Jason smiled. He hadn't scared her off at least. He hadn't actually ever scared anyone off, yet somehow he was always surprised when it didn't happen. He stood too, drawing his wand from the inside pocket of his robes. Another holdover from his muggle upbringing, he always felt like James Bond drawing a gun when he did this. The thought, along with Leilani's smile, made his grin expand to take in his ears.
"I'm Jason. Sorting hat dropped me into Gryffindor. Can't for the life of me figure out why."
He laughed slightly. His face had returned to it's regular color. The regular color it was when he was alone at least. Around people, red was its regular color. Looking her in the face (which to him was a bold move), he noticed her eyes flicker away to something behind him. Then it was her turn to blush. Curious, he glanced over his shoulder at D'rorah and Dylan embracing eachother, and his face instantly returned to the flushed state Lei's was in.
He turned back to her, his eyes resting at about her knees as he reverted to his stumbling rant of speech.
"Yeah, I think they know eachother. I mean I don't think it's necessary to hold on quite that . . . uhm . . . closely. You could probably just hold my wrist. Or I could hold yours. I mean we both need to practice. Well, I don't mean to say that you're revolting or anything like that. I mean, quite the opposite, but . . ."
He paused, horrifically embarrassed. Quickly he turned to the front of the class and called out, his voice cracking and also carrying well above the general din of the room.
"Professor!?! How much contact is necessary for this exercise!?!"

Shifting from one foot uncomfortably to the other, she mentally hit herself at the back of her head. Normally, Lei would never be this shy or nervous, she was a very physical person to say the least. Always greeting people with hugs and such. She made another glance at the boy who seemed to be calming himself down. “It’s nice to meet you, Jason,” she said absentmindedly, now taking her eyes off the two. Lei realized that his eyes had turned to the two as well, as he began another explanation.
Leilani couldn’t help but let out a little giggle, at how nervous he seemed. Hold his wrist? He had to be kidding. A mischievous smile appeared on her face as she saw him turn to the front of the classroom to ask the professor. Before the professor could even apply, she flung her arms around Jason with a laugh. “Do your worst.” I hope this doesn’t hurt too much.

More than a little shocked, Jason nearly forgot where he was or what he was supposed to be doing. His wand even slipped from his grip, but he caught it by the very tip of the handle before it fell. He cleared his throat, hoping to make the best of his continuing embarrassment, and again called to Professor Archer.
"Nervermind Sir. We seem to have figured it out."
He glanced at the board before turning his full attention back to Lei.
You can do this . . . probably.
Those somewhat less than confident words in his thoughts, He gripped his wand tighter and whispered.
"Defendo."
There was a small twitch, but nothing really happened. Jason cleared his throat again, looked up into Lei's laughing eyes and smiled sheepishly.
"For serious this time. Defendo!"
He spoke the words more powerfully, though he'd readied a cushioning charm in the back of his head. Taking advantage of his wordless casting, he was ready to set the cushion directly behind/beneath Lei should his revulsion jinx push her away.

His disapproving gaze lowered even further as he saw another student enter the class. Seeing her take a seat without even bothering to produce an excuse or apology, Alex frowned. Seeing her simply continue on her way and pair up with Mister Cruz, he raised an eyebrow slightly before speakig. "Miss Mejia, I would appreciate it very much if you would be on time to my class in future. Kindly explain to me why you are late," he demanded in a snippy tone. If there was one thing that got under his skin, it was tardiness.
Looking briefly to the only pair that had done anything so far, he nodded. "Well done, you two." Noticing that they both seemed to have a good hold on the jinx, he wondered briefly what they could do. Not wanting to show any preference, he decided that if he held them back for the sake of the rest of the class, they wouldn't get much out of these lessons. "If you'd just like to go over to that corner there, you may practice some fire spells that would come in handy against inferi." Flicking his wand, the words 'incendio' and 'incendia orbis' appeared on the board, underneath which were the corresponding wand movements. Giving his wand a small twirl towards the corner he'd previously indicated, a bubble-like wall appeared, cornering it off from the rest of the classroom. "That bubble ensures that any fire you create will not leave it," he explained, not particularly wishing for a rampant fire to break out.

Feeling D'rorah's hold on him slacken and disappear altogether, he turned around quickly to make sure she was alright. Seeing that she was, in fact, completely fine, his eyes swivelled in the direction of the new entrant. Ignoring most of his speech and activities, he was actually glad to hear of the removal of points for the Gryffindor and potentially Gat. Both of their houses were encroaching on Ravenclaw for house points.
Seeing yet another student arrive late, he wondered briefly how Professor Archer might handle it. He hadn't been too happy with the young Gryffindor's tardiness, so he didn't think the late girl would go unpunished, either. Knowing that he'd never seen her in the common room before, he assumed that she was also from another house and he thought that, allround, Ravenclaw House was doing rather well today.
His eyes moving back to the professor, he smiled at the extra work. Continuing to practice a spell they were obviously good at for the rest of the lesson had not been a fantastic prospect. Moving a step closer towards D'rorah, he grinned at her. "Shall we?" he asked teasingly, a smile playing at his lips. Twirling his wand absently, he looked towards the corner with an excited expression.

