Most who like the thought of something exotic prefer either the snowy owls or the black owls. We have a particularly magnificent specimen of the snowy owl here, almost completely white but with remarkable patterning."
She gestured toward a particular perch where a beautiful snow white bird perched, watching them with interested eyes. "Perhaps if you have some idea of what it is you are looking for, I might be able to better serve you?" she offered. "I must admit, I am only filling in for an hour or so here. I really know very little about the different species of owls. Wands, I could give you a nearly endless discourse on, however."

"Hmmmm. I just wanted something that many didn't own or not many had seen before. I don't know about an all black owl, that seems rather dark to me." Caz looked up at the perch where the snow white bird was perched, it looked at him. For a second, Caz could have sworn that the owl's eyes turned a golden yellow, then back to thier Emerald green color. Caz hadn't even seen an owl's eyes green before. She was quite a beauty.
He began to speak not taking his eyes off the owl "Wands? Check mine out." he said. Taking his wand out and handing it to her without taking his eyes off the owl. He felt quite intranced by her. He handed her his ten inch Redwood wand with a phoneix feather middle. "Its from the states. That owl is quite remarkable. Can I see her patterning?" He said pointing to the snow white bird.

D'rorah looked to the wand as it was handed to her. She balanced it between her fingers for a moment. "A very Gryffindor wand," she remarked, certain she was correct in her assessment. "Very stout, the wood commends bravery and works best for those who are somewhat brash and cautionless. Phoenix feathers, of course, a quite powerful and work well for those with either good or evil intentions. However, paired with the redwood, this wand would almost certainly not work for one with dark intentions... no, it would best serve one who believed in danger and thrill, but sought to protect the safety of others."
She looked up from the wand finally, realizing that he wished to see the owl more closely. She handed the wand back to him. "Anna, heenay," she called, extending her arm. She murmured softly to the owl as it landed on her arm, its talons clinching the fabric which covered the scars obscured by her long sleeves, the same scars which now covered most all of her body except her face and hands. Which were in turn covered by high collared robes which reached austerely from chin to ankle.
As she murmured, the owl obligingly spread her wings, putting herself on display for the customer.

The reading of his wand broke Caz out of the trance he seemed to be in by the owl. He couldn't believe it, she read that wand to the tee and was on point with it. "Wow. How did you do that? I can't say that you are wrong about any of it." He said in amazment taking his wand back and placed it back in its belt loop.
The owl swooped down and onto her arm and proceeded to spread her wings, on the front she was all white. "Flawless white. Turn her around." Before the girl could do so, the owl turned around on her own. On the back side there were caramel colored spotts that formed three oval shapes that seemed to overlap and form something that looked like a symbol. "Whoaaaaaaa." There was something about this owl, and Caz knew he had to have her. "I'll take her." he said with a grin and sped off and fetched a cage, mice, a tonic and owl treats. "How much?" he asked pulling out his pouch that was almost filled to the rim with golden coins. This has to last me until December. He thought shaking the pouch.

D'rorah merely smirked a bit as the young man expressed his incredulity over her ability to read his wand. Wands were very finicky things, in order to do her job at Ollivander's properly, she had made a point of studying their components very closely. She didn't much enjoy the practice of having students try wand after wand after wand in hopes of finding a suitable one. No, she much preferred to know exactly what the perfect wand would be after reading the order slip.
She watched as he exclaimed over the owl and rushed around, gathering the necessary accoutrements to take care of her. "Give me one moment," she replied when he asked about the price. She gestured for him to follow as she stepped behind the counter to check the price listings for the items he had selected. She looked over the list, quickly adding the figures in her head. "Ah, the total today is five galleons, three sickles, and two knuts," she remarked after a moment." She lifted her head, and seeing the sack of galleons, wondered if that was pocket change or money intended to last him through the year.
She though the price rather high for an owl herself, knowing that most students wouldn't have the financial resources for something nearly as expensive as a wand. "Perhaps an even five galleons will suffice," she amended after a moment. She certainly had financial resources far beyond most students... but then, she had paid a heavy price for those monies too. However, she could clearly see that the boy was quite taken with the owl and decided she could make up the slight difference in price she had suggested so as not to short the shopkeeper.

"Hey its no prob, I'll give you six gallenons. You threw in a wand reading for me. I don't plan on doing too much more spending anyway." Caz said with a friendly smile. After all he hadn't spent any money since he had arrived at Hogwarts. Caz was full of excitment as he put Anna in her cage and gathered all her belongings. "Aren't you a prefect at Hogwarts? Whats your name? I'm Cazmond Bringgs, but call me Caz." He told her. He pulled out a treat and gave it to Anna, she ate it and gave him a hoot, almost as if to say thank you.

"Very well then, six galleons it is," she agreed. "Though, I think you might benefit from a class on negotiation if you can find one offered at Hogwarts. Most would attempt to negotiate a price down rather than up."
She started to extend her hand for a handshake as he introduced himself, but realized that his hands were quite full of owl things at the moment. "Yes, my name is D'rorah Philosophy," she replied. "I am the prefect for Ravenclaw. It is a pleasure to meet you, Mister Briggs." Her words had an air of formality about them that was obviously the result of years of addressing people formally. Even her own father had been called 'Mister Philosophy' in their family. She was still getting used to the idea of addressing others informally at Hogwarts. She wondered if he, like so many others, would take the option of shortening her name to Dee. It seemed a rather popular thing to do here, for some reason.

Caz chuckled, "Trust me I know how to hustle when I need to, but right now I have it to spare." I'm just happy to have this bird. Its something special about it, I know it Caz thought.
"D'rorah Philosophy. Well Miss Philosophy, is it alright if I call ya Dee?" Caz said in his very United States accent with a smiling and biting his lip at the same time. He knew how to be very well mannered when he wanted to, he didn't have a choice because of his grandmother, but he preferred to be informal and laid back when there were'nt any adults around.

"Very well, Mister Briggs. Dee." She replied crisply. That name seemed destined to follow her for the rest of her life... forever doomed to have her name shortened to an utterance even shorter than a syllable... a single letter. She forced a smile that looked genuine, ever the good employee. "Well, I certainly hope you will be satisfied with your new companion."
She looked around at the owls still gently ruffling their feathers in the breeze she had allowed in. It blew back a wisp of her hair and, had she been alone, it would have brought a smile to her face. As it was, her face retained the masque of its polite smile and she made her way to the door of the shop. "Perhaps we shall encounter one another again at Hogwarts," she remarked with a slight smile, a subtle hint at goodbye.

"So be it Dee. Thanks again. I'll see ya around." Caz said heading towards the door waving goodbye. "Well Anna, looks like it just me and you know ole girl." Caz said sticking his finger in the cage and rubbing her. He headed off happy as could be and was rather delighted at a mission accomplished.
