Gavril Konstantin Romanov, age 28, stands tall at about five feet, 11 inches. He hails from St. Petersberg, Russia, from a family of Pure-blood wizards and witches. While his nationality is Russian, he is fluent in both Russian and English. His father, Kristoff Grigory Romanov, with his mother Elizaveta have three children; a set of male twins and a daughter. Gavril is the twin of Kazimir Dimitri Romanov and was the second to be born. His younger sister, Ekaterina Daria Romanova, was born nine years after Kazimir and Gavril. The only difference between Kazimir and Gavril is that Gavril is left handed. Other than that, the two are completely identical.
Gavril weighs in at 150 lbs, and could be considered somewhat muscular for his stature. His body type is a product of good genetics and a regimen of healthy eating and exercise. He has black hair that is cropped short, and wears it either flat and combed to the side, or spikes it up, depending on his preference for the day. He has tanned skin which is probably a recessive trait that he inherited through his father’s side of the family, as his uncle Pietro is the only one in his family besides he and Kazimir who retain a somewhat darker tint to their skin. As a contrast to his darker features, he lacks melanin in his irises, which cause them to reflect blue light, giving them a crisp, blue color.
Gavril’s style of dress can be described as metropolitan, or, business casual as he likes to wear black slacks and a button down, or some kind of dark colored long sleeve sweater or shirt. Perhaps it could be likened to the style of Banana Republic. His choice of footwear can range from some sleek tenni’s or shiny, stylish black lowfers. To accentuate his look, he likes wearing thick, black (or dark brown) leather cuffs as an accessory. He rarely wears any jewelry as he owns one silver ring, and one silver chain, which he reserves both for special occasions.
Personality:
Gavril maintains a very well kept appearance as he shows no outward emotions unless something is happening to evoke them out of him. For example, some people may be walking down a corridor with a smile on their face as they think about the good grade they had just received on a test. Whereas Gavril would contain his happiness to his inner workings. Perhaps his well controlled outward appearance could be attributed to the rudimentary training he received while attending Durmstrang. While his somewhat cold exterior prevents many people from approaching him, those who do know Gavril have the pleasure of knowing that he is an extremely dedicated friend and possesses a unique sense of humor, which, usually Gavril is the only one laughing at his own jokes.
As he lived in Russia, he became familiar with struggle and hunger as his family helped out impoverished families that were less fortunate than his own. His family, being of wealth and purity, were practical with their money and family name, while other wizarding families flaunted their blood status and wealth. As he experienced these unfortunate qualities of the world, he became compassionate toward others in need. He would often look after his baby sister with his brother as his parents would be called away on business, and he came to find that he had a very nurturing soul.
Gavril has a bit of a temper when he does not get his way. He often shows signs of arrogance when people interfere with his plans or daily schedule. He can be quite intimidating if he gets angry, and has no problem showing his anger in a variety of ways including spouting off colorful strings of epithets in Russian and English, or physically expelling his frustrations by breaking, or knocking things over. Gavril has had some terrific battles with his twin brother and definitely knows how to fight with his fists.
He hates the dishonest and people who don’t put forth enough effort to succeed. He can see great potential in people around him, and often tries to encourage his peers and subordinates to work toward, and accomplish their goals. He was raised in an honest household, so he rarely told lies, as he would get beaten if he was caught lying. Therefore, he expects honesty from those who he comes into interaction with.
History:
Gavril Konstantin Romanov was born in St. Pertersburg, Russia on the date of June 26th. His parents Kristoff and Elizaveta were thrown for a loop when two children were born instead of just the one as they had been expecting. First, Kazimir was born, the expected child, and then Gavril was brought into the world seconds later. His father was so happy to have not one, but two sons that would carry on the Romanov name, as well as he would be able to raise them and teach them just as his father had with him. Elizaveta was filled with joy to have been doubly blessed, but would not know the trials and tribulations of twins until they grew into toddlers causing mischief and chaos. Gavril was named after Elizaveta’s uncle, Ioann Gavril, and Kazimir was named after Kristoff’s grandfather, Kazimir Aleksandyr Romanov. The boys brought their parents such joy and happiness, and finally filled the empty space that was left in Elizaveta’s life as she was often left to tend the house alone while Kristoff went off on business. During such times, Elizaveta would take advantage of the boy’s youthful advantage to soak up every bit of knowledge by teaching them how to speak English as well as Russian, their primary language.
