So, I'm not actually planning to start playing Ben until after my exams are finished, mid-June. But I wanted to get him all sorted and stuff now so that when I do want to play him, I don't have to wait for that.

Family Interactions:
Benjamin gets on quite well with most of his family, even if there are multitudes of them and it gets a bit crazy around Christmas and family birthdays. They all live within a half hour drive of each other in the city of Southampton, with the younger Davies family living on the same street as Ben's family. They've grown up together, and for a very long time Adam was his best friend. Adam always helped Ben with getting around and wasn't at all prejudiced against him because of his disability. However, since going to Hogwarts that relationship has waned a little through lack of being around each other for long periods of times.
Ben's brother Kyle was previously a little jealous of all the attention Ben received, but since that has passed they have gained a much better relationship. His parents are naturally over-protective, but are thrilled for what he has received from magic and are all-embracing of his new title as a wizard. Lately they have been giving him a little more freedom.

Paragraph Format:
Benjamin is mostly a pile of lankiness. He is still growing and shows no signs of stopping any time soon. His brown hair is quiet long and floppy and at the longest reaches almost to his shoulders. It generally isn't tamed paricularly well since he has a habit of losing hairbrushes. His facial features are generally quite small although his mouth is normally curved into a smile which makes it appear a little out of proportion.
He usually wears he first clothes he pulls out of his wardrobe in the morning, which means he gets some odd colour combinations at times. His cheery demeanour translates into a bounce in his step that you can hardly miss and his constant grin makes him seem a lot more friendly than he otherwise might. Although he towers over a lot of people, you can hardly be worried due to intimidation. His lack of bulk and muscle is something that he wishes to change, but whatever he eats just seems to add onto his height rather than weight.
Personality:
If you had to describe Ben in one word it would be "happy". Despite all the hardships he has gone through in life, not one of his friends - or even those who don't like him - could say he was moping or depressed because of it. He is optimistic, bouncy and downright in-your-face cheerful for practically every hour of every day. Of course, there are times when he will acknowledge the need to take a smile off his face - at his neighbour's funeral, for instance, he did summon up a solemn face for the occasion, but as soon as the itchily formal black suit was off he was back to his normal self, bumping everyone else's spirits along the way.
He is totally dedicated to his work, acknowledging that without magic he would never have had the chance to go to a normal school, let alone learn spells and potions and everything else that came with Hogwarts. He retains his happy demeanour throughout writing long, dreary essays about goblin rebellions for History of Magic and recording senseless dreams for Divination. Although he knows he could be outside having fun, he wants to keep learning so that someday he might be able to help someone just like the St. Mungo's Healer helped him. His determination has allowed him to be near the top of most of his classes.
Some people have considered him a nerd in the past and tried to tease him about it, but Benjamin is very good at taking it well. He has had so much given back to him already that he doesn't see that taking offence to what some idiots might say to him is going to do any good. Mostly he'll just laugh it off or ignore them. When he thinks someone is in need of cheering up he can be very considerate and thougtful. He has a lot of faith in others' potential even when they don't see it themselves and is forever coming up with silver linings for bad situations.
Of course, he does have various negative traits as well. He tends to dive into things without thinking and is very impulsive in all his actions. He isn't exactly naive, but often underestimates how bad things seem to other people and thus isn't particularly sensitive to the fact that they might need some alone time. He thrives on company. Also, although he does work hard he is not particularly ambitious - he goes with the flow of life. There is also the slight problem of forgetfulness that plagues him on occasion.
History:
Once upon a time, on a mild autumn day in a normal, muggle hospital, David Ellis watched in great trepidation as his wife Marilyn gave birth to their first child. Names were already picked out - Benjamin Ryan for a boy, Dana Elizabeth for a girl. On that sunny afternoon, their dreams of a normal family life with their new son were shattered when they were informed he had been born blind. He had light perception, but that meant that all he could do when he grew up would be perceiving the direction of a light source.
Benjamin grew up a very sheltered existence... His brother was born two years after him, and would sometimes take advantage of Ben's blindness as a young child by taking things that were supposed to belong to him. However, he underestimated just how much Ben would be able to use his other senses, so those tricks turned into a sort of game for the two boys, testing Ben's improving senses against Kyle's ability to hide. Aged four he began attending a school especially for blind children and learnt Braille - it was at this point he discovered his love of reading. Stories could describe to him concepts and images he could barely imagine with his severely limited vision.
Despite his hardship in sight, Ben was always a very cheerful and friendly child - he gave greetings to his neighbours when he heard their distinctive footsteps approaching and otherwise did as best he could. As mentioned earlier, he became very good friends with his cousin Adam, and the two did everything they could together. Sport was always an issue because Adam adored it, and Ben sort of... couldn't see any of the balls, which made it a little difficult to catch or kick or throw them as you were supposed to do. Despite this, the pair remained close throughout their younger years.
Aged eleven, Benjamin was all ready to go onto the next stage of his schooling at another school specifically for blind children. However, before he could get that far there was a quite significant knock at his door. Ben, it turned out, was a muggleborn wizard identified by the ministry. Once they had gotten over the shock, they attempted to explain how since Ben was blind, he had to go to a special school. Then came their biggest shock - his blindness could be cured with a simple trip to the wizarding hospital in London, St. Mungo's. Having been listening with Kyle at the door, Ben had made up his mind before the sentence was fully out of the wizard's mouth. He was going to this hospital, he was going to be able to see, and then he was going to learn magic at this school.
Just as planned out in Ben's head, it all went ahead. The first time he opened his eyes to see the world, he was speechless. It went like that for about a month afterwards, and even know sometimes he will just look about and be amazed at what is around him. Of course he had to learn how to read without braille, and his preferred method is still that, and otherwise accustom to having sight. The neighbours and distant family were told he had been subject to some experimental surgery that had worked amazingly well, and was now off to a special boarding school. His trip to Diagon Alley ended up in getting all his school supplies, and especially his wand - a 10 inch Rosewood with dragon heartstring. Then he arrived at Hogwarts, and had so much else to discover.
He was sorted along with the other first years, and ever since has been enjoying life at the school. Although he has tried his hand at quidditch, there is a definite lack of coordination skills that came from not being able to see for the first eleven years of his life. He gets on well with most of his peers due to his cheery nature and although he is vaguely aware that something is going on at the school not quite normal, he generally dismisses it. If it were that bad, he would have heard about it already... the only trouble is, he keeps noticing people around the school who are sad or upset. And when he tries to cheer them up, they usually shun him and hardly ever admit that there's a problem, let alone what it is. It's slightly frustrating for him, but he hasn't stopped trying yet.
