Bryan headed down the stairs that led from the Gryffindor common room. The seventeen year old was not really bothered by the amount of steps that made up the path from Gryffindor tower to the ground floor. Granted, there were days when Bryan felt annoyed by the stairs and by the staircases tendency to move on their own. However, those days were rare and usually when the Gryffindor was functioning on less than three hours of sleep. Such days usually only tended to happen when Bryan spent the evening studying for an exam in one of his classes or something similar. Granted with his new role this term, there was certainly other things that were available to cut into his time. However, luckily nothing of that nature had happened thus far since he had joined. However, Bryan didn’t actually know if this was a good thing or bad thing. So instead, he continued to practice with his staff in the mornings in the Room of Requirement as well as growing used to the mental connection between D’rorah and him. The Ravenclaw prefect had opened their connection, releasing her barriers, since their meeting in the park a month or so ago.
The Gryffindor would like to say that he had not found the extra mental connection a burden, but it had taken a few days for him to grow comfortable with the connection to the extent he had been when the Ravenclaw had held up mental barriers. Bryan had not realized how much the Ravenclaw had blocked off her mind from him until she had removed the barriers. Bryan did not regret his asking her to hone their mental connection. He still agreed with the logic and necessity of the task. However, he knew that D’rorah had not been comfortable with opening their connection more. He knew she feared losing another Elemental Master. However, the only way Bryan could relieve those fears was to not die. There was no telling what sort of problems they would face in the coming future and still feeling on shaky ground, Bryan wanted to try and prepare himself for the inevitable. Her certainly did not want to be burden to the group by being untrained or being unprepared in areas he recognized previously they had been lacking on.
In truth, he was still such a green horn in everything that he wasn’t even sure he was doing anything right. The Gryfindor had always been more of loner in regards to thing. He wasn’t much into crowds, despite his large family that made crowd all by themselves. He wasn’t anti-social as he spoke to people. It was just that the Gryffindor tended to go off by himself to do things. Unless dragged into some sort of spell practice by Sam, Bryan usually practiced his wandwork on his own and away from other people. He wasn’t really sure why this was. He didn’t think he was fearful of failing at something before a bunch of people, but he just felt a bit more comfortable on his own. It was sort of the same idea with his sketching. When he drew he entered his own world where it didn’t seem to matter where he was. He could be in a large crowd, but when he drew he felt as if he was the only person there. It was a strange sensation to describe. Even when he had those moments of being a seer that feeling of being a lone continued. Perhaps he was just more of a solitary creature. He didn’t know.
Bryan adjusted his sketchbook under his arm. His pencil was shoved behind his left ear. His feet sounded with soft thuds on the stone stairs as he descended down towards the dungeons. The Gryffindor stopped in the kitchens for a moment to steal two apples from the kitchens that morning before he took the steps back up to ground floor. As he entered the Entrance Hall, Bryan glanced around himself, seeing a variety of students wondering the area that Saturday morning. He took a bite of his apple as he wandered towards one of the windows. He chewed as he came to halt to stare out the large window. The day was bright with the sun free of clouds. It was strange to think of a day so bright and lovely with darkness out in the world. But then that was just how the world was. Full of contradictions, just like humans.
He took another bite of his apple.
