Charlie walked into the Great Hall and headed towards the Gryffindor table. She looked up at the sky and saw a blue sky scattered with grey clouds. She hoped that it wasn't going to rain, Charlie was planning to go out into the grounds later that day. Finally sitting down she reached out and grabbed some hot toast and butter. Charlie also grabbed a glass of orange juice to. She was waiting for her morning copy of the newspaper.
She began to think about how much she enjoyed being at Hogwarts. It was like a home away from home for her. She smiled and ate some more toast. She looked around the Great Hall and realised she must be early. It was practical empty. "Either I'm early or I'm really late" she muttered to herself.

Just in this time, the door opened and Mike entered the room looking on the ceiling, too. "Mhh, it´s a real nice weather for practice..." he grunted mostly to himself with sarcasm. His mood in the morning was always strongly affected by the question whether he can practise for his debute Quidditch match or not. Im moment his good mood vanished a bit, but he still hoped that this day could be a dry one.
He stopped investigating the sky and noticed that, expected from a Gryffindor student, he was completely alone. He never saw this room so empty and calm and he wondered where all the other students at? He asked the student: "uhm...I´m soory, but what time is it??"

Charlie was not really paying much attention to what was happening around her. She continued to eat the toast but did notice that still, not many students were turning up for breakfast. She turned her head towards the long table at the end of the hall where the teachers sat and found it to be half full. This is weird she thought to herself. Had she missed some notice.
As she turned back to her breakfast she saw, in the corner of her eye, another students walk into the Hall. She wasn't alone after all. She turned her head to face the the student and smiled at him before taking a sip of her orange juice. "The time? No sorry. I haven't got my watch on today. Though I wish I knew because I have never seen this Hall so empty. Have you?" She asked. As she said that she glanced around the practically empty Hall. Charlie was still unable to get over this fact. "Oh, I'm Charlie by the way"

Mike grinned after he found out that Charlie was even as confused as he was. "No, it is some kind of weird. I never saw this room so empty." Mike scanned around the room too, looking for other students. But, expected from Charlie, he was successless. At least anyone here, he thought. But it was weird. Why were no students here, while the half of the Staff Table was full? Did the holidays already began? It was the only plausible idea he had, but he was quite unsure....
"Nice to meet you, Charlie. You can call me Mike." Obviously to keep the conversation alive, he turned around to look for other students and said: "I wonder why no one wants to remove the House Tables. There´s no sense of dividing two students while braekfast, I think."

Charlie nodded her head in agreement. There did not appear to be any logical explanation. "Maybe we just woke up extremely early." she suggested to the boy. "I've been here four years and I have never seen this room like this, where the Teachers are present but students aren't" It was unnerving Charlie slightly. There will be a rational explanation she thought to herself. There always is.
"Nice to meet you Mike." Charlie replied with a smile. "Maybe there are more students in the school." In all of Charlie's school career, she had never seen the House tables removed for the students. In a way it was a shame but she knew that it would never work. The animosity between some of the Houses was not easy to get over. "You can sit here for now if you want to. It does seem stupid to sit at separate tables when there are just the two of us." she said, smiling and pointing towards the seats opposite her.

Mike was just as confused as Charlie was. Still without idea why nobody was in the Hall he said: "Could be, of course. I didn´t looked after my fellow students while i was in our dormitory. So I cannot tell you where the offcut is. Could be holidays as well..."
He looked at the seat Charlie was offering him and looked back at her and said, a bit unsure: "I dunno if it is okay when a Hufflepuff student would take seat on the Gryffindor table...." Thinking about Charlies offer a short time he added, more confident: "But rules are there to break them...." Meanwhile he sat down on his offered seat, smiled at Charlie after finishing his sentence and added: "Just kidding. But why should I set some conversations aside just because we are in different Houses. And, you already had the point" Mike grabbed five slices of white bread... "There is no sence to be divided in such a big room like this eating alone..." He put some cheese, salami and ketchup on the bread and stacked them like a sandwich. He tried to eat a bit, with big difficulties... "Mmpf, damn, a slice too much, I guess...."

Trying to think about any notices that may have been posted on the notice board in the Gryffindor Common room, Charlie was slightly distracted by the arrival of an owl with a copy of that morning's issue of the Daily Prophet. She paid the owl and watched it take off, before turning her attention back to Mike, the paper folded under her hands. Thinking again about notices, Charlie could not remember reading anything that could be a reasonable explanation. I really wish I had my watch on me today!
Charlie nodded her head in agreement. Why should what House you belong to stop conversations. Though in the case of, in particular, Gryffindors and Slytherins it was normally best that they did not talk. It was more than likely to end up in a scrap of some degree. "Exactly." she said as Mike sat down opposite her. "Seeing as there are only two of us at the moment." Charlie added with a smile. And yes rules were often 'bent' a bit by the students, that was one part of what being a teenager was about, rebelling.
Charlie was about to take another sip of her drink, hand half way towards her mouth when she stopped and looked at Mike. intrigued by what Mike was making, she watched him until he had finished. "Hmmm." Charlie said as Mike finished creating the sandwich, then laughed as he tried to eat it. "Yes, I think it is one slice too thick."
Charlie finally turned to her newspaper. She unfolded it and began to read the front page.

Mike, who didn´t want to destroy his creation, pressed his sandwich, not noticing that he squirts a small amount of ketchup on his uniform, but at least the sandwich was small enough to fit into Mikes mouth, although with loads of effort. "Mhhhpf...´t if d´lifiouf..." It was a wonder that he managed to open his mouth to speak, it was so full that he needed barely two minutes to swallow his piece of sandwich. Then he finally said: "I´m sorry. I know I shouldn´t speak with full mouth...." He ripped of another piece of his overlarge sandwich with his teeth and was busy again for two minutes.
Meanwhile he looked at the last page of the Daily Prophet. He saw a picture of, as far as he could recognize, a female Quidditch player. She was sitting on her broom stick wearing fire red Quidditch robes. The whole article was entitled with : "Harley pausing due to maternity leave" Combining with the fact, that this article was very short and on the last page Mike thought that she was not a very famous or important player in the english Quidditch League. Soon enough he found the answer in the line below the title (due to the distance he was not able to read the whole article): "team facing relegation now without seeker" Quidditch was always Mikes favourite topic since he arrived Hogwarts, but as long as he wasn´t able to read the article, he was thinking about a way to make pictures move. He was burning to capture his debute match and show it his parents. But as he thought about his first match, the fear of losing his first match returned, and he felt light panic. Calm down, there´s enough time till the match...nothing to worry about right now... Trying to forget his panic he swallowed his sandwich and asked: "Do you know how to make pictures move?? I´m wondering about moving pictures since I arrived here..."