Leilani heard him say the words and squeezed her eyes tightly shut, waiting for something to happen. But she abruptly opened them, noticing that only a little tug at the back of her robes was shown for the incantation. She met his eyes with another smile and squeezed her eyes shut, gently this time, since it was a tug that had happened the first time.
When the words came, Leilani felt an even bigger tug before, and she was sent forcefully backwards into the floor. Luckily, the cushion was there to break her fall. Opening her eyes wide, mouth open in surprise, she realized she could’ve very well busted her head open on the floor.
“Okay now it’s your turn,” she said with a devilish grin.
Rising from the floor, Leilani heard the professor take notice to her tardiness. Realizing she had been caught, she put her hands behind her back in a frightened child motion, and a sad look on her face. "I'm sorry professor. I woke up late and no one woke me from my sleep. I know it's my fault. I promise it won't happen again." Leilani finished with a little grimace at the professor.

Jason lowered his wand, quite satisfied with both the revulsion jinx and the result of his cushioning charm. It was times like this when he laughed at himself inwardly for ever thinking he didn't belong at Hogwarts. The ecstatic sensation was heightened by Lei's grin.
It died away at Professor Archer's words. Jason turned his head to face the front of the room, a glare etched across his features. He held no one but himself accountable for the loss of Gryffindor points, but the man had crushed his moment of exultation, which came rarely enough that he was quite annoyed by it's abrupt termination. He also thought the Professor unnecessarily smug sounding as he spoke to Lei.
He glanced again over at the two Ravenclaws of whom Archer seemed to immensely approve. While he felt immature begrudging them for doing well, he found his thoughts bitter that they received such recognition while he and his partner seemed to evoke only scorn.
True they'd been late, but it was early in the year. They hadn't had a great deal of time to get their schedules down yet. His eyes turning back to the professor, Jason inched closer to his partner as she ran through her explanation, as if he could absorb some of the professors ire directed at her.

D'rorah noticed the the admonition from Professor Archer regarding the entrance of yet another late student to his class. She paid little attention to that part of the conversation, as it did not involve her. However, hearing the Professor assign them the task of working on fire spells, she smiled... well, whatever facial expression passed for a smile on her nearly emotionless face, that is. Though she had been upset to lose Professor Kade as the Defense Against Dark Arts teacher, she was thoroughly appreciating the fact that Professor Archer allowed those who demonstrated the ability to work ahead.
"We shall, Mister Cooper," she replied with an arched eyebrow. "However I would like to note that if you manage to set me afire, I shall be quite upset with you." There was a slight teasing note to her voice that most would have missed entirely, but it was certainly there. She headed over to the corner with Dylan, stepping into the bubble that had been created to protect the other students from their practice.
She flourished her wand a few times, practicing the wand movements Professor Archer had detailed on the board. When she was satisfied that they were correct, she began casting with the incantation. "Incendia orbis," she commanded clearly, watching as a small orb of fire blossomed from the end of her wand. She concentrated on it, watching it burn steadily as it hung in the air before her. At that moment, she almost envied Alessandro and Wysteria the element of fire, thinking the orb burning before her was quite captivating.

(ooc: Keaira, i hope you don't mind, but I feel like we're being left in the dust with all this practicing, so, I'm godmodding our session for a bit, it can be changed if so desired ) Alessandro and Keaira stood up and faced eachother. She smirked at him as he playfully asked her if she was ready. She gave him a playful look that said: "Lets do this." and they began. Alessandro took the liberty to go first this time, as last time she nearly knocked him into oblivion with her stupefy spell. "I'll be gentle, I promise I won't toss you across the room." He said jokingly. Keaira laughed. Sorry, although, I couldn't help but remember our incident by the Juniper when I was casting the spell... she said smiling. She gingerly brough her arms around Alessandro's torso so as to mimic attacking him as if she was an inferius. "Defendo!" He spoke, waving his wand, yet nothing happening. Oh come on...she's gonna think I'm a talentless squib, come on! He thought angrily. He tried once more. " Defendo!" It worked this time as his wand tip glowed purple and then exploded in a brilliant illuminating flash. Keaira found a strange force knocking her backwards a couple feet as he had succeeded. "Hey now..." she eyed him as she gained her balance. "Totally just the spell!" He said earnestly with a big grin. "My turn." She said arching an eyebrow at him as she readied her wand. He approached her and got behind her, wrapping his arms around her in the same fashion in which she had done with him. He grabbed onto his left wrist and began to groan. "I'm a deaaaad inferius Keaira....I want to eaaat your braaaain." He wailed as he continued to embrace her. She rolled her eyes as a smile secretly crept across her face. She cut her wand through the air in the prescribed manner and intoned the magic word. "Defendo!". Her wand let out a purple flash and Alessandro was thrust away from her as if some angry invisible boyfriend had come between them, furious with Alessandro for having 'touched his girl'. "Good show, Keaira, you got it first try!" He said feeling a little jealousy toward her. He had practiced the spell before and was slightly peeved that he wasn't able to produce the effect on the first try. He looked around the room as the other pairs had been progressing ahead of them. He watched as D'rorah summoned an orb of fire which distracted him momentarily. My orb... He sighed inwardly as he still had yet to find it. He and Keaira approached the wall and he nervously watched her cast incendio within the bubble. The flames flickered and danced beautifully. Was he able to produce fire and maintain it? He had miles to go before he had conquered his fear of fire, but he had been slowly progressing, lighting candles was now an ordinary task. He held up his wand with anxiety, and tried to steady his arm. You can do this... He commanded from within. "Incen...In... Incendia Orbis!" He commanded as he struggled to keep his wand steady. The tip glowed with a bright orangy light as he saw flames began to flicker out from it. They swirled around the tip creating a sphere of flames. "I did it!" He exclaimed. The excitement must have caused him to have a surge of energy as the fiery sphere grew larger and then burst as suddenly as he had spoken. He recoiled and shrank away thrusting his hands in front of him as the flames dissipated. "No, definitely not ready for this...not yet..." He said to himself as he gripped his chest, feeling his heartbeat.

