Melanie shakily walked up the steep stairs up the Astronomy Tower. She could see her own breath; it twirled like smoke in the frigid air. She had no idea why she wanted to go to the top of the tower, maybe because she was lonely. Once she was on the top, overlooking Hogwarts, she sat right on the floor and closed her chocolate colored eyes. The wind blew her hair around her face, turning her cheeks and nose a flushed red. Soon she was chilled to the bone, and as she stood up she heard her joints crack. Her eyes opened to find herself standing on the very edge of the tower, and her heart beat fluttered in panic. Slowly, she lifted her arms as if she was about to take off in flight like a bird. Her light brown hair twisted and turned around her face, and she closed her eyes once more. She felt so free, so wonderful. She felt as if she really could fly. Should I jump?
She changed her mind after a huge gust of wind almost thrust her off the Astronomy Tower. She took a shaky breath, and her chest heaved from effort of breathing in the cold air. She took a shaky step backwards, off the ledge and onto still ground. Her head whirled and she felt as if she was in a dreamlike stage. For all she knew, this was a dream. She took another step backwards, and gasped in shock as she felt her shoe get caught in a sharp ledge. Melanie felt her heart skip a beat, the feeling of falling making her panicked. Her lips let out a scream as she went tumbling off the side of the tower.
Her hand just caught the edge of the cliff, and she dangled they’re with only one arm keeping her from falling to her death. She let another scream of help. Melanie brought up her other hand and she clutched to the stone ledge with both hands. Her body swayed in the wind, her legs dangled like a ragdolls. Carefully she looked down, and she almost lost her grip. At least two hundred feet bellow was the garden, and if she let go she’d most defiantly fall and die. I’m too young to die! It felt strange, almost funny when she thought it, since in movies they say as such. But this situation was anything but humorous. “Help!” She screamed again at the top of her lungs, and she let out a cough. If someone wasn’t they’re soon, she’d lose her grasp and she will surely plummet to her death.