Growing up, Gavril and Kazimir had many rivalries as they had to share things, as most twins do. Kazimir would often take the lead as the first twin, and Gavril came second and would submit to Kazimir. Elizaveta noticed how Kazimir mostly dominated Gavril in their younger years, and would take such actions as taking a toy away from Kazimir if Gavril wanted to play with it, causing Kazimir to slightly resent Gavril, but loved him just the same. As their mother taught them English, she also performed minor magic around the house to entertain her boys. It brought her unspoken joy to see her boys laugh and giggle as she animated their stuffed toys and caused them to dance around. As the days grew later, the boys would eagerly wait for their father to return home as he always seemed to have a captivating story awaiting them about his travels and business and such. With one boy on each knee, he would tell them about evil dragons and valiant wizards who would defeat demons and beings of darkness.
Later on when the boys were eight, they noticed a subtle change happening to their mother as her belly began to increase in size. She would laugh as they inquired as to what was happening to her and she simply responded that she was “Baking a brother or sister” for them to play with. From that point on, Kaz and Gav would spend many years obsessed with cooking and baking. As they had reached their ninth birthdays, their mother was ready to give birth and four weeks after the twins turned nine, she gave birth to a baby girl whom she named Ekaterina Daria Romanova. The boys were obsessed with their new baby sister and their father instructed them to protect her and love her and to always keep an eye out for her. Shortly after Ekaterina’s birth, Kristoff and Elizaveta became involved with helping families that were less fortunate, and the twins definitely felt the attention slowly work itself away from them and focus on their new sister and their parents work. Luckily this wasn’t much of a problem as Gavril had Kazimir and vice versa. After Kristoff explained to his boys that they were helping out families that didn’t have enough money or were victims of natural disasters, he taught his boys that it was the right thing to do, for they had been very fortunate and it was only right to give a little back.
Finally the boys turned 11 and went off to school at Durmstrang, where they learned respect for their elders and a strict course of magical education. Gavril loved magic and felt that it made every day life easier. He was always practicing his charms and transfiguration, which was his favorite subject. He showed great aptitude for the two subjects and received nothing but high marks in both classes. Learning the dark arts was mystifying and captivating, reminding him of the stories his father used to tell him when he was younger about the dragons and valiant wizards. As he learned about Lord Voldemort, he found it astonishing that one wizard could attain such tremendous power and become such a force to be reckoned with, but found it sad at the same time that he had the potential to do good things and instead only caused pain and discord. While learning how to perform magic was one facet to his education, he learned through experience to stifle his outward emotions. He was taught that his opponent would be able to read him too well if he was expressing fear or concern, therefore he was instructed to try and remove very expression of emotion on his face when dealing with the outside world, which he became quickly adept at. However, he was not always able to maintain a somber attitude as he was in reality a fun loving person.
As he matriculated from Durmstrang, Kazimir decided to go to a magical university and further study the arts of magic. His younger sister was still at home, now nine years of age, and willing as ever to go attain her own magical education as she was starting to show signs of magical ability as he and his brother had before her. As he was undecided with what to do with the rest of his life, he spend a couple years at home with his parents and sister, opting to care for her while his mother became more involved with her husbands line of work. He found himself teaching her as his mother had taught him, and began to teach her how to speak English, which he now was fluent in. In addition to teaching her how to speak English, he spent his time entertaining her with showing her tips and tricks to easy transfiguration. She would always beg him to turn teacups into into The more he had fun educating his younger sister, the more he realized that he ought to pursue a career in education. Coming to this conclusion, Gavril headed off for the magical university to further his studies in magic and to hone his skills in academia.
Gavril said goodbye to his hometown and country and hightailed it to the United Kingdom to find work at the Wizarding school known as Hogwarts. They were competitors in the Tri-Wizard Championship and had been impressed with the way their students performed. It was a pretty renowned school for its academics and turning out famous wizards, such as Voldemort and Harry Potter, and Gavril wanted to be a part of that experience in hopes that he may educate the next great wizard. Upon arrival to the grand castle, he met with the headmistress, and they went over his credentials and discussed which class he would be willing to teach. He felt that he would be best suited as the Transfiguration professor, for that was the subject he felt he had the most flourish and experience in. Thankfully, the headmistress agreed after he demonstrated his abilities in the subject and was appointed as the new professor for Transfiguration.
