Paragraph Format: Caitlin Marie Collins was born to Dave and Julianne Collins as their eldest and only female child. She, along with the rest of her family, was extremely shocked when she received the Hogwarts letter. With both her parents working for the NHS (Dave as a doctor and Julianne as a midwife), no one excepted this small, shy girl to be anything out of the ordinary. Despite his hopes, her younger brother Andrew did not receive a Hogwarts letter, although Jake is beginning to show possible signs of magical ability.
Caitlin is both short and thin; petite is probably a better word to describe her. Her hair is cut to just below her shoulders and is a very dark shade of brown, while her eyes are a very bright blue. Originally, when she first arrived back in England she was particularly tanned due to her time in India, but was obviously regarded as pale-skinned by her friends there. Now she is away from the hot sunny weather, her skin has paled a significant amount, to the point where now you would not be able to tell that she spent the majority of her childhood in southern Asia. Mostly, Caitlin will wear casual clothes that are comfortable – she’s not a great fan of wizarding robes, and is seen in muggle clothing for the most part. She’s not a great one for fashion but isn’t completely blind, and does enjoy getting dressed up occasionally for special events. She wears a bead necklace with an elephant talisman attached, given to her by her recently deceased grandmother.
Recently, her appearance has changed somewhat. She constantly seems to have bags under her eyes, so it almost looks as though she has been punched twice in the face. Her hair, although never particularly neat before, is just given a quick brush in the morning and tied up – she hardly ever lets it down anymore, because it just gets in her face. Still, because it hasn’t been cut in so long, strands do tend to fall out frequently and hang on the sides of her face. Her clothing is literally whatever she pulls out of the wardrobe first in the morning.
Personality: While in primary school, Caitlin was outgoing, fun-loving and attention-seeking, to be brutally honest. However, she did have a constant want to not get into trouble, so after constantly being told off by her teachers she eventually calmed down. Less fortunately, this led to her becoming rather shy. She does still have that adventurous streak to accept and try new things, but it is nowhere near as dominant as it used to be.
Some of Caitlin’s muggle and/or Indian friends – those who have known her most recently – have described her as being intelligent, caring and affectionate. While she may be a little shy at first, once you get to know her you can see for yourself that she is all of the above. She is also reserved and serious, and takes her studies very seriously. This is more for the reason that she understands the importance of learning, and does enjoy it for certain subjects, rather than learning for the sake of it. Despite the fact that she is extremely trustworthy herself, Caitlin does not often tell others her secrets, due to the past experience most people have had of gossip being spread about them. Another word to describe her would be naive; she always insists on thinking the best of people. She is conscientious, a pacifist, and hates prejudice of any kind, be it based on the colour of your skin or simply the house you are sorted into. Her favourite subject is Charms, while her least favourite subject is Herbology, although she does have to take this at NEWT level to become a Healer according to the St Mungo's standards and much to her annoyance.
Obviously, Caitlin is not perfect. As previously mentioned she has trust issues, and sometimes has the tendency to be a little over the top in her actions. Another word frequently used to describe her is stubborn. Recently, Caitlin has increased in confidence, allowing her to speak up more in class and put her view across, but her shyness can, and will, often arise at the most inconvenient times. She is not very good at standing up for herself against people she isn’t familiar with, although in family arguments she takes the side of whomever she thinks is right. She has very strong views of right and wrong and conversely has no problem of making these heard to those she is familiar with. One of these things she would call wrong is talking about people behind their backs. She feels uncomfortable when her friends do this and doesn’t join in. Also, in whatever circumstances, killing someone is wrong. That she is convinced of, and always has been; she firmly believes in the sanctity of life. Very little is likely to change her views on this.
Overall, Caitlin is kind, intelligent and conscientious, with a streak of stubbornness. Mostly, she keeps her emotions to herself for fear of being mocked or misunderstood, besides the fact she has trouble describing what she's feeling.
Recently her personality has taken a rather dramatic turn due to Mallan’s death and the bereavement and grief this caused. Not only is she massively confused as to why he would do such a thing, going against all her ideas about life and death, but being linked to him as she was caused the break to hurt even more than it would have anyway. She has lost interest in previous interests and schoolwork, and the lack of sleep and constant nightmares have made her irritable and decrease her concentration span. She is much less cautious than she used to be, and her relationships with pretty much everyone around her has deteriorated.
History: Caitlin was born on the 9th April to Dave and Julianne Collins. Aged 2, she supposedly broke her arm at her cousin’s birthday party and had to go to the hospital, but strangely when she arrived there seemed to be no harm done. A little while later Andrew was born on the 18th May and she had a new playmate. Mostly she got on well with him, but unsurprisingly they did have their little disagreements.
Aged 4, Caitlin started at her local primary, where her favourite subject was English, but the subject she was best at was Maths. As previously suggested, she didn’t like getting told off but this seemed to frequently happen as she attempted to be a part in her friends’ activities, even though on most occasions she didn’t actually know that what she had done was wrong. Jake was born on the 27th April, when Caitlin was 6, thus completing the Collins family.
While she got on with pretty much everyone, on some occasions she could be described as a loner, simply taking books outside to read at break and lunch, instead of playing with the other kids. She didn't really have any main friends until she was 7, when a new girl moved to the area and joined school; a girl named Victoria Haines. Both got on extremely well and Caitlin delighted in finally having found someone who would play her imaginary games of magic, although by the time they reached the end of primary their bond had lessened a great deal. Vicky began to be more interested in boys and clothes than fantasy books and the like, and they drifted apart, leaving Cait without any close friends for the rest of her time in England.
