Sprawled on the couch, asleep and snoring slightly, was a oung, and fairly tall girl. One might wonder why she is not in bed, or why she is not doing her homework, which is sprawled just as messily across a table. The reason why she was doing that was first, she was boarded, and homework was a waste of time when you have all day. SLeeping was not. Quin's fingure twiched, and her leg jerked. A small, furry, red, long bodied martin was resting on her skinny body, and it was sleeping, with one ear cocked and an eye half open. Transfiguration: An Essay about... But it too was half covered by other paper, the hand writing cramped, messy. As she breahed, a small lock of hair floated into the air, then floated by down to rest on her nose, then up again. Without knowing it, it is time that most people are in the common room, and she is taking up all of a couch, a table, and three chairs.

Shawn tapped her foot a few times, wondering how she was going to go about making room to do her homework. The obviously younger girl appeared quite content to sleep here, taking up enough room for five people to sit. A few other Slytherins seemed rather miffed, too. With a flourish, Shawn finally walked over to stand directly above the sleeping figure.
"WAKE UP!" She screamed, pracitcaly in Quin's ear. She wasn't trying to be rude, really. But when someone's being rude enough to take up that much public space, when they have a perfectly good bed to go to... ugh. It was just annoying. And she really needed to finish her essay for Astrology. Seeing as she'd just transfered here, she was given less time than everyone to do it. Of course, the teacher extended the amount of time, so she'd have as much as everyone else had had. But Shawn was determined to finish it and turn it in at the same time as the rest of the class.

"EEEK!" Quin shrieked, and jumped up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes, "That is quite uncalled for." She said reproachfully. Heno was flung from her previously sleeping body, and started to hiss and snarl on the floor before Quin resqued him started to calm him down. "Shush!" She whispered, before setting her green eyes on the other girl, "WHo are you anyway? The sleep police?" She said, but it wasn't unkind, more jokingly. She looked at her transfiguration essay, and groaned before kicking it to another tabel, making room.

For a minute, Shawn was going to snap back with something snarky and rude before deciding that the girl was only joking. Taking a deep breath and getting a hold on her annoyance, she sat down at the opposite side of the girl's table and put her Astrology essay in front of her. "Yeah," She smirked. "Wanna see my badge?"
See? She can be easy to get along with. When everything is going smoothly she can be quite easy to be friends with. However, every other time, she's that girl that's getting in fights and ending up getting the crap beaten out of her. "My name's Shawn. Yours?" Her eyes lingered on the small animal for a minute, and she smiled a bit. He was cute, and tiny, so she could grow to like him.

Heno, realizing that the other girl was one of the few peopl who didn't think he was some wacked out squirrel, flowed over to her and start to snuffle around, nibbling on a quill or hand for a second, or sniffing some ink. His reddish tail dipped into a pot of ink, and started to drag it over Quins homework, aiming for Shawn's essay. "He likes you." Quin observed.
Quin swung her legs over a beam on the ceiling, hanging there for the time being, grinning mischivously down at Shawn. "Hmm..Shawn the Sleep Police, very snappy," She said before answering, " 'Ames Quin. Yeah, thats Heno, he's a martin." She said matter of factly, still swinging on the beam.

Shawn eyes got a little wide when the martin started spreading ink, and she snatched her essay into her lap. Call her crazy, but she didn't plan on having a bunch of ink splotches all over it. Not after she'd spent three hours studying for it in the library. Crossing her arms over her stomach, she looked back up at Quin and laughed. A quiet one, but a laugh nonetheless.
"Heno? That mean something or do you just enjoy giving things strange names like... you know... Heno." For a minute, she thought that it meant blood, but that was hemo. Or keno. Or something like that. It deffinetly wasn't heno. Martin did she say? "And I thought those were only real in fairytales." Which- of course- made her mind start singing 'I thought love was only true in fairytales' and what-not.

Quin, legs still crossed firmly over the beam, facing turning slightly purple, yanked Heno away from demolishing the essays disaprovingly, and tossed him onto the couch, away from the papers. "Heno happens to mean.." She started to say strickly, but then laughed and said, "No, you pretty much hit the nail on the head, thats a pretty weird name..I think it means something in Italian..or polish.." She srunched her nose as if in deep thought.
Raising an eyebrow mockingly, she said to the next comment, "Wizards and Witches are susposed to be fairy tales, but you look as life like as I do." Then, realizing she had confused the other girl, she said, "Pine Martin, not a real martin, those live on pluto or something."

