Paragraph Format: Kerridon Paradox was born on the 13th of February to Raziel and Jessamine Paradox, named after his great uncle, killed aged 14 with his mother in a potions accident. His middle names are both from other relatives on the Taylor side - his grandfather and great-grandfather.
When his parents divorced he and his sister were brought up by Jessamine and their grandfather, Ezekial and when they both died they were brought up by Raziel. Upon Raziel and Taisy’s deaths, he was passed onto his godmother, a halfblood witch named Nellie. His wandless magic is a trait passed through his mother’s line.
He is quite tall for his age but not overly so, and is rather average in appearance. He had short, brown hair and grey eyes, and his skin colour is normal for a person living in the UK – tanned in the summer, pale in the winter. His dress sense depends on his mood when he wakes up, but as he often stays up long into the night he will frequently wake up in a bad mood, resulting in a wardrobe mostly consisting of darker colours. He owns two items of family insignia, one of which (the Taylor ring) belonged to his sister before she was killed. He will wear both of them when he can to commemorate his deceased family.
Personality: One of Kerridon’s main traits is an inherent desire to please others, but only those he deems worthy of his respect. While it can be difficult for you to become one of those he respects, it is not impossible if you try. He values strength, ambition, bravery – so long as it’s not foolhardy – intellect and (ironically considering his past and though he will never admit it) trustworthiness.
When he was younger and still living with both Raziel and Jessamine, they let him play with some muggle boys in the village. However, this led him to gain an insight into the life of a normal family, and also made him want to please both parents; something extremely hard to do as they had very different personalities. Even now they are both dead, Kerridon still subconsciously wants to belong to a normal, happy family. Friends are also a rare commodity to him so he values them, while often driving them away with his own, rather cold personality.
Kerridon is stubborn and uptight, doing anything he thinks he has to do to achieve his goals. There are a few people he will obey without question – the Shadow Mage and his father – but others, such as Nellie, he will not even bother to hide the fact that he is disobeying their authority. The only reason he stayed in the company of Nellie when she began looking after him was because the Shadow Mage thought it best to have another spy at Hogwarts and suspicions might be raised if Kerridon appeared out of nowhere.
When they were younger, Taisy could not pronounce his name properly and so shortened it to ‘Don’. It is mark that he respects and likes you when he lets you call him this, as it reminds him painfully of his sister.
Kerridon has extreme self-control and it takes a lot to rattle his cool demeanour. He automatically assumes he is right, so a recent phase of self-doubt since his father’s disappearance and sister’s death is very troubling to him. He is adaptable and takes the initiative, but is also a perfectionist and not a very patient person. He is quietly self-confident and assertive, and considers actions more significant than words. Although both the Taylors and the Paradoxes believe in the value of pure blood, Kerridon is more interested in how useful you are in getting his task done.
He is not naturally intelligent, but has an insatiable appetite for knowledge, put in place as a child by his grandfather. If he wants to learn something he will be astonishingly determined, not stopping for general needs such as sleep and food unless he absolutely has to. From his father, he received a callous, calculating nature. He almost always has his private 'shield' up, that in effect protects him from his own emotions. He tries not to think too much about certain things in his past out of fear of what it might make him feel.
While he will do the work requested of him well and effectively, recently he has not been doing it with full enthusiasm. He can’t stop thinking about how Raziel so easily killed Taisy, who was probably the only person he had strong emotional attachments to, and what his mother and grandfather taught him when he was young. He is nervous about his mission at Hogwarts; to make friends with and gain the trust of the lightfighters. He is worried that this will make his younger self, who only wanted to please people and have a normal childhood, reappear.
Above anything else, what Kerridon needs in his life is stability. He blocks away his conscience and refuses to go against the Shadow Mage because that would mean change. And for all that he has lived through, change is bad.
History: Kerridon was born on the 13th February to two rich purebloods with very different personalities and ideas. On his father’s side, the Paradoxes are one of those families who have always secretly worked for the dark side of things, while Jessamine’s family, the Taylors, had a long-running history of being aurors, her included. Taisy was born two years after him and the two were very close, confiding in each other as they were exchanged between hands. When Raziel and Jessamine discovered the others’ allegiance, they divorced. Kerridon was four at the time. Jessamine immediately took custody of them by bundling them up and taking them to the Taylor Manor one night.
They grew up there for six years with Jessamine and her father, their grandfather, Ezekial Taylor, and went through the same rigorous training the Taylors believed resulted in their string of well-acclaimed aurors. Mostly their Jessamine left their grandfather to educate them; between them, the pair reminded her of the huge err in judgement she’d made upon marrying Raziel. Ezekial ruled with an iron fist, convinced that the strict ways of teaching always used in the Taylors’ past could still be applied today to his two grandchildren. It had made the rest of the family aurors, so why not these two? They couldn’t be allowed to follow in their father’s footsteps, after all.
This is where Kerridon first learned how to fight, speak & research in several different languages and use his wandless magic, a Taylor trait passed onto both Kerridon and Taisy. Kerridon is starting to recover vivid memories of Jessamine playing her violin during this time - she was a skilled player and regretted never teaching her own children.
