It was around afternoon time, after Defense Against the Dark Arts, that Leilani felt herself among a pile of books before the fire. A long parchment held a list of DADA homework, Astronomy, and Transfiguration notes, classes, and homework, she had held off to the last minute. Her extended leave of absent hadn’t helped her learning experience in the least.
Quill scratching on parchment filled the room. Most of the students were in the Great Hall enjoying lunch, or out in the yard, but of course, here she was, locked up and doing work. Procrastination, a definite flaw on all students, had caught up to Leilani already early in the year. She let out a yawn, how long had she been in this very spot. She looked up at the clock over the portrait hole opening, a quarter to three.
Many had left the Great Hall and gone to class by now. And here she was, still sitting. Leilani leaned against the coffee table behind her and looked up at the ceiling. When would this day ever end?

The entrance to the common room swung open and a short boy with shoulder-length black hair and an armful of books stumbled in. With his free hand he adjusted the messenger bag on his right shoulder and then closed the door behind him. He nearly fell flat on his face, tripping on his robes when he turned around, a nearby end table was the only thing that kept him upright.
He dumped his load of books and his bag at the table closest to the fire, brushing his hair behind his ears with a sigh before slipping out of his 'killer' robes, comfortable enough in his black jeans, black leather Harley Davidson boots, Navy blue, long-sleeved turtle-neck, black faux fur, zip-up vest and house scarf. He didn't noticed the girl and her things sprawled out in front of the fire until he moved to sit down facing the fire and saw her and her pile of homework.
"Wow... that's a lot to do." He commented with a smile, "You must have already passed your OWLs..." He opened his transfigurations book, pulling out a hippogriff feather quill, a roll of parchment and extremely dark black ink in an inkwell shaped like a pigmy-puff.

Startled at the new entrance, Lei turned around that she was now not alone. A small smile crossed her face, but her laugh was contained, putting herself in the young boy’s position. He looked fairly young and in slight disarray. Leilani winced at his near fall, but another look of relief came when he caught himself.
Leilani couldn’t help but stare in interest at the little boy. He seemed a new sort of creature under a microscope to her. Asking if he needed help didn’t even cross her mind as he shed his robes to reveal an interesting sort of attire. She smiled inwardly assuming he was either a muggle or a very confused wizard in his dressing, but she wouldn’t hold that against him. Quickly averting her gaze, hoping he didn’t catch her, she went back to what she should have been looking at.
Her face rose at the boy calling attention to her studying, “Well, it wouldn’t have been a lot to do if I had just got it done when it was first assigned,” Lei said with a weary smile. “Procrastination,” Leilani shook her head, moving her hair over her shoulder, “It’s the one piece advice everyone gives, but never follows themselves,” she laughed.
“Now what are you studying in transfiguration?” she asked with interest, thankful for the quaint interruption.

Cavan smiled, "My mom always says that procrastination is the most evil of all things." He chuckled and shook his head, "She is always telling us that we must defeat the Dark Lord Procrastination to stop him from taking over our lives. She's a bit odd at times, but right in her own way."
He set his quill down, which he had yet to ink, "They're teaching how to transfigure rats into tea cups and the like. Unfortunately, I lost us some house points, due to that, sorry..." He didn't sound very enthusiastic about the assignment, but he became more excited as he continued.
"I told the professor that I refused to transfigure and animal into an inanimate object as I wouldn't want someone to do that to me... She sent me back to the common room with an essay assignment instead. I have to write two feet of parchment on each spell they were covering today. I think I'm going to add an extra essay on the effects of transfiguration on animals, as my dad has taught me a lot of what he's learned in his studies on the subject. I hope the others aren't too upset at my stand..." He frowned as if just thinking of the prospect.

Leilani laughed, “That’s a good way to put it, besides being absolutely hilarious.” She looked down at her own book before closing it and smiled at the boy, “Well, I guess the Dark Lord of procrastination is going to be one up on me today,” she said shaking her head. The Dark Lord of Concentration was also obviously another foe of Lei’s.
At the boy’s next comment the brunette girl shook her head and brushed the thought away with her hand. “Everyone loses points,” Lei said thoughtfully, “I lost points the first couple days I had been here for being late to class. Her orange eyes flashed as she began thoughtfully, “The points add up in the end and soon no one will even remember the points YOU lost, but the points they lost themselves,” Lei gave him a reassuring pat on the shoulder, “So, no need to apologize.”
“If you need any help,” Leilani paused, “I’m sure I could, get you along, I’d just have to review a little. What year are you anyway?” she asked curiously, hoping to get a gist of what she might have to help him on. Lei hoped desperately he was not a fifth year since she had a terribly difficult time in transfiguration. Leilani listened with interest at the boys’ description and couldn’t help but smile as he finished. “Well, standing up for what you believe in isn’t that bad of a way to lose points. I’d like to read that essay when you are done with it, I’ve never thought of the effects it has on animals. Besides, once the professor reads your essay I’m sure she’ll reconsider the points that she took away from the House.”

Leilani laughed, “That’s a good way to put it, besides being absolutely hilarious.”
Cavan chuckled in agreement with her response, "She is that as well at times." He adjusted his papers, trying to organize and condense them a bit, as he realized his things were all over the table. He hated cluttering up a space that wasn't his own.
She looked down at her own book before closing it and smiled at the boy, “Well, I guess the Dark Lord of procrastination is going to be one up on me today,” she said shaking her head.
He smiled as he watched her close her book, giving up against the Dark Lord of Procrastiation for now. He wondered if all the students were as easy to distract, or if she was a special case. He'd never seen anyone in the act of procrastination before and it rather intreged him. He didn't understand someone not doing what needed to be done well before it was due to be done.
“If you need any help,” Leilani paused, “I’m sure I could, get you along, I’d just have to review a little. What year are you anyway?” she asked curiously.
Then she was offering to help him in almost the next breath, he had to fight not to giggle at her. "Your help would be very much appreciated, I'm a first year sadly. If I wasn't I'm sure classes would be a little more interesting. Most of what I'm learning is either really boring or something I've learned already at home. Though transfiguration isn't my strong suit as my parent's aren't as well versed in it as they are theory and history."
“Well, standing up for what you believe in isn’t that bad of a way to lose points. I’d like to read that essay when you are done with it, I’ve never thought of the effects it has on animals. Besides, once the professor reads your essay I’m sure she’ll reconsider the points that she took away from the House.”
"I'm hoping the essay will help with the points I lost as well as something far more important. I'm hoping it will get her to possibly reconsider the use of animals for transfiguration. I just wish I could think of an alternative to suggest, to help her thinking along." He scratched his head and bit his lip, lost in thought for a moment, reminded of one of the dilemas he'd yet to reach a solution for as of yet.