That’s all I can say, she thought sadly waiting for the professor’s response, or maybe even his harsh scolding. Leilani felt herself blushing hard, did he really have to point her out after not noticing for that long. Letting out a long sigh, she glanced at Jason who seemed to be shooting a disapproving look. Leilani gave him a little nudge, as if to say, don’t you go getting yourself into more trouble.
“Shall we continue,” Leilani asked, more softly now that her spirits had been taken down a couple notches. She made sure that she gave off the right amount of karma to the professor so that he would be sure she would be good for the rest of time there. Then, making sure the pillow was where Jason’s head was most likely to land, she directed her attention back to Jason. “Are you ready for this one?” she asked trying to crack a little reassuring smile to show that she’d be alright.

Jason looked back at Lei when she nudged him, understanding her meaning but mostly disregarding it. He was in that zone where he saw himself as being heroic, even though this was a fairly ridiculous circumstance for such a lofty view. His delusion persisted however, and as it always did, it overpowered his shyness. He put one arm around her waist and pointedly rotated so that he was between her and the professor. He was bigger than her and hoped that "out of site, out of mind" would take effect.
"Don't worry. He'd hafta be totally unreasonable to give you a detention or anything."
He grinned mischievously, something that didn't happen often.
"You could try to aim me at him when you cast the revulsion jinx."

His arm wrapped around her, Leilani couldn’t help but look at it with a little confusion. Realizing he was comforting her eyes showed so much warmth she could feel it radiating off of her. What a sweetie, she smiled to herself. “Mmm, I hope so,” Leilani mumbled, now suspecting that a detention might be the next thing coming her way.
Leilani stifled a giggle and gave him a look half astonished and half willing and ready to do such a thing. “Shh…” she laughed, still trying to hide her giggles, “He can probably here you,” Lei whispered. She glanced around Jason’s tall figure to see if the professor’s attention was still on her. “Well shall we? Or should we bring more attention to ourselves?”

Jason glanced over his shoulder, making sure he was right between the professor and Lei. He didn't really expect he'd fly far enough to collide with the man, but it was funny thinking of it as a possibility. He turned back to Lei and joined her laughter.
"I think I've had all the attention I really want today. I'm ready. You'd probably better go ahead before I lose my nerve and just let go of you anyway."
He smiled crookedly, knowing that he was only half joking about that last thing. He braced himself.
"Bring it on."

Susan hardly noticed the two late students bursting in. She didn't even mind, really that the one from her house had lost Gryffindor five points. Susan inconspicuously looked around the classroom. She was still partner-less. Everyone seemed to have partners but her and Gat, and Susan absolutely did not want to pair up with Gat. Talking with him outside of class had been nice, by the whomping willow and the lake. Inside though, he was sporting one of those "been there, done that" attitudes. Susan didn't like to think about how Gat might have come to know so much about this part of the Dark Arts or Defence thereof.
For now, Susan returned her attention to the front board again and tried to ignore the other students getting their practice in. She pretended to be studying the animation, still practicing her wand flicks, holding back tears.

Leilani position the both of them so Jason was facing the cushion and closing her eyes, she pictured the words in her head. She had never been much of a perfectionist, but she was feeling so many things at the current time that she wanted to get all her energy out. With a swish and flick of her wand she repeated the words on the board, “Defendo.” The wand spewed a purple light at Jason, throwing him right onto the cushion.
Running to his side, looking concerned, “Are you okay,” Leilani asked, unsure if he had felt the same little tug, or felt and even larger one than she had.
