Wysteria tapped her fingers on the desk abesentmindedly in the empty classroom, starting out the window at the cloudy afternoon. It had been much less sunny as of late, which was to be expected now that the dementors were on the loose and probably breeding. Wyst shuddered slightly at the thought of the soulless creatures breeding. She leaned back in her chair and stretched, ocassionally glancing at the door as she waited for Thomas to arrive.
She had sent him a message that morning, so she wasn't sure if he had gotten it in time, or if he would be able to come. Wyst found it ironic that she was actually teaching a student a spell that had been used to do much darker things than get back at a student.
But they were marked men anyway
The internal argument with herself she had been going though ever since that summer was threatening to resume. Realizing she didn't have time for another moral paradox debate with her conscious, she shut the idea out of her head. Just as she did that, she thought she heard the door open behind her, and she spun around to see who it was.

Thomas had received an owl telling him that she had some free time this afternoon and would teach him the spell. Luckily for Thomas, he had both avoided the attentions of the Seventh Year's friends and had also had some free time. Well, he could have been using it to study, but Thomas decided that his freedom to walk around without having to look over his shoulder was probably well worth what ever amount of time he lost for his study.
Entering the classroom that he had been instructed to, Thomas saw Wysteria whirl around to see if he was a teacher or if he was who he actually was. Closing the door, Thomas looked at Wysteria questionably.
"You're a bit nervy."

Wysteria raised an eyebrow at his comment and resisted the urge to roll her eyes at her own jumpiness. She had been surprised, that was all, but she knew it must have looked like she was overreacting to his entrance.
"You just surprised me, that's all," she said, walking over to the other side of the desk so she could face him.
"Well," she began, taking out her wand, "I guess we might as well jump into it. The spell that I mentioned earlier not only ties ropes around the person but also renders them paralyzed. It's simplistic for me to say it's a 'combination' of the two spells," she said, tapping a finger on her chin in thought, trying to phrase what she wanted to say next.
"When used together, the resulting spell is much more powerful than if you used one spell after the other. No matter how strong the person...or creature...you're binding is, they will be immobile for at least thirty seconds. As one might suppose, the incantation is Incarcerous Totalus. The wand should be steady, but a slight jabbing motion is needed for the spell to work properly."
She looked at her wand for a few moments, deciding on how best to teach him the spell with only the two of them in the classroom. She had planned on using the Room of Requirement, but she knew it was occupied right now
"I could show you, but I would be putting the charm on you. Unless...you have a better idea? I don't mind if you practice on me a couple times, as long as you don't try and run off before releasing me," she said, smirking.

Thomas listened with interest as Wysteria began to tell him about the spell. It sounded interesting. A mixture of two binding spells, interesting. I wonder if it would be at all possible to mix three or four spells together in order to make an impossible to escape trap. Or maybe a shield charm that retaliates for you. Now that would be good. Thomas stopped the grin that was threatening to spread across his face before it was more than a sligh twitch, which Wysteria had hopefully not noticed.
"I could show you, but I would be putting the charm on you. Unless...you have a better idea? I don't mind if you practice on me a couple times, as long as you don't try and run off before releasing me,"
Thomas shrugged. If this was a trap set up by the Seventh Year boys they had gone to a lot of trouble. This was why he was still here, rather than out the door. The chances of Wysteria just pretending to teach the spell were slim and so Thomas was prepared to be bound by the spell.
"I'm game. If I want learn the spell I might as well know what it's like to be on the receiving end of it."

Wysteria was glad Thomas was trusting her to do this...although she wasn't sure how much was trust and how much he just needed someone to teach him a good defense spell. Nevertheless, she had at least gained the benefit of the doubt since he was willing to cooperate. She knew that in order to teach this spell she would have to remove herself from the experience she associated with it...and because of this she appeared colder than normal. But she knew Thomas was consistenly stoic, so she knew he would not think much of it if she appeared closed-off.
"Very well," she said, taking a few steps back from him. "Now, I warn you that the spell is very strong and it won't be pleasant to experience. When I do this, I want you to struggle in any way you can, it'll be the only way I know if it worked. You may be thrown back a few feet, but I'll make a cushioning charm before you get a concussion," she said, holding her wand up and ready. "Ok, here goes... INCARCEROUS TOTALUS!"
Immediatly a jet a of blue light erupted from the wand, sending Thomas backward a couple feet and freexing him. Wysteria quickly performed the cushioning charm as his body was falling to the floor. Just before it fell, large green ropes materialized around his body and bound him tightly several times over, until they covered almost all of him.
Wyst waited a few moments to make sure the spell was properly performed, and let about a minute go by before she was satisfied it had worked. He wasn't moving at all. Wyst performed a releasing charm that broke him free of the bounds.
"So, that's how it's done. You were able to observe the jabbing motion and my stance, as well as my annunciation. I'm sorry I had to keep you in those binds for a while, but I wanted to make sure it worked, and in any case nothing will release that spell until a certain amount of time has passed depending on the person or creature bound."
"So...what did you think?" she asked, a grin on her face.