Okay, she couldn't help it. She burst out laughing, clutching her sides to support herself. It was just funny. And it felt good to laugh. Really, really good, actually. She couldn't remember a time when she laughed this hard. God, she didn't even know why she was laughing so hard. Maybe it was just a release. If she couldn't let her anger control her, she might as well let her happiness. It was always better to show the good and hide the bad. No matter what anyone else tells you.
"Right... well... I suppose that you can't always believe what people tell you then." She stated, referring to the life-like comment. "And you don't know that I'm real. This could be a dream. You could be a girl in a coma, who can't remember her old life." She nodded, just being silly now, but honest.

Quin, seeing the other girl laughing helplessly, start to laugh to, until both of their laughter filled the room, echoing off the walls until Quin's sides hurt. It was good to see that Shawn had a sense of humor, she had been afried that she ddn't have one, judging by the black leather neckless..
Quin, smiling wickedly, let go of the beam, and fell, crashing onto Shawn. Patting Shawn's leg comicly, she mused, "Uh, your a very squishy dream girl."

Shawn's laughter suddenly stopped mid-chuckle, and she glared at Quin, a hurt expression on her face. "Are... Are you calling me fat?" She could, though, only hold the expression for a moment before cracking up again, proving that she'd only been kidding about the 'fat' thing. It would have been rather silly had she been serious, considering that Shawn was confident, and most certainly not fat.
Wrapping her arms around her aching sides, she placed her forhead on the table and bit her lip hard, trying not to go into hysterics. Jesus, what was so funny? She didn't know, but it was enough to cause the silent girl to go into a riot.

Quin rolled off of Shawn, "Well..if..the..hee hee..haha..shue..f-f-fi-" But she colvuled in silent luaghter writhering on the ground. She was absolutly positive that laughtor was the most contagous thing in the world, for she didn't know what was so funny.
And yet, she was still sitting their, wiping tears away from his eyes, and convulsing with silent mirth. Was it normal to think it was funny that someone was laughing? Or was she just wierd? Heno was alarmed, scurrin g aorund the room on his lttle legs, sqweaking worriedly.

After a few good minutes, Shawn finally regained herself and leaned back in her chair with a rather large grin. "Laughing is a sickness without a cure." She informed Quin. "It's one of those things you just have to wait out, and hope you survive." Nodding, she spread her essay over the table, suddenly dreading doing it. See, Shawn? Give yourself a little wiggle room for some fun, and now you don't want to do any work- Oh shut up, masochistic personality of mine.
Reaching into her bag she produced three strips of chocolate biscotti. "Yummy." Sitting one in front of her, she handed another to Quin and waved one down by the floor, looking at the red martin, Heno.

Heno, smelling the chocolate, looked up, bright eyed, and flowed to the other girl. He munched it down and licked the crumbs off her fingers, rubbing agianst her like a cat.
"Thanks," Quin said greatfully, finnaly able to stop her laughter, and sitting down in a chair, her essay infront of her. Little martin shaped paw prints were scattered across it, and she nudged him with her foot. Picking up a quil, she dabbed the last of the ink from his tial, still smiling, and quoted, "Aw well, if you don't have fun in life, its not worth living. But rewards feel better after effort. "i have an idea, want to go outside by the lake, its nice out." And it ws, the sun was shining, warming the cool air.

Shawn looked down at her essay and frowned. One part of her really did want to go outside and have some fun. However, a much larger part was telling her that there was much more reason behind doing her homework than hanging out with the younger girl. Finally, she shook her head in a decline. "No thanks, maybe some other time. I've got a lot of work to do by morning."
Secretly, she felt a little guilty for turning down the girl's offer. But in the forefront, she knew that she only had enough time to live once. And she would not turn out as one of those who wished they could go back and do things right. She'd make time for friends. Eventually.

Quin shook her head, still smiling, "No, I meant we could write our essay's outside, It's nice, and you can concentrate better." She chorckled a little at the older girls slightly guilty expression, "It's nice.." She said temptingly. Heno started to purr slightly, laying in a sun-beam.