Dave and Julianne had always wanted to work in a developing country, helping its inhabitants with their medical skills. By the time Caitlin was 11, they had planned their temporary emigration to India. When Caitlin’s Hogwarts letter arrived she, after much deliberation (not to mention shock at finding out she was a witch, and that magic was actually real!), opted to go with her family to India. It was agreed that she would have a private magical tutor since there were no magic schools in India. Hogwarts continued to send her letters at the beginning of every year, in case she changed her mind. Her parents and youngest brother were thrilled at discovering Caity was part of the wizarding world, but Andrew was a little resentful at first. This resentment grew to the point were he will now make a nasty comment any time anything to do with magic is mentioned and their parents are not around.
Soon after arriving in India, Vijay Bhadrak, an Indian wizard living in Hyderabad, was hired as her tutor. She received a varied magical instruction from him, mostly concentrating on how magic can be put to helping people. The various poverty-related problems in India meant she had plenty of practice at this. She had begun to learn the languages of Hyderabad before coming and was soon fairly confident, but for the first few lessons Vijay still had to perform a translation spell in the classroom so everyone would understand everyone else.
During her time in India, Caitlin made friends with many of the children living in her area. She is still in contact with many of them via Vijay, including two muggleborn witches born near the slums, Shreya and Yamini, aged 17 and 15 respectively, whom she had magic lessons with. When she first moved to India and was still experimenting with magic, she and the other two girls would use their magical skills to play tricks on unsuspecting brothers, not to mention siblings. They were soon found out by both their parents and tutor, and forbidden to do do any more, but it was fun while it lasted.
When Caitlin’s grandmother became sick just after her 16th birthday, it was decided that the Collins family would return to England, having lived and helped in India for five years. Her grandmother died a few months after their return, but they chose to remain in the UK. Because of this, Caitlin is joining Hogwarts in her 6th year instead of 1st. It is expected that she will be ahead in certain subjects and behind in others.
The teaching style she received in India and her parents’ occupations led her to form her current ambition of becoming a Healer and returning to India once she is old enough, to continue helping.
Since arriving: Upon arriving at Hogwarts a little late after her grandmother's funeral, Caitlin soon realised there was something odd going on at this school of magic. While she met lots of new people and made a few friends, she did also miss India a great deal as well as her grandma.
One of the friends she made was Jacques Broken, a 6th year Gryffindor. Upon seeing him enter the forest she followed, hoping to persuade him to come back to the castle safely. It was there she first came across the shadows, and met Keaira and Zee, her future allies. She witnessed Keaira and Alessandro fight the creatures back with magic she had never seen nor heard of before, but accepted Kee's later explanation.
Shopping in Hogwarts one day, Caitlin witnessed Mordred Kade calling on all followers of the Mage to stand by him. She was instinctively drawn to D'rorah when she summoned elemental light, and it was later realised that Cait was the Shadow Warrior of Water.
The day this was revealed, she also found out that her Elemental Master was Gat Soldier, a spy of the Mage and against the lightfighters. Since she obviously could not bond with him, the new Elemental Master of Wind, Mallan Baine, volunteered to bond with her as well as Dee. Closely following this the pair became good friends, and romantically involved for a few weeks before Mallan left to train in China.
It was just after New Year, about five weeks after he had left, when Caitlin got a letter and small book from China. It told her that Mallan had committed suicide while there. Naturally she did not take the news well and for a while afterwards was constantly withdrawn; not sleeping properly and missing lessons. Shortly afterwards she decided to go home to her family for the weekend and let them know what she had gotten herself involved in.
Unfortunately, this information did not got down well. Her parents removed her from school and took away all connections to magic - her textbooks, wand, potions kit. She was sent to a muggle senior school nearby, the one which Andrew attended. She didn't get on well there, what with still mourning Mallan and having never been taught subjects such as French and Chemistry. Being as shy as she is anyway, as well as with the grief accompanying her constant thoughts and feeling different to the muggle students, she made near to no friends while there. Working on her parents almost every day, it was a month before they would allow her to return to Hogwarts, with certain restrictions in place.
Now she's back, Caity is determined to get on with life. She wants to train as a proper Shadow Warrior so she doesn't feel so helpless - the only training she has was on-the-moment during Dee's near corruption, from one of Keaira's memories of the chanting. One thing she is desperate to work out is why Mallan killed himself, because she has yet to come up with a logical explanation. Compared to when she started, she is much more determined, but less joyous and happy. Her innocence and general outlook on life has had a severe setback due to Mallan's death and the talk she's heard among the lightfighters.
With Gat's death, Caity soon found herself running across Kairava Jahnavi, but does not yet know him as the new Elemental Master of Water. But still stuck in her depression and obsessing over certain things, she has not yet recovered from Mallan's suicide and it is affecting her everyday judgement.
Having discovered that she is not quite as muggleborn as she thought due to a vision of the recently-deceased Alessandro Darko, Caity managed to recover a journal belonging to her great-grandmother; apparently who had also been a Shadow Warrior. With the knowledge found in the journal she was able to help Susan forgo her Shadow Warrior powers due to an accident that left her hands crushed. At the lake one day, Caitlin met Sam Kelley, the younger brother of one of the known Elemental Masters. While talking to him she felt the death of her Elemental Master, having never met him - which unbeknownst to her, sent the powers straight into the boy next to her at the time.
Slowly recovering from Mallan's death and everything that followed, Caity is beginning to focus on her schoolwork and job at Gladrag's a whole lot more, distracting herself from the grief that just won't seem to go away.
