Jason had always made a point of avoiding the common room. Hardly surprising given his discomfort with people. It struck him as quite ironic that now, as he climbed through the portrait hole with the intent of sitting in the room and getting to know those he shared a house with, he found the place deserted. He walked around the entire room, finding that he was indeed alone.
"Well, that figures."
His plans of integrating himself more into the social structure of the students seemed to be off to a rocky start. Sighing, he tossed his bag onto the overstuffed armchair closest to the fire and took out his wand. At least this was a good opportunity to practice his wordless casting. He stood at the far end of the room and swished his wand through the air before him, concentrating on one of the other chairs near the one his bag rested in. Slowly it lifted into the air and began to move about, rising just high enough to avoid colliding with any of the other furniture.

Tieing her red hair behind her head, Aimee practically ran down the dormitory staires and almost fell. She stopped as soon as she got to the bottom step, Blast! Where did I put my broom? She thought and looked around the room.
Her eyes went around the room searching for her broom and finally fell on a young boy floating an armchair in front of him. He looked rather focused but Aimee really needed to practice flying. She walked to the guy, trying to make noise so she would scare him, "Hey, have you seen a broom lying about in here? Its a Nimbus model, with Aimee Miller written on the side of it." She burrowed her eyebrows together out of frustration. Her head made one more sweep about the room to see if she could catch any glimpse of it.

The chair crashed to the floor, one of the legs snapping. Jason blinked and sighed. He'd have to practice more if he wanted to be able to maintain concentration and pay attention to his surroundings at the same time. Oh well. Gave the house elves something to do at least.
He turned to face the girl and then immediately began scanning the room before his eyes ever really found her face. Not seeing the broom he turned back to her, consciously keeping his eyes up instead of on the floor, but focusing on her nose, as eye contact still made him uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry, I don't really know the difference between models. Uhm . . . you play? Do you know where I could try out? I mean, well I guess it's obvious where. Why would they have me try out anywhere but the pitch? But I mean when. When can I try out? I've never played and I'm not sure I'll be good enough but I'd like to try."
He took a deep breath and cleared his throat. Oh he thought, an idea coming to him. His wand still in his hand he pointed it near the center of the room.
"Accio Nimbus."
From a dark corner came the well crafted broom. It flew right to him and he caught it with his free hand. Turning back to the girl, he held it out and smiled.

Jumping from the noise the crashing chair made. The boy sighed and scanned the room also and avoided her eyes. This guy is kind of odd. She thought with the lack of eye contact. Being Aimee, she always looked people in the face. She felt that she would make the other people think she was a door mat.
"Yeah, I play," Aimee answered, "I'm going for beater, maybe even Captian, not so sure about that one yet." She thought about everything she heard about quidditch tryouts but nothing came to mind, "I'm not sure they announced when the tryouts are going to be. We might not even have enough people."
"Accio Nimbus."
Aimee laughed as he said the spell, "Why didn't I think of that?" The broom zoomed towards the two Gryffindors from a corner on the other side of the room. Aimee could easily see her name written on the side of it, as she had made sure it would be visible to everyone. In her second year, the broom that her father got her for her birthday had gotten stolen. She returned a smile of thanks to the boy in front of her and took her broom from him, "I'm Aimee. Your name?"

Jason's face fell slightly when she said she wasn't sure they'd have enough people. He wasn't sure what that'd mean. He managed to keep a bit of a smile though as he answered her.
"Jason. I'm a 4th year Gryf . . . right, you know that. I mean how could I be in here otherwise? I mean I guess it isn't quite a Gringotts vault. A non Gryffindor could get in if they really wanted I suppose, or had help from a Gryffindor. I dunno why they'd want to though. Not that this isn't a nice place to be. Sorry, I didn't mean that I don't like our house. I was thrilled when the sorting hat put me here. Not sure why though. I mean I know why I'm thrilled. It's a great house. Not to say the others are bad, I mean I've met some people from other houses, they seem nice. But I am glad I'm in Gryffindor. What I meant was I'm not sure why I am in Gryffindor. Well, yes because the hat said so, but why did it say so I mean. I dunno."
He looked around the room, pausing in his rambling, but only for a moment as the sudden silence felt even more uncomfortable to him than his rapid babbling.
"Beater? That's cool. I think I'm hoping for chaser. Keeper would be cool to though. I dunno though. I mean as keeper it'd be my fault anytime the other team scores, and as beater it would kinda be my fault if any of our team got bludgered. No way I could play seeker. My eyes are terrible. Well, not terrible, I mean it's not like I can't see the floor from here. I just mean I wouldn't be able to keep track of a snitch. Not sure I could catch one either. I don't really have any experience at quidditch. I mean I can fly all right. Hopefully well enough. I guess we'll see. Or maybe not if there aren't enough people . . ."
He smiled sheepishly, hoping he hadn't weirded her out too much but figuring he probably had. He was optimistic like that.

