The school had been abuzz with talk of the Masquerade Ball from the Teacher's Lounge to the hallways and particularly in the kitchens, where Kailee had heard the elves had taken a particular interest in the food for the festivities, pulling out all of the stops. It certainly seemed, from where she stood just behind the table with the punchbowl that they had managed their task.
Only a handful of students had entered the ballroom at this point and she was impressed that so many of them had taken the masked ball so seriously, donning masks that impressed her and surprised her, for they did tend to make it difficult to tell at whom she was looking. As an adult, it had been much easier to send away for her mask and dress than she had remembered as a student. It took very little time for her to prepare and in fact, she had nearly forgotten it was the night for the ball in the first place.
Many things had changed since her own days at Hogwarts; for the flirtatious student she once was would certainly have laughed at the light wrap the professor threw over her exposed shoulders before heading down to the ballroom. Kailee thought on that student more often now than she had ever remembered doing so since she had left the hallowed halls of Hogwarts. Perhaps it was being back at the school and having triggers of her adolescent memories in greater number and proximity than while she was hidden behind the walls of the Ministry. Things had been so uncertain and so spontaneous lately... But one other thing was certain: the previously mentioned student would have also certainly laughed at the professor who had taken up residence near the punch bowl.