Jessamine was one of the few aurors who knew that the existence of shadows wasn’t made up, and she and Ezekial went to explore an area where several seemed to be massing, leaving Kerridon and Taisy temporarily at a muggle boarding school. Unfortunately they were apparently caught off guard and never returned from their trip.
A few days after Jessamine and Ezekial disappeared, Raziel turned up at the school to take his children into his custody. He had only seen them a few times during the last six years, but enough that they knew who he was and were comfortable around him. He took them to his own home, Paradox Hall, and put what they’d learnt from their mother to what he deemed as good use – training them to work for his current master, the Shadow Mage. Similarly to their grandfahter, he didn’t believe that any of the major European Wizarding schools – Hogwarts, Beauxbatons or Durmstrang – would give them the education he wanted them to have, so trained them himself. Ezekial's harsh training methods had caused a degree of hidden resentment inside Kerridon, so being treated with a certain level of maturity sat well with him.
They were forbidden to mention their mother or grandfather, and by the time Kerridon was 12 his father was taking him on missions so he could learn what serving the Shadow Mage meant first hand. He killed another human for the first time a year later; a muggle his father had picked out. Impressed, Raziel proceeded to introduce Taisy to his world and trained Kerridon further. However, Taisy remembered her mother’s lessons of not harming an innocent unless there was no other option better than her older brother and did not take to this as well as he had, causing some conflict between the siblings.
A few months before Kerridon turned 16, he went on a mission with his father and Taisy, the aim of which was to capture and/or kill some enemies of the Shadow Mage’s. At one point Taisy had the opportunity to kill one of the main lightfighters, but chose not to take it and began to run away. Furious, Raziel sent a curse at his only daughter, accidentally killing her when it caught her in the throat. When Kerridon realised his sister had been harmed, he stopped fighting and went to help his sister. Raziel, realising he couldn’t win this battle with both his children not fighting, grabbed them and disapparated back to Paradox Hall. Upon reaching their home, it became apparent that she was dead.
A couple of weeks later, Raziel went alone on a mission, leaving the still-unrecovered Kerridon in the care of his godmother, a woman named Nellie Phillips with allegiance to neither side who had been friends with both Raziel and Jessamine. Once again, one of Kerridon’s parents failed to return. The Shadow Mage informed him his father had been killed by lightfighters, and though there was no proof that this was the case, he believed it. In fact, he had been killed by Dark Phoenix in punishment for his failure.
When he was legally proclaimed an orphan, he continued to live with Nellie, who insisted he join Hogwarts once he recovered from his “ordeal”. He continued to serve the Shadow Mage, hiding this fact from his godmother and guardian, and never completely telling her what had happened in his unconventional childhood. All she knew was that both his parents and his grandfather were missing, presumed dead, and that his younger sister had been confirmed dead.

Since Arriving: Upon arriving at Hogwarts, Kerridon soon made acquaintance with one D'rorah Philosophy, leader of the lightfighters. He made several attempts to discover more about their group, such as invading Alessandro's thoughts via legilimency in Ancient Runes, and later doing the same to both him and Keaira at the Masquerade Ball.
He was almost discovered when he was experimenting some of his research on Quin Woods, a much younger Slytherin who had been playing tricks in the library. After that he tried to be much more cautious in his actions, and not altogether failing. Another near-miss was with Alexander Archer in the forbidden forest.
When Mordred Kade called him out in Hogsmeade, Kerridon was forced to go with him back to the Shadow Realm where he stayed for several days before eventually being sentenced to torture in a plot by Dark Phoenix to get him back into school. Allowing this to go ahead, Kerridon was tortured for several hours by Gat Soldier, a fellow spy, before being allowed to escape. He went via portal to the forbidden forest and was found by Zane, and later Keaira as well. The result of this is that now he is regarded with suspicion, and it would be much easier to accidentally expose himself due to this.
Back at Hogwarts and somewhat recovered, Kerridon wasn't back to classes for long because he picked up a bout of dragon flu and was forced to spend several weeks in the hospital wing. Finally over that, he is back to school life, still working for Dark Phoenix but with various memories from his childhood beginning to return to him, along with slowly developing feelings for a fellow Ravenclaw.
It was a coincidental meeting with D'rorah that resulted in a huge change for Kerridon. Having been convinced of the logic of the lightfighters' cause, he proceeded to become a counter-spy. He sold out Paris Nowan and Tasha Thomas as other spies at Hogwarts, and protections were placed around his mind to prevent Dark Phoenix or any of her other minions from discovering his new allegiance.
Kerridon was particularly grateful when D'rorah agreed to accompany him to the Shadow Realm to rescue Mami Tien, and she was just as grateful at the report that Dylan was back in Hogwarts. However, it soon appeared that Dylan was not his normal self and Kerridon ended up taking D'rorah to Paradox Hall after she collapsed following a particularly nasty confrontation with the boy. It was there that their romantic relationship began, although it is being kept secret due to Dark Phoenix.
