I don't know... I was either bored or inspired today... or perhaps a combination of both. Anyway, I welcome constructive feedback and hope it isn't too painful to read.

Time rushes by like a freight train
Careless sparks fly from beneath the wheels
       pennies meant for souvenirs
    They land
       Scattered in the surrounding field
Waiting only for someone to stop and notice them
And time rushes by like a freight train
    A whistle blows
Scattering birds resting nearby in the trees
    They fly away
       Seaching for a moment's peace
And time rushes by like a freight train
A man in the desert sprints
       desperate to catch up
hoping to be taken to a better place
He climbs aboard, ready to find his next destination
And time rushes by like a freight train
He rests, allowing the scenery to pass
    knowing something better lies ahead
He waits for the next station
Convinced things will be better as soon as...
And time rushes by like a freight train
    Finally the conductor's voice calls
Over the rumbling of the wheels
       "Final destination!"
The traveler sits up, weary from waiting
    He disembarks
Only to find that while he was waiting
Time has rushed by like a freight train
    Pennies forgotten in a field
Birds flown away with the wind
    Never noticed, nearly forgotten
A traveler who never saw the right place to stop
And time rushes by like a freight train...