Thomas waited patiently for the spell to be cast on him. When the blue light erupted from the end of Wysteria's wand Thomas made to move, but not so that he would be missed by the jet. The beam hit and Thomas felt his muscles clench. His arms snapped to the side of his body, and his legs came together, almost painfully. Struggling with all hiss might against the spell, Thomas thought that, as he fell, he felt the spell weaken around the area of his shoulder blades. Still, if there was movement it was tiny and wouldn't have been enough to stop Thomas from hurting himself. Good thing that Wysteria performed a cushioning charm.
As his body came towards the ground, green ropes bound it. Thomas tried once again to move but this time he didn't even have the pleasure of a tiny movement. It looked as if the spell was very, very effective. It would be a good one to use against any opponents.
As he waited, Thomas kept on thinking about how he could splice several spells together in order to get one, ultra powerful spell that would be near impossible to defeat. His thinking was interrupted by Wysteria's counter curse.
Standing up, Thomas loosened his muscles while he listened to Wysteria. Finally, Wysteria asked what he thought. Thomas looked thoughtful, before replying,
"I like it."

Wysteria nodded at Thomas's aprroval. "Good. It'd the only spell I've succesfully combined. I've tried to do others before with limited success. Sometimes spells work against each other; it's a very tricky art to make a new spell," she said, leaning back on the table for a moment. He was a very hard person to read; she got flashes of emotion from his face at times, but for the most part it appeared blank or hardened. His words were better indicators, Wyst surmised, and supposed that if he hadn't said any complaints, he didn't have any at that point.
"Well, I suppose you'll need to practice now," she said, running a hand through her black hair and thumbing one of her jasmine flowers. She stored her wand in her robes and walked over to stand a few feet in front of Thomas, her stance poised but with some slight tension at her shoulders.
"Alright, my turn to be the guinea pig. It's a tough spell, so you won't be able to produce what I did on the first try. But if you at least make a few ropes come out, you'll be fine."
"Ready," she said, her face unreadable.

It seemed that Thomas wasn't the only person who didn't show off his emotions. Wysteria seemed to be able to keep her face unreadable. From her stance, however, Thomas figured out that she was possibly slightly apprehensive about having the spell cast on her. Thomas didn't blame her. It would be quite easy to panic when you had the spell cast upon you, because you couldn't do anything to try and free yourself, leaving you at the mercy of your opponent.
Standing with his left foot forward, knee bent and his right foot behind him and slightly to one side. Bringing up his wand, Thomas concentrated and jabbed it slightly at Wysteria as he spoke in an even tone,
"Incarcerous Totalus."
There was a jet of blue light, but nothing much seemed to happen. A couple of string like ropes snaked around Wysteria's body but nothing else.
"Any chance that you're petrified and don't know it?"

(OOC: You can godmod me abit in your next post if you want Thomas to have to try repeatedly, and just paraphrase or say I got back up and asked you to try again every time.)
Wysteria felt an ciy sensation go across her body as the blue light passed through her. Her body stiffened slightly, but it was easy to shake off, and the ropes barely felt snug against her ankles. It was actually more than she had expected to see for trying the spell for the first time. She laughed softly at Thomas's mild joke, shaking her head.
"No, I don't think so," she said, still smiling a bit. "But like I said this is a really difficult spell. The jabbing is fairly good but it's much more of a lean than a jab, and you've really..." she searched for the right words, "this, like all powerful spells, in one that you really must put your full weight behind. You have to want the person to be bound badly, otherwise the spell will reflect the lack of enthusiasm. You have to focus and see them bound in your mind, like you already know it will work." At this, Wyst felt her eyes flash from green to blue for a split second, but she cleared her throat and looked at the ground for a moment. When she looked up, her eyes were normal.
"Try again," she said, returning to her stance a few feet in front of him. Her shoulders were a bit more tense this time as she waited for the spell.

Thomas returned Wysteria's grin briefly, but he stopped smiling as she continued. He listened intently and mentally grinned. If Wysteria wanted him to try his hardest, he would. Reverting to his usual standing position, Thomas suddenly sprang back to how he had been standing before speaking the incantation louder than before.
"INCARCEROUS TOTALUS."
Another jet of blue sot out again and this time seemed to do more. It certainly took Wysteria longer to shrug off the effects. When she told Thomas to go again, he raised his voice up another notch and it seemed to have the same effect. Four tries later and very little improvement had been made. Shrugging, Thomas lowered his wand and said,
"You were right, it is a difficult spell."

Wysteria could tell, even though to him the differences were slight, that he was becoming better with the spell. The feezing effect and binding were tighter, but with each attempt the improvement was not as great as the last. He would soon reach a plateau...
She tried to think back when she had finally mastered the spell and what made it all click. Each time she had invisioned the same thing...and then she realized why Thomas wasn't improving. She mouthed a small, "oh.." as she stared at the wooden table in thought. She turned to Thomas, anxious to explain.
"When you do this spell, you're seeing me standing here just waiting for your jinx. But this time," she said, her hands moving with her words, excited that she discovered the problem," this time I want you not to see me. I want you to look at me, but see an enemy."
She stopped speaking for a few seconds, her face blank but her brow was furrowed as if she was struggling with a thought or idea. When Wysteria opened her mouth again her voice was a bit more monotone and subdued. "Imagine the person you loath the most, someone you would love to do this spell on. And try again."