Aimeestood in front of him, a little taken aback at his ramblings. She playfully grabbed him by his shoulders and said, "I understand what you are trying to say. I like the fact I'm in Gryffindor too." She let go of him and he started rambling agin about Quidditch.
Listening to all the words running together she just laughed. She couldn't help it. It was like Jason had some sort of talking ADD. "Okay. Calm down, Jason." She said, "You talk alot don't you. Not like quiet? Me neither." She said to make him feel a little better. It was the truth, though. She hated quiet...it was always quiet at the house. Well, unless you count the TV thats always on. Thinking that, she pictured her father sitting in his room reading. She missed him badly.

He grinned, feeling somewhat foolish for his rambling. In truth Jason didn't like to talk much. He preferred listening. He was definitely better at listening. He just worried that he would be misunderstood and so wished to explain himself as best he could, which sadly wasn't very well. It was true enough that he didn't like quiet. He liked it when people were talking. He liked it when he could hear life around him.
Even lying out by the lake, it was never quiet. The sound of the water gently lapping the muddy shore, the many birds chirping away, the giant squid splashing about sometimes. These were the sounds he liked falling asleep to.
"So, were you headed down to the pitch?"
It was kind of a lame question, but he couldn't think of anything better.

Aimee smiled back at him and answered, " Yeah, i was heading down there. I need to brush up on my flying and stuff. I'm scared I've gotten horrible...Watch if I make it on the team, I'll be flying around and then I'll fall straight to the ground." She said talking with her hands. She pictured her flying , trying to hit the bludger, missing and falling to the ground.
"So, you're trying for a chaser? I heard that two girls named Olivia Matthews and Luke Davis are also. But, hey thats good. We would just need another beater, a another chaser and a keeper." She counted them on her hands. Well thats only three people, maybe we will have teams after all! She thought and smiled even broader

"It's good to hear students to enthusiastic about quidditch, I have to say for awhile there I was afraid we would not be able to put together a whole team..." Kailee entered the common room with a clipboard in hand, looking a bit overwhelmed by the situation. She had known that her tenure at the school would include teaching in some capacity, but to be a Head of House? It was another thing entirely.
"And what a poor showing that would be for grand old Gryffindor House," she said as she winked to the girl in the room who had been so interested in the quidditch proceedings.

Aimee jumped when she heard someone walk in behind her. Turning around and seeing the new Gryffindor head of house, she smiled a little nervously. She had been wondering when her house would finally have a head, but she didn't think she would actually be having a conversation with her. "Hello professor." She smiled to cover her being uncomfortable.
"And what a poor showing that would be for grand old Gryffindor House," she said as she winked to the girl in the room who had been so interested in the quidditch proceedings.
"Yes that would be a bit embarrassing. I'm sure it will happen every now and again though." She laughed. She looked at her broom stick, wondering if she should really go down to the field to practice.

Nodding almost to himself as the girl explained about the other players she knew about, Jason began to wonder if he'd be the only male on the team. A stupid, boyish grin slowly spread across his face. He couldn't help it thinking about the pregame planning sessions in the locker room, him surrounded by girls. It also terrified him since he wasn't sure he'd be able to play well at all with so many girls watching so closely. He got so nervous so easily . . .
He opened his mouth, no doubt to stutter out some long-winded explanation that he wouldn't mind being keeper or maybe even play as the other beater, when the portrait swung open and a Professor he hadn't met yet swept in. Typically he was good . . . well, not as bad at talking to professors as he was to other students, but this one seemed both a bit on the young side and was likely the recently appointed Head of House for Gryffindor as she was here in the common room. Thus she seemed almost like an older student rather than a professor and it mattered what she thought of him, as he'd likely see her and have cause to talk to her more often than the other adults about the school.
Jason took a deep breath and stepped forward, holding out his hand and rapidly firing off his introduction as if it were one long word.

“Hopefully not now… Or again either for that matter,” she said, grinning. She had been worried about making her first appearance in the common room, but perhaps this wouldn’t be so bad…
There was another student in the room who stood, mouth-agape as if just about to speak when Kailee had entered. She looked at him and smiled, her head dipping slightly as bit of a worried look spread across her face. “Are you okay?”
”HelloProfessormynameisJasonCruzI’ma4thyearIt’snicetomeetyou.”
She blinked a couple of times, as if shocked by his reacton before resuming her previous, pleasant grin. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Jason Cruz, 4th Year student and possible quidditch team contender as well, no?"
It was not as if she was disinterested in the students that were present, but she had not yet made her way to the common room since finding out about her appointment as temporary head of house. Her eyes flicked about the common room for a moment, remembering every detail…
“I do hope you both will be going out for the team. It's something that I hadn’t even thought of, honestly… As a student I had no idea what all Heads of Houses had to contend with.”
The common room was bright and friendly, but for whatever reason there were no other students present. "Perhaps I could offer you two a cup of tea and something to eat? And you could offer me some information on what has been happening this year?"
