This idea blossomed in my head yesterday, but it still needs a bit of work, so any comments would be appreciated. But it gives more reasoning as to why Caitlin might be chosen as a Shadow Warrior when she’s a pacifist and all that, which some people seem to have trouble with understanding 
. And it could also create some more plot/back-story for the Shadow Wars, and a way to get more information about it.
Basically, Caity is not completely muggle-born. Her grandma was the squib only child of a muggle-born witch and a muggle. Her great-grandma, the witch, travelled to India with squib grandma to sort some unnamed “trouble” that is going on there. Grandma doesn’t know a lot about it, just that great grandma has special powers, is part of an important magical group and sometimes comes home hurt or upset. In actuality, great grandma was a shadow warrior for a previous Order of the Light. The reason Cait’s parents decided to go to India to start with was because they were always hearing stories about the place from grandma.
Great grandma bought an elephant pendant with an unknown magical origin for grandma, in the hopes that its supposed mystical properties would prompt some sort of magical talent in squib grandma. It didn’t work, and grandma ended up giving the pendant to Caity just before she died (or when Cait got the Hogwarts letter - can't remember what I decided on when I first mentioned it ages ago).
This is where I’m less sure on the details, but I plan to have the pendant somehow linked to great grandma, and lead Cait to a journal/diary kept while great grandma was a Shadow Warrior, with a load of theories and stuff about the Shadow Wars. Obviously it’ll be too easy to have the lightfighters just discover it and read it all in English, so it’ll probably have parts that are indecipherable, or some other difficulty with discovering its contents. Plus I’m sure I can get something interesting out of the unknown mystical properties/history of the pendant, but I haven’t come up with anything there yet, so any ideas with that would be good. And it would need to be decided what theories and such were actually in the journal.
